I was thrilled to see a bee-mimicking robber fly alive for the first time recently! This guy was a big ol grizzly bear of a fly, fierce and bulky and about the size of a carpenter bee.

This stubby little assassin bug hunts millipedes. You would think such an insect would be found, like, somewhere near millipede habitat, but this one was flitting along a stretch of sidewalk.
