My experiences in the iDKHOW fanbase
This one is long, so buckle your seat belts.
At first the fandom was inviting, everyone was nice, and it seemed like an overall happy place. But ever since March, itâs gone downhill.
I have three experiences, so Iâll dive straight in.
Back in March, I had dealt with this girl who is notorious for starting drama just for follows, likes, etc. Her followers donât see that(which is unfortunate)and she is one of the fakest people ever. She confronted me in my DMs accusing me of things, calling me âself obsessedâ, âungratefulâ, âfakeâ, etc. All of this because I âdidnât follow her backâ. I had unfollowed one of her friends, and she of course wasnât happy about that. In her words, she said that since she âhelped me get noticed by Dallon that I should follow herâ. To which Iâm thinking, âDude, Iâve seen your posts and the shit you talk about. I donât want to be following you because of that.â We talk it out, block each other, and all is well. Or so I thought.
A few days later, I woke up at one in the morning and I see that I had been tagged in a hateful confession about me. The girl had anonymously done it, twisted everything around to make me seem like this annoying piece of scum(when in reality, Iâm very nice to people), and gotten people to hate on me as well. The confession was taken down ultimately because the account asked me if I wanted it to be deleted. The girl in question is still starting shit to this day, and I really hope her followers soon see how problematic she is.
So this year, my friend and I had started a project for the band to show our love and to say thank you. It was pretty successful during the East Content Tour, but it was a semi flop during the London shows. The only one that worked was the last show. Leading up to the London shows, Breezy had found out about our project and had gotten into contact with us through our account. She posted our promo on her story, and immediately people started to follow, say that theyâd love to help out, etc. We were beyond ecstatic. However, drama surfaced too. The same girl from my previous experience started talking shit about the project, calling it dumb, stupid, âthereâs no pointâ, etc. But then turning right around and saying that she participated in the p!atd hearts(which is essentially the same thing)(Iâm not trashing this project, I love it). That drama only lasted a day, and that night I had DMed Breezy on our account thanking her for hers, Dallonâs, and Ryanâs support(she had told me firsthand that they support it)and I told her what had happened that day. She was completely sympathetic and told me to message her if there was any harassment, threats, etc.(to which there have been none yet, thank God). Cut to after the London shows and hate resurfaced again.
A different account in question started saying the same things that the other girl had been saying, and calling it a flop because it didnât work in London or Manchester. That made me realize that not everyone is going to participate/itâs not for everyone(which is fine). They did the same thing but said that it was stupid because it âdidnât have a deep meaning like the heartsâ and apparently our message of showing love was an idiotic message. I ended up dming the person explaining the message but then ended up unsending my messages because I didnât want to start drama. Two hours later, the person posted calling me a pussy in the caption.
This one is on the shorter side. A few months ago, I was on my explore page and I kept seeing posts from one account that I was very tired of seeing. I had blocked them so that the posts didnât show up anymore(this was before Instagram had the mute posts option). Cut to next month, and the account messages me on a different account saying theyâd like to follow me but they canât because I have them blocked. I immediately freak out and start apologizing profusely. They have a large following and when I remembered that, my anxiety kicked in saying that shit was going to start, they would post hate about me, etc. They forgave me, but I still had that anxious feeling. They ended up unfollowing me the next month, and now things have gone around about them in the fan base. To be honest, I had always had a weird/bad feeling about them and now the tea going around about them confirmed my beliefs. My friends have had the same feelings as well, and they told me that they had been tired of seeing the account as well, but they were too afraid to come forward and say something due to the fear of backlash.
Before I end, Iâd like to add that at some point, I felt unsafe to go to future shows because of the people I had dealt with. I was scared that if they saw me, theyâd talk shit, try to start something, or talk shit on social media after the show. My main fear came from the bigger accounts that I had conflict with. Itâs sad that people like that can make it to the point that you feel unsafe to attend shows/have fun now. After talking with friends and having venting sessions with them, Iâve now realized that I should still take the opportunity to see the band if I have it. Fans canât exactly âbanâ you from going to shows, and theyâre the ones who are going to look bad if they try to start shit face to face. So to anybody whoâs feeling that way at the moment, that is my advice to you. Your fear will soon subside, trust me. Yes it may take time, but it will. Take it from a person who experienced that fear.
Thank you so much for reading my experiences.
