Ok so now letโs talk about this movie.
I just wasnโt into the rap battles so I skipped them since they became a bit repetitive. BUT I actually really liked the movie and itโs quite realistic. Itโs not new at all (from 2019) but I just watched it and the cinematography is lowkey peak. The acting done by genuinely every single person is really great too. Donโt come for me but Alia did greatโฆ I actually felt really sad seeing her situation๐ญ. I also think Ranveer was perfect for this role because he carried himself in a wayโฆ things that are usually a bit corny or awkward just seemed cool and normal because of him and his energy. Ofc Ranveer always looks really good but can we talk about his hair?! At the end of the edit, he genuinely looks like Flynn Rider especially with that shirt. Heโs just so good looking (heโs why I started watching the movie).๐ซฐ
Ok now I REALLY want to rant about their toxic relationship. These are all just my opinions btw. I also want to know your thoughts and feelings. There will be spoilers below! โ ๏ธ
Ik Safeena is lowkey crazy and took things too far but I canโt get over the fact that Murad isnโt portrayed as even somewhat toxic. Maybe Iโm overthinking it but she was shown as a villain while no one really addressed his actions. He literally cheated and then lied to her about where he was and refused to admit his mistake when she asked. She always took the first steps. And she called him after hurting Sky. I donโt think he wouldโve talked to her if she hadnโt stepped forward. He only admitted to cheating and apologized to her when she was about to get married to another guy. I just donโt see how that counts as a happy ending.
She literally supported him so much and gave him her iPad and time. Ik that sounds a bit stupid but the iPad is a big deal to me. She lied to her parents multiple times for him. And he isnโt shown giving her anything (I wouldโve let something small slide too). I always just saw her yearning and it felt like he didnโt love her nearly as much as she did. Whatโs even worse is she had so much going for her. She was pretty, confident, hardworking, and intelligent. I was so happy seeing her start focusing on her academics. And then she got that one marriage matchโฆ
I genuinely thought she would go through with it. Not because she moved on but because she wanted to make Murad jealous. I was supporting her for one second because I wanted him to hear about this marriage from his friend and grovel so badddd. And then she opened her mouth. WHY?! Itโs so sad how desperate she was. She directly brought him up. I thought she was going to be indirect and make him jealous. But nooo.๐ซจ
Ok I was actually surprised at Muradโs reaction when his friend relayed Safeenaโs threat. Whatโs sad is thatโs the bare minimum and it was such a mild reaction. I was surprised to see him even briefly stick up for their love. What made me the most upset was when they โpatched upโโฆ She kissed him before even sorting anything out. And she didnโt even flinch to the fact that he made out with Sky. Previously, she made a big deal whenever he avoided her questions and even injured Sky. Thatโs why I thought she would be quite upset. She proceeds to joke about how she has a free cheating card now ๐คฆโโ๏ธ. I had hope but ig thatโs my fault.
I appreciate Sky somewhat tbh. Ok ik Sky isnโt really a girlโs girl but she tried to explain things to Safeena (something I wish Murad had done). She also backed off when he said Safeena was his childhood or smth like that. Then why did u cheat? I know Sky also messed up because she knew he was committed. But I appreciate that she backed off from him, for the good of both him and herself. I like to think that she has some self respect and thatโs why she backed offโฆ.. AND I appreciate Moeen? I think thatโs his name. He told Murad to stop being a coward and tell Safeena the truth. He was lowkey a chill guyโฆ not as selfish as I thought at all.
Lastly whyyyyy do I feel like Safeena wouldโve been great with the marriage alliance guy (Muradโs friend). Remember he unknowingly complimented her looks when she teased him. They seem to have a comfortable friendship and it doesnโt look like he thinks of her as Muradโs gf but more as his own friend. The night she hit Sky Safeena was just sitting there bored and he saw and asked her what excuse she told her parents. Plus during the finale rap battle, she entered and went to go stand with Muradโs friend group. And then she was smiling and gave him something like a hand grab plus high five really comfortably. They both didnโt seem like they had any weird feelings or grudge and it didnโt look like she threatened him days before. Plus, their dynamic was nice to watch, in my opinion. He got flustered after she said โyou think Iโm hot?โ๐. And I can see why u would argue that theyโre more like friends or maybe even best friends but I would have preferred their marriage (friends to lovers is great) over Murad and her as a couple.
Ok ik Iโve lowkey been grilling Murad a bit too much. Everything Iโve said obviously doesnโt justify Safeenaโs actions. But I think theyโre equally toxic. Sheโs more physically toxic while heโs emotionally. The worstttt part is I thought they were so cute in the first half. Their eye contact itself was so romantic. I think they were more natural together here instead of how they were as Rocky and Rani. Even so, the cheating ruined everything for me. I thought he would stop at one kiss but he took a second and then started to full on makeout with Sky. ๐ญ๐ญ
Side Note: If you couldnโt tell by now, I get upset when one side loves or yearns a lot and the other side barely even cares. Thats why I donโt like certain, not all, kdramas or cdramas just ones where โhe fell and fell harderโ because it shows their continuous efforts in a relationship and the fl is just like yea sure wtv.
