Scrambled Pages - Overview
Synopsis: Once upon a time, there was a Storyteller. He made a powerful artefact called "The Book of Deltarune". Whatever is written on it, will happen. One day, someone tried to mess with it by rewriting past events, causing the timeline to reset. The pages scrambled and now the story lays undecided. Can the Heroes save the World while their victory isn't guaranteed?
Synopsis: When an unexpected event causes Tenna to lose his status as "Lord of Screens", lives of many Darkners changes forever. With two particular finally getting a chance to be together. But what happens when a new member of their family is at risk of being harmed?
Synopsis: Spamton makes a deal with the Benefactor for Tenna to go to Cyber City. He's granted said wish by having Tenna's consciousness binded to pirated Television videos. He soon learns to regret it as the Benefactor double-crosses him and forces them to suffer together. Meanwhile, a discarded body waits for a host that will finally help it fulfil its purpose. HI I am absolutely obsessed with your deltarune/TMA AU, specifically tenna as the corruption, I've thought about it before and it just fits so well. I also love all the dark stuff since it's quite an overlooked aspect of TMA.
I'd love to hear more about it, so I have some questions (I apologise if these have already been stated somewhere and I missed them)
- how does the corruption manifest physically for tenna? I assume maybe something with ants (haha)?
- have you any plans to incorporate the new friend lore in, maybe in relation to the hunt?
- I assume Gaster is the Jonah Magnus of this universe, what entity does he serve? I would imagine maybe the web considering his affinity with strings and control, but I can see others like the dark etc.!
- I know you've said Spamton hates the entities, but like Gertrude and the desolation would he sort of have tendencies towards any?
- Have you considered Noelles game breaking stuff through the lens of the spiral? Lots of like weird things that shouldn't be there and unreality and stuff like that. Uncertainty around what you're seeing and whether or not it's real. The rumours and having them Actually manifest. I personally think this could be interesting!!
- I love everything about ralsei's place in the story, it's a really good incorporation of the dark. Will Ralsei being trans factor into this at all given the latest chapter?

how does the corruption manifest physically for tenna? I assume maybe something with ants (haha)?
At one point, I considered the ants but I decided to make it more subtle instead because I wanted to focus more on what Tenna is actually afraid of (and also because there's already a fanfic with that concept and I didn't want to repeat it). As for what actually The Corruption manifests for Tenna, it's rot and decay as one of Tenna's fears is growing obsolete. His body rotted alive to the point of his neck being unable to hold his head anymore, it fell off and that's how he became the Avatar. The ant imagery is still present with the TV Artefact having realistic antennae for antennas.

I hadn't incorporated any FRIEND lore in this AU because it was too vague at the time but with the new lore added I just might! And you are right, FRIEND is perfect in relation to The Hunt so that's most likely the role they're going to get in this AU.

You are correct! Gaster is the stand-in for Jonah Magnus. I still think he'd serve The Eye because he's a scientist and Deltarune is treated as an experiment. The point of experiments is to observe them and learn all about them, like what The Eye wants. That doesn't mean there aren't other fears involved with Gaster, they do tend to overlap like colors.
I know you've said Spamton hates the entities, but like Gertrude and the desolation would he sort of have tendencies towards any?
The thing about Spamton is that it was hard to pinpoint a specific fear for him because he radiates so many of them but I realised I was thinking too narrowly and that this thinking was literally a plotpoint in TMA. So I thought outside of the box and thought if Spamton's deal is trying to gain freedom from the Horrors then it would make sense for him to try and escape The Entities in this AU. Back to your question, I think he'd be most fond of The Vast because it's associated with things big.

Since Noelle takes the place of Jonathan Sims, she's going to be marked by every single fear but I am not planning on repeating the events of TMA one-to-one, that'd be a bit boring. The way I decided to go about it is that she'll experience each fear on a very personal level, in which she almost falls victim to each fear but gets out at the last second (almost like something planned this). Like in her backstory where she almost got herself and Beverly lost to The Dark but was able to break out before Beverly died. So yeah, The Spiral is one of the fears she will almost fall victim to.

