Once she got over the injuries she got at Melida/Daan, Tahl had to learn how to live without her sense of vision. Yes, the Temple trained the jedi in exercises which included blindfolds to help them develope their Force connection as well as other skills. But that was not enough for her.

Soon after recovering her strength, Tahl travelled to Alpheridies on her own to study for sometime with the Luka Sene, a Miralukan Force organization. The Miraluka were humanoid sentient beings -their only difference with humans were their lack of eyes, as a result of evolving mutation. They had vestigial eye sockets, though, but they “saw” through their Force connection.

Who would guide her steps best through that path if not a Luka Sene member? Tahl spent there several months, sharpening her senses and adjusting to live without her eyes. In her time there weren’t many Miraluka jedi, but nonetheless they served the Order as teachers or administrators; Tahl sought their presence upon her return to the Temple, because if there was anyone who could fully comprehend her at that time, it was them. They would not tell her to take care. They would not harass her with unwanted and needless help, nor limit her range of movement, nor feel sorry for her and her loss. They would treat her as an equal.

Verse: staying alive after New Apsolon AU

Had Tahl survived New Apsolon (and she totally did in this verse because I say so and because I will never get over her death) she would have released Bant from her tutelage.

I’ve talked about this before, but I think Tahl’s personality suffered some changes in the aftermath of that mission, as well as her traits. But that’s another story.

Tahl knew what had fuelled her actions as a master, how that had made her padawan feel like, that they’ve been as right as they’ve been unjust. And Bant, her padawan, that girl that had been waiting at her door in the Med’s Ward until she had regained consciousness, deserved to know everything.

As soon as Tahl had the strength to, she called Bant and told her everything. Her insecurities (because at this point, she was just beyond pretending she had none of those), how impotent she felt at times, thinking she’d never be able to train a padawan properly. How she would never risk losing her in a mission for not being able to protect her; the fear that the girl wouldn’t get enough experience while being her charge.

She told her she would be off duty for sometime (because surviving New Apsolon doesn’t mean you just don’t die today, you survive with the toll of all those injuries sustained while being Balog’s prisoner) and that that situation could not delay her studies. Tahl spoke with some masters afterwards (hi, Kit) to take her place as Bant’s master so she could be trained properly. Bant refused at first (by no means she was going to leave her master) but eventually accepted the new situation. Tahl promised to keep in touch, and even offered her to stay at their current quarters all the time she needed; she wouldn’t walk away, nor she would leave her.

They grew closer after that, and even after being knighted as Kit Fisto’s padawan, Bant always spoke of Tahl as her master. Tahl never took another padawan.

“ Master Tahl, have you ever… I mean, is it true that… well, see, Obi-Wan told me… ” She trailed off once more, not entirely sure what she was trying to say or ask, even as she was fumbling through saying it. 

“Sometimes, what one thinks is not what one does,” she said carefully, sensing there was more to it than just a random academic question for the sake of knowledge. “And sometimes, the Code is bent and not broken.”

As a Master, that was something she shouldn’t have said to a Padawan, but it was something real within the Temple. But also as someone used to deal with the younger generation, a sense of uneasiness tingled inside. Was hers an answer to be delivered as an academic reply, or rather was it an advice -a guide- for a younger fellow?

THE WOES OF SUPPORT sentence starters.

the noise from inside her door is… odd. with a crease of his brow he lets himself into her room ( because at this stage in their friendship, what need have they for knocking? ). he can’t quite see what she’s bent over and what exactly is making her shout so he clears his throat. 

he does a poor job of suppressing his amused smile. 

      ❝ i haven’t a clue what you’re talking about. i am a paragon          of the jedi code, ❞ he smirks. a tsk of his tongue follows          as she divulges her poor gambling choices. 

There’s a laugh as she cancels the display, and an amused snort to his words.

“I didn’t know an hour ago, either, but...” Tahl shrugs, a final wave of her hand switching her datapad off. Clee is the one to blame for her watching the Galactic Games -and the one who’d left her alone watching it.

he shakes his still-hanging head. he hates how complicated this is. why does it have to be complicated? why can’t he love siri AND be a jedi? he could do both, he knows he could… 

he’s a dangerously close to a pout as he looks down and continues to eat. no respectable fourteen year old padawan would pout, so of course he isn’t… he’s only CLOSE.

Looming. There’s an amused snort, conveniently covered with a cough, as she resumes her meal. Obi-Wan’s master and Tahl know the perks of being taller than the average human (or close humanoid species, in her case), but there where she is addressed as an elegant figure, Qui-Gon’s broad frame is often considered frightening,
