Treverdidnât like to talk about them, but the fact that he was having nightmares wasnâtlost on Ferus and Roan. They hadnât really noticed until theyâd adopted him andhe was regularly under their roof, but from that point, the whole thing wasunmistakable.
It wentin periods. Sometimes, it was mostly fine, maybe just a couple of times amonth, but other times, like now when Ferus moved into Treverâs room because hecould hear the way Trever was twisting around in his bed all the way from thehome office, it was almost every night.
Ferushated it. It was unfair that this kid would have to go through what heâd gonethrough again, over and over like this, and he didnât know how to help him. Notin any way other than to be there, but it still didnât really feel like enough.
âHey,kid â Trev â wake upâ, he said softly a few times, touching Treverâs shoulder, nudging him awake rather than shaking him, and when Trever blinked his eyesseveral times before he focused on him and then sat up abruptly, Ferus movedhis hand back to give him the space.
Heusually needed it. This wasnât the first time now that Ferus had done this, andhe could tell it was troubling to Trever. Embarrassing. Frustrating.
It wasnâtto Ferus. He was just worried.
âDo youwant some water?â
Treverdidnât say anything, but Ferus knew him well enough by now to know that in thiscontext it meant yes, and so he left, got a glass of water, and returned.
Treverhad his knees curled up against his chest when he came back, back to the wall, and Ferus sat down next to him on the bed as he handed him the glass. Treverheld it in both hands, quiet for a long moment before he took a sip, and thenhe sighed in a way that sounded like defeat and leaned against Ferus, whowrapped an arm around him and pressed a kiss to his hair.