But I still really liked this movie overall. This also isnโt really a negative aspect. I mean it was still interesting seeing how the relationship played out. Iโm glad it wasnโt an unrealistic fairytale but I just had an insane urge to rant about this and discuss it with u guys! So, tell me what u agree with or disagree with.

i don't base these off nothing, obviously, all these come about from a lot of the subtext in the writing and fun discussions with fellow-minded queer suriya fans who like prodding into his filmography. chandru in friends is possibly one of the messiest, jealous bi polycule reads on film, he was totally insane in that with how irritated he got whenever aravind flirts with anyone. gautham from mp reads super ace and gay with the constant exposition from text itself saying he's just not interested in women, and it's almost a film about gaslighting yourself into settling for a heteronormative life just cos you think someone else is in love with you. raju in anjaan, another fun bi polycule that is also supported from the text itself during that eyebrow-raising roadside scene where the 3 of them sit down, and samantha's char openly tells them to get a room with a gay joke, which they don't deny or brush off at all. and finally, of course, athreya and mithran in 24 are clearly nuts since his ''henchman'' has no reason to be doing all that for years staying by his side through a decades-long coma, with even suriya himself in interviews pre-release saying they were like a married couple and were soulmates (literal: he said this), so i think that he definitely played into an almost romantic angle with them
and this is not including some others i've seen talked about, such as sakthi in pithamagan (he tattoos chittan's name over his heart!!), or another i feel has queer undertones, too, in rakta charitra 2, where the dude opposite him falls for suriya's char way too fast even though he has no other motive on his part, and is ready to give up his life for him.

Ram nodded. He stood up, looking over his shoulder at you. You gave him a brief smile, waving your hand.
Ram looked at his friend who was walking out of the door, before turning back to you.
"Uhm... Are you free tomorrow? If so, could you meet me near the huge clock tower?"
He asked, raising his eyebrows hopefully.
You blinked, thinking about it.
"It's totally fine if you-"
"I'll be there by 10 AM sharp."
At your response, he let out a short chuckle, and smiled at you. You tried not to smile, but he was too cute.
He walked toward the door, turning over his shoulder briefly to glance at you.
"It's not a date-"
"It's a date!"
You rolled your eyes, fixing your makeup while Archana kept blabbering on about how happy she is for you.
You looked at yourself once more in the mirror. Pastel pink blouse with puff sleeves and a baby blue saree with your hair open in waves. Something was missing.
Ah.
You put a bindi on, smiling at yourself in the mirror. Men who visited you always asked you not to put a bindi on. You had to listen to them.
How else would you survive in this pathetic world?
Ram tapped his foot impatiently, glancing at the giant clock with every passing minute. He looked around, and that's when his gaze fell upon you.
You walked over to him, a soft smile tugging at your lips. It was as though he was staring at the most beautiful woman in the universe. He felt as if the air was knocked out of his lungs.
You raised your eyebrows, and he shrugged, shaking his head with a laugh.
"So, why'd you ask me to meet you here?"
You asked, tilting your head to the side.
He cleared his throat. "I have nothing to lose so I will be very frank. I'm interested in you, and I don't care that you are a prostitute. There would be a reason why you chose this path, and maybe you had no choice. I don't care. You are such an interesting person and it hurts to see that these pathetic men that visit you don't even explore that side of you."
He paused, catching his breath before continuing, "If your answer is a no, you can walk away. If it's a yes, walk with me and we'll spend the day together. I want to know more about you and your interests. I have nobody in this world, and I want you to be my somebody."
He stopped talking, gulping nervously. You stared at him in utter shock.
Nobody ever talked to you like that. No man ever has.
You smiled, before patting his shoulder. "Lead the way."
A huge smile appeared on his face, and he began walking toward a chai shop.
"And then she put too much powder and Archana came out looking like a ghost!" You exclaimed, laughing, almost doubling over before Ram caught you.
The two of you just spent the day together, and it was the best day of your life. He walked with you until you reached your brothel.
You were about to go inside, but you turned around and strutted to him, gathering your courage before planting a soft kiss on his cheek.
You pulled back, hoping that he wouldn't be disgusted. Instead, he was smiling ear to ear, red as a tomato.
"Thank you, Ram."
You walked in, closing the door behind you.
Ram began dancing in excitement, before touching his cheek tenderly.
"Yashu! Where are yo-" You paused, taking in the sight before you.
Ram was asleep, along with your three year old daughter Yashna. You just woke up, getting ready to go to your dance school that you had opened recently, and you had a dream.
It was a lovely dream, because everything that had happened was real. You thought about how Ram saved his two months' salary and helped you out of the brothel, and how the two of you got married.
