Hiii, this is my blog. I post things. Mostly, I reblog a ton of posts & then go on my merry way. Occasionally, I’ll post some art too.

I like some new wave/post punk stuff, Springless Music, The Cardigans, Vocaloid, and plenty of other genres & bands. I also like fashion!! especially 70s & 80s stuff. I like older movies & tv shows, and I've been meaning to catch up on some pop culture references there in.

As you progress in your education and perhaps begin doing research projects, there becomes this ideal of "independent research", the kind of thing that turns you into a professional rather than a student. And I'm beginning to think that this is a bit of a misnomer in how people interpret this phrase and the idea behind it.

In graduate school, you are training to become an independent researcher, that's basically the whole idea. The common ideal archetype is the "multiple first-author papers grad student who never needs help nor asks questions". And while being able to lead a project to the natural conclusion of a paper is an integral skill, it's rarely done alone or entirely independently. In truth, research is typically very collaborative and it's rare to work alone.

My more recent interpretation of becoming an "independent researcher" is more about learning how to be responsible for your own work. This means taking the initiative to see it complete and correct. This can look like asking for advice from other experts, teaching collaborators so they can get up to speed, or double checking that your work is consistent with other literature/logic.

Obviously this is not an overnight process, and it's something I've only recently could put into words. Learning how to do all of this is hard, and I'm in the middle of this frankly scary and painful transition.

According to the article, this was for a display, and there are MORE of them ("four giant bugs, measuring around one and half metres long, and nine smaller bugs, that are about half a metre long"), but I'm having a hard time finding them. I need to see the Big Bugs. I already emailed the company that did the exhibition asking for pictures of the rest of them but if y'all have any info BLEASE show me.

I know it goes against everything we've ever been taught, but we do need to put in the work to realize that being ugly is...completely fine. like entirely neutral. so is being conventionally attractive. neutral. not just for other people, but for ourselves. you need to be able to look at yourself and see what you perceive to be physical flaws and go "this is okay, this is the least important part of who I am." It's so beyond okay and normal and fine to be ugly. And I know! Easier said than done. But I do genuinely believe that freedom from looking into the mirror and hating yourself is a worthy goal. Freedom from judging a person immediately based off of their appearance is a worthy goal. Freedom from buying the thousands of products they try and tell you will make you perfect, as if that should be the aim and goal, is a worthy goal.