Yes! In fact, Ralsei's development in this chapter gives me so many ideas for Rey. As of currently, I am writing Rey as a trans girl and will be referring to her using she/her pronouns but I might change my mind and include other parts of the transfem spectrum, like genderfluid. This is just to give me a basic idea of what I want for her character, as I am too early in the writing process to flesh her out. This is what I came up with so far:
Rey had strict religious parents that told her to follow household rules if she wanted to “stay in the light”. So she followed them without much of a question, being scared of going too far from "the light". One eventful birthday, her cousin pranked her with a princess dress for a gift because according to them: Rey acted too feminine for a “boy”. Everyone laughed at that which made Rey so upset, she ran away towards the Lake to cry. The words of her cousin kept repeating: “you'd look so great in it!”. They were meant to mock her and yet these words made her feel something she couldn't describe. The Lake, it always felt like a blackened mirror and an idea popped into her head to put on the dress so she could look at her reflection. Unbeknown to her, the Lake was related to The Dark and when she fed her subconscious fears to the depths, The Dark marked her. The rest of what happens I already mentioned in the post about Susie.
I will not be explaining my problems that were brought by my previous post. I don't want to get into arguments with anyone because I will be in a lot of pain but for fuck sake! Block the fucking Spamtenna tag if you don't like the ship! Don't come to my blog to insulting my hyperfixations! This is simple etiquette.

Ummm, warning for graphic description of going through unpleasant experience of body and mind??? I don't know how else to describe it because I don't know what is going on even...
You see, I have been advocating for Pipis Daughter being intersex and even attempting to write my own Pipis Daughter being intersex-coded but I stumbled upon a roadblock. If you are curious as to what's the problem, click "keep reading". I have to warn you though, the description is graphic.
I've been trying to research intersex experience so I can make my Pipis Daughter more accurate to an intersex experience or at least alluding to but whenever I try to do my research: my heart starts beating faster, my entire body starts to shake, my mind keeps spiraling and why is my chest hurting? Why is difficult to breath? Suddenly, I get weird sensetions all around my body. I want it to stop, why can't it stop? I them need to focus on my thoughts because otherwise something graphic will appear that I don't want my mind to conjure it. It all just feels so overdramatic, like why is my body putting me through pain just trying to do simple research?! How am I supposed to research intersex experience without this happening? Maybe I am overreacting? Should I just brute-force myself?
If anyone can help me try and research intersex experience, so I can more accurately write my Pipis Daughter, without this happening that'd be appreciated because I don't want to be feeling like this.
More Nightmares of the New Worlds Tenna content! The thing about this version of Tenna is that he's still a terrible boss, just in a different way. This version of Tenna puts others into roles for his perfect little world and won't let you go past these roles. This is a life he chose for you and don't you dare think you can do something else. So while his employees are technically treated "better" as they get their designated breaks, freedom to do what they want (if it follows their assigned role) and get proper healthcare, they're all trapped in a golden cage. They can't pursue different passions, they can't try different works. And if you are unhappy with your role? Why would you, silly? You have everything you ever want, you are just ungrateful.
This Tenna can give you everything you ever wanted but you must follow the role he has planned for you. Your entire identity is dictated by him but you will be happy. He will make you happy. Despite what they've been through, his employees can tell... that Tenna is also stuck in this golden cage.
(This also makes me think of the horror OG Spamton can get into with this Tenna. Tenna would assign him a role of his husband, the greatest role he could give someone. Spamton would get what he wants and yet all of it would feel so wrong because Spamton is once again on strings. He's not choosing for himself.)
Toby Fox is getting so frustrated with the Fandom's inability to pick up on queer themes that in Chapter 5 he had Tenna look at the camera and say "Btw Noelle is a lesbian". At this point Chapter 6 is going to have a section where we pick Ralsei's new name, Tenna's going to start his new show "I only love masc asses, no other gender", Pink will have a wedding with herself, Queen will talk about Kris' "Am I non-binary?" quiz and Swatch will sell Spamton's old trans merch (joking).
They knew she was sapphic, not a lesbian. It's an argument used to justify shipping gay/lesbian characters who aren't shown interest in the opposite gender (or just other genders in general). I am not here to argue if shipping characters who are portrayed as showing interest only in the same gender is okay or not but the game was clearly implying she liked girls only yet was shipped with other non-girl characters. Then Chapter 5 came along and shut down the "we don't know if she's lesbian, she could be just sapphic" argument by having Tenna say to Susie, a girl who has a crush on her and is doubting if Noelle would even like her, "oh yeah, her favorite characters were all the girls, wink wink".

I'm surprised nobody is mentioning the disability angle when it comes to Tenna for their propaganda. Like come on everyone, it's disability pride month! He's a neurodivergent man who is suffering from some form of a disorder. He masks heavily, he stims constantly, he has a mental breakdown live on stage. He canonically goes through therapy (a bad one but still), the shock therapy reads as a metaphor for SH, he needs to be tugged to bed because he has trouble sleeping.
And that's all not even mentioning physical disabilities. He has burn-in, he had his arms reattached, his Light Form is damaged. I wouldn't be surprised if he was hiding awful chronic pains at this point.
But yeah, he's canonically disabled and has been a source of comfort for many other disabled people. Especially people with bpd, they love this man!

