For a moment she simply looks at the boy, who could be around Edmund’s age if she were to guess - give or take a year, maybe. He’s got a kind face, something about his eyes, the way he holds himself maybe. It speaks of an inherent good that Lucy has grown to recognize and seek out in those she meets. It’s easier to spot the good than it is the bad. Kind people wear their hearts on their sleeves - cruel ones hide behind smiles and hugs first.
He’s got a solid grip on her, and she can’t help but accept it without complaint, leaning into his warmth a little bit, because she’s cold and scared and she can. She’s not got a sword, nor does she have a knife, and if this boy intends to lead her to her death, then there’s not much she can do about it either way. She’d rather go in comfort than dragged through the forest by her wrists.
❝You’re very kind. But isn’t it late? Won’t someone be wondering where you are?❞ She wonders if Peter is worried about her, if Susan has sent out a party looking, if Edmund is suggesting perpetrators. She wouldn’t doubt it - her siblings act quickly. It’s not as though she can tell them where she is though, or how she got here. The only thing she can still hope is that Aslan will tell them what happened. If anyone knows, it must be him. ❝But I would like that…if you could.❞
“Well, my parents are expecting me, but they knew that I was going out. I didn’t mean to be gone for so long, but it isn’t the first time that I have been out longer than I expected to be.” d’Artagnan hovers a little closer, still worried that her legs might give out on her. She certainly isn’t dressed for the weather -- is barely dressed for France, honestly, perhaps her family is traveling and she lost them then.
Either way, he’s hesitant to leave her on her own --- for one, his mother would never forgive him, and he can’t in good conscience leave her in the forest. “Yes, of course. You can take my hand if you need to. Just... try and stay quiet, I’m not sure if the bandits will be circling back.” He smiles at her, taking a few steps towards town. “Do you like dogs? We have one at the house.”
