SPOILERS FOR THE BACKROOMS MOVIE
just saw it askksfiajlfisa I LOVED IT some thoughts about things I wished/thought would happen:
1. Since we saw seagulls ( I presume partly because they're near the coast and partly bc the wallpaper was beachy) I thought it would have been cool if we saw rats as well, implying that the rat(s) in the store were coming from the backrooms. This would kind of go hand in hand with Kane's latest backrooms YT series vid where it seems that something from the backrooms was able to escape into the "real world" but I can also understand why they wouldn't do that for the movie since it is maybe already happening in the YT series
2. I wish we had gotten more elaboration on the scene where the store girl (what's her name ppl I never caught it) can see Clark through the glass but Clark can't see her. I though this was really interesting but we never got elaboration on it. Unless it was supposed to be a copy/entity mimicking her voice but since none of the other copies/entities never made anything more that grunts I doubt that it was them mimicking.
3. I wish we had gotten more elaboration on Mary's backstory. did her mother(?) know about the backrooms? was she just crazy? Also was her house at something destroyed by an earthquake (again referencing the YT series) or was that just her old house being demolished for new condos? I kinda struggled to keep up with that part. (I even thought for a sec that she had kid that had been killed or kidnapped, wayyyyy off)
4. I wish when Mary met Clark in the backrooms that that Clark had been a copy. Throughout the movie all the copys/mimics that we saw were clearly a like 4th gen copy, it would have been fun if we had something more like a 1st get copy where it looked mostly human. I think this would have added a stronger psychological thriller/horror aspect HOWEVER I do kinda have a separate theory about this bc we see several times in the movie that the camera pans down to a "backrooms" that's only slightly off, then to another that's more off, than to another that's even more off. This makes me wonder if there are different "generations" of the backrooms and the movie exclusively explored like the 4th or 5th "generation"
5. (general thought dump) I appreciate that the movie didnt lean too had into classic/cliché horror tropes (though honestly it wasn't a super horror-y movie) I do think Mary twisting(?) her ankle was unnecessary, NO ONE was running fast enough, c'mon you bring a rope and no knife? you already thought something was down there!, and I found all the interactions between characters fairly believable. I love that they included green light (reference to the YT series once again) I was pleasantly surprised by how much found footage style recording they were able to do, loved async using the golden record, also I know some people were bummed about how little async was in the movie but I feel like they were in a substantial amount of the movie??? I thought the ending was fun and appropriately abstract. I desperately want more but I worry that sequel would ruin it and I'm kinda scared bc it seems like they are setting it up for a sequel. overall i really enjoyed it though and would love to hear other ppls thoughts! did Mary even ever make it out?
