This probably went as well as it could have.

“Because they put a lot of stuff in their show that…doesn’t really make any sense but-”

“There was a scene in episode 8 that I asked them to write in because I felt that storyline wasn’t really told that well”

“I was like…errrm is that gonna work ?”

We are angry at the creators, and that totally makes sense. But seeing the 7th episode get mass-downvoted, especially by queer viewers, is disturbing. When an episode with a queer coming out is tanked, it doesn’t hurt the Duffers, or Netflix, or whatever. It sends a message that queer stories are “bad for ratings.” Come on! In the current political climate, that’s harmful for future queer rep.

At the same time, a lot of this rating-bombing is happening because of the cutgate. Something that was never confirmed and is very likely fake, based on fan theories and predictions about vol2. Watching people going crazy over an unverified rumor AGAIN is alarming.

And whatever we think about the writing or Netflix, Noah, a gay man, went through a lot to film that scene. I’m 100% sure he himself isn’t happy with how the scene turned out. But from his perspective, It must be painful for him to pour himself into such a difficult moment, only to watch the episode be attacked by so many people, including queer people. I’m just waiting for Noah to finally be free from this show, honestly. He’s been through enough already.

I’m not happy with the vol2 either. I’m unhappy with a lot of things: the main sci-fi plot, the way characters were twisted, especially Will and Mike, and how their relationship was handled. Even outside the Byler context, their special bond and unique connection got drained. But I just can’t understand destroying the rating of only 7th episode, or freaking out over something unconfirmed. It’s completely counterproductive, guys. Calm down, please.