Sometimes you can like a ship but still enjoy the canon story presented to you. There are many ships I love but don't mind being non-canon or there are ships I love but don't want to be canon because it would ruin an aspect of the story.
That being said, I didn't fall in love with Spamtenna because of shipping, I fell in love with it because it was CANON. I fell in love with it because it made me appreciate the characters, the story, the themes, all of it. Spamtenna was what truly made me appreciate Deltarune as a whole and I did like Deltarune even before Chapter 3. Just, when I realised that the twos’ stories are about a world that punished them because they were in love, when I realised that the voice in the beginning actually means something and isn't a simple subversion, I got it. All the characters, it made me appreciate them more. Spamtenna is what made me love Deltarune because Spamtenna forces you to look into the subtext of Deltarune, not just the text. You can't love Spamtenna if you can't love the subtext of Deltarune. But this is also the problem with Spamtenna, if people can't get into the subtext than they won't understand Spamtenna. Maybe that's why it is so hard for people to view them as nothing more than a joke, afterthought or people obsessing with men again. It's why the Fandom doesn't consider Spamtenna canon, because the story they enjoy is the text and not the subtext. And like, that's not a wrong way of enjoying a media but it can be frustrating when people who do enjoy the subtext are treated as just "making shit up".
This is why I don't want to be called a shipper because loving Spamtenna wasn't shipping for me, it was an introduction to the true story I would never get to experience otherwise.
Still trying to develop this AU but here's some ideas for the Shadow Bosses. Since the Shadow Crystals are lost nightmares, each Shadow boss was affected by it that caused Dark Worlds to turn from dreams into nightmares. They were patients zero of sorts and I really want to dwell into their stories as well as how they differ from their OG counterparts. This will change once I come up with a better theme for the Shadow Bosses but here's prototype version of Spamton's backstory. Warning this one has some pretty dark themes:
First change is when he gets the phone call, for this AU I decided to have Spamton meet Tenna before the encounter with the Benefactor as this will let Spamton realise sooner that what he wants is to have a life like that of a Lightner which greatly affects his deal. At one point, Spamton goes to Cyber City after an argument with Tenna and during his stay he gets invited by Queen to her mansion. Both characters have a chat, a question gets brought up and Queen receives an answer that would change her forever. This is also where Spamton discovers the NEO body and finds the Shadow Crystal.
The reason for the deal being broken also changes because when the Benefactor gives him the life like that of a Lightner, Spamton rejects it because this isn't what he meant. He stands against the Benefactor, he stands against the rules of this world and so he gets punished. He becomes homeless just like in the canon but the Shadow Crystal depleting his sanity causes him to go to places he never would have otherwise. The stress of being hunted down, of everyone turning on him, of being treated so violently and in such poor conditions makes him lose it. After countless other attempts of getting into the mansion, it inevitably leads to Spamton murdering a Swatchling and finally finding his way towards the basement. Yet despite how the Swatchlings treated him and what he did could be seen as self-defense, that's not what others saw. So Spamton got locked in the Basement with no necessities for him to survive. He barely makes it out of there alive thanks to the Fun Gang.

When it comes to characterising Nightmares of the New Worlds Tenna, I make points on what the character symbolises. What is their purpose in the story? What do they reflect in the Light World? What else could they reflect differently?
What are the nightmares associated with Television? If Tenna is a reflection of Kris' dreams of the past they can never return to, would Tenna who reflects the nightmares be fears of the past? While we are nostalgic of the past, we can also be scared of the past. Of returning to positions we never want to look back on. And Kris, as a non-binary kid, could they fear the past in which they did not come out? Their fears that if they were more obedient, that would never happen? Things would be a lot simpler and yet why do they hate that possibility?
Nightmares of the New Worlds Tenna represents fears of hiding one's identity, fears of what others want from you vs what you want for yourself, the dread of accepting the rules you know are not good for anyone but having to follow them because you are afraid of what happens if you don't. After all Kris, things will all be okay if you follow what the phone says just like your little buddy Tenna over here 🙂.
I honestly think Nightmares of the New Worlds Tenna would give OG Spamton so much dread and discomfort. I need to polish some stuff but somehow this man has even more problems than OG Tenna, part of it is that he refuses to accept the fact he is a man due to someone's... involvement...
