Hey! Thanks so much for organizing this project, I'm really excited for a print media Homestuck project! I'm wondering what scope you have in mind for the final product ie how many pages and book size! :)
Hi, thank you for the kind words!
We're anticipating the final book to be between 80-90 pages. Once we reach final submissions, we'll have a more confident number as fics may take up different amounts of pages depending on word length and spot arts!
As for the book size, it will be A5!

Will there be a free way to see the zine? If not, what's the price range?
The zine will only be available to buyers. It wouldn't be fair to those who purchased it if there was a way to see the final product without paying!
We're expecting the digital PDF copy of the zine to be $12-15 USD. Prices will be finalized as we approach closer to preorders.
However, after the project has closed (when we make the donation), contributors are free to share their zine pieces online if they so choose.

Question, how do the pitches work?
Pitches are the ideas you'd like to create for the zine!
For page artists, writers, and merch artists, we'll be asking you for three different concepts, due a week after acceptance emails have been sent. The mod team will select one, or multiple depending on your availability if you're a merch artist.
Once the selected pitch has been picked, you're free to begin working on your piece!
For our contributor applications, pitches are NOT required. We only added an optional spot for them to see what people have in mind!
To clarify further, the 3 examples you provide for your application will be pre-existing work unrelated to the project. You only need to worry about pitches if you have been accepted into the project!

Are we able to draw more than one Beta kid for our piece?
Yes! The point of the application asking for your most preferred kid is that each character is represented in the zine as equally as possible. However, you're still allowed and even encouraged to include the other kids!
For example, if you were assigned Jade, then your ideas for your piece would focus on her and the dynamics between her and her friends. This means you're allowed to choose whoever else will be featured (Dave, June, Rose, or even all of them!) in your piece with Jade.
You're even allowed to include other characters (such as the trolls or Alpha kids) as long as the focus stays on the Beta kids!

Are we able to draw comics for the zine?
Yes!! If you'd like to make a comic, please include that in the pitch or comment section of the application so we can take note.
Make sure to include a comic as an example or have it easy to find within your portfolio if so!
hi!!!! one of my really strong pieces i'd like to apply with is only 1.1k but the other 2 are 2-2.5k. is the 1.1k one allowed or should i pivot to another example??? tysm!!!
Hi! All three examples should be at least 1.5k words.
However, there is a place at the end of the application where you can leave any comments or questions for us. Let us know there so we can take note of the fic in question when looking through your portfolio! Works in your portfolio do not need to fit our word count limits.
