Asu'suoBi is an Igbo word which literally translates to "the language of the heart/mind/soul". Having debunked the myth that Africans never "wrote" three years ago out of my own personal curiosity when I first saw the Nsibidi scripts, I'd spend the following years creating works inspired by these symbols which hasn't really been revived as a writing system but has been a huge inspiration to artists and designers around the world including the big Black panther movie years back. On a second thought I found my self rethinking about how much we fight to reclaim our culture and history from those that "wrote" it over the years and so I began to write. Personally, it started with an introspective look at related issues, asking questions and questioning answers, reading, listening and watching anything that in someway related to my research. By so doing, I realized how much of my own I've lost when my eyes opened up to all the properties and essentials that come along with the Igbo language, how different my history would have been if my ancestors wrote our own history and not having to see several books of thick and thin volumes about my people written by someone else who does not even understand nor speak my language and not to mention the wrong spelling of "Igbo" as ibo" which changed the verbal pronunciation and is still been spelt and pronounced that way (ibo) even by my own people till date. So I began to write. I'll never completely write out the possibility of reviving the Nsibidi scripts and making them writable and readable albeit the task seeming nearly unfeasible but most importantly I want to see my people take more pride in speaking their language and not feeling inferior. To learn their language and be fluent at it and never again have to think that the language and culture should be left off for the elderly ones. I took language personally because it's in it that we find our philosophies, stories, folklores, songs, cosmology etc which loses most of it's essence in translation. And so we wrote!
