I managed to accidentally broke this lamp, luckily it wasn’t expensive or irreplaceable, and I decided to mend it and attempt to make it beautiful. Inspired by the colours and textures of the local landscape

I attended a conversational Welsh lesson today, my first Welsh lesson for many years, and I enjoyed it very much.The lesson was for advanced learners, which I am not, so I mostly observed; I understood more than I had expected too, and appreciated being back in the classroom. I have been attempting to re-familiarise and teach myself Welsh using an app on my phone for the past few months. Experiencing real life conversations/interactions in Welsh has been very insightful and important. I’m interested in the process of acquiring, translating and expressing language. Considering how language and landscape inform/influence personal identity is a central theme of my project. I have been checking out local Welsh courses and think I might make it my New Years resolution to sign up.

Making. (Week 1) I have been creating sculpture inspired by letters and influenced by landscape. I have enjoyed experimenting with materials and working responsively, I am keen to work with construction materials which are tactile and evocative. I plan to create an entire alphabet (English and Welsh!)
