The Chancellor House, Parkersburg, West Virginia. This stunning 1878 second empire brick and stone Victorian mansion still stands today on Juliana Street in Parkersburg. It took me 2 months to paint this, after visiting the home about 3 years ago. I remember my first time seeing Parkersburg, and suddenly driving up a steep hill with my friend Sarah. I didn’t know where we were going but I knew she was taking me somewhere cool, because that’s what she always does. As we reached the crest of the hill, we were greeted by an ornate wrought iron and brick arch that read “Julia-Ann Square Historic District” and this mansion was towering over everything beyond it. It took my breath away. I was overwhelmed by its size and immaculate detail. I think this is both the hardest house I’ve attempted and the hardest I’ve pushed myself to portray every architectural detail I possibly could in a single painting. I did not plan on the Chancellor House being finished on America’s 250th birthday but it seems appropriate. 🇺🇸 🎆
