Sigyn shook her head.  ”It is fine.  You could not have known.”  So she wouldn’t mention that again?  Maybe she was in the clear.  She slipped her hands into her pockets and added, “Goodness knows my relationship is nowhere near perfect.  But I think we could still make it so.  At the very least, we have a better chance than when we were first wed.”

"I know but- still I know this is kind of intrusive. Thanks for opening up to me." Skye said, genuinely. When she had considered herself a ‘normal’ person, she would’ve freaked out, and kept secrets, and just plain lie. And yes, maybe she was lying about her origins, but that was just to protect herself. "You never really know what you’re getting into with a couple."

"No, intrusive was breaking into my apartment when you could have knocked on the door."  She chuckled.  "That was asking a question.  There is a difference."  She glanced around at the area.  "So is this shop you mentioned a long walk from here?"

She nodded.  ”Yes.  As I said, it is complicated.”  ’Complicated’ really was the best word to use for it—it was hard to adequately capture all the feelings associated with a husband who she’d thought dead only for him to return slightly mad.  And that was just the beginning of it.  ”I would prefer if we did not discuss this further.”

Skye lowered her gaze. “I’m sorry-I-I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.” She said, walking along. “I really don’t think there’s a perfect couple or family. Never seen one.” She said now, shrugging. Growing up the system, they all seemed like ‘good families’. But having grown up without one, you noticed all the imperfections on them, all the lies, all the details that would eventually break the glass.

Sigyn’s face darkened when she heard the next question.  She knew this was coming, or she should have known.  She was tempted to lie, to say that there hadn’t been anyone, but she didn’t think she could make that convincing enough.  Instead, she tried to keep with her strategy of half-truth.  ”I am… it is complicated.  Legally, I am married, but my husband and I are spending time apart.”  She could only hope that Skye would not pry any further.

"Oh- I’m sorry." Skye immediately said- the sudden darkness in her tone was evident, and it was also visible in her face. "And well- I hope it’s not too much, but, do you plan on keep being legally married?" She said. I mean, when people take ‘time’, it means something’s not well. She had seen it before in other foster homes. She had experienced it herself with Miles.
