Солнечный удар — это то же, что и тепловой? Не совсем. В то время как тепловой удар — это воздействия тепла (теплового инфракрасного излучения) на все тело, солнечный удар — это результат воздействия прямых солнечных лучей на голову. Инфракрасное излучение делится на длинноволновое и коротковолновое. Длинноволновое не проходит дальше кожи и вызывает покраснение (что сопровождается жжением), в то время как коротковолновое способно проникать до 7-10 сантиметров вглубь тела. Соответственно, минуя череп, оно разогревает ваш мозг, вызывая расширение сосудов — а это для него уже ненормально, идет воспаление и всякие другие физиологические караул-реакции. А мозгом мы не только думаем! Он ещё регулирует наш пульс, давление, дыхание... Особенно опасно наличие аневризмы — это когда на сосуде мозга есть какое-то выпячивание, которого в норме быть недолжно. В этом месте стенка сосуда очень тонкая, и при расширении (в случае солнечного удара), есть риск того, что она лопнет. А это уже смертельно опасно. Беда в том, что большинство случаев наличия аневризмы выясняется уже пост-фактум, когда она лопнула. То есть вы можете не подозревать о её наличии у себя.

Is sunstroke the same thing as heatstroke? Not exactly. [An addition for eng version of text: Well, it seems like in english medical literature this word is rarely used; you say "heatstroke" instead, right?... but I'm going to talk based on the terminology used in my home country bcs this classification makes sense, okay?] While heatstroke is caused by heat (infrared radiation) affecting the entire body, sunstroke is the result of direct sunlight on the head. Infrared radiation is divided into long-wave and short-wave types. Long-wave radiation does not penetrate beyond the skin and causes redness (accompanied by a burning sensation), while short-wave radiation can penetrate up to 7–10 centimeters into the body. Consequently, bypassing the skull, it heats up your brain, causing blood vessels to dilate — which is abnormal for the brain, leading to inflammation and all sorts of other physiological emergency responses. And we don’t just think with our brains! It also regulates our heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing... An aneurysm is particularly dangerous. This is when there’s a bulge in a blood vessel in the brain that shouldn’t normally be there. At this spot, the vessel wall is very thin, and when it dilates (as in the case of sunstroke), there’s a risk that it will rupture. And that’s life-threatening. The problem is that most cases of an aneurysm aren’t discovered until after the fact, once it has burst. In other words, you might not even suspect you have one.

И кепка... меня от этого спасет? Да. Любой головной прибор обладает отражательной способностью. Не скажу насчет инфракрасного излучения, но, для пртмера степень прозрачности для ультрафиолета [сколько пропускает] у синтетических тканей может доходить до 70%, в то время как для хлопка это значение часто в районе 10% или ниже. ИК и УФ не одно и то же, но лучше выбирать все же натуральные (либо синтетику, но! с SPF эффектом) и плотные ткани — если у вас вместо платка на голову "сеточка", понятное дело что она вас не защитит. Также светлая одежда отражает солнечный свет лучше, чем темная. Помните об этом при выборе головного убора!

And a cap... will that protect me from all that? Yes. Any headwear has reflective properties. I dont know what abit infrared radiation, but, for example, the UV transmittance [how much it lets through] of synthetic fabrics can reach up to 70%, while for cotton, this figure is often around 10% or lower. IR and UV aren’t the same thing, but it’s still better to choose natural fabrics (or synthetics with SPF protection) and thick fabrics: if you’re wearing a “mesh” headscarf, it won’t protect you (it's obvious, right?). Also, light-colored clothing reflects sunlight better than dark clothing. Keep this in mind when choosing a head covering!

Каковы симптомы солнечного удара? Плохо обычно становится резко. Наступает головная боль, тошнота, рвота, слабость, повышение температуры тела, судороги, нарушение пульса, потемнение в глазах и другие нарушения зрения. Вплоть до потери сознания (обмороки) и остановки сердца. Это не все, но наиболее частые симптомы.

What are the symptoms of sunstroke? You usually start feeling unwell very suddenly. Symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, fever, seizures, irregular pulse, blurred vision, and other visual disturbances. These can progress to loss of consciousness (fainting) and cardiac arrest. This is not an exhaustive list, but these are the most common symptoms.

Что мне делать если мне станет внезапно плохо / кому-то станет плохо на моих глазах? Пострадавшей следует срочно оказаться в тени и принять положение лежа (желательно на бок, из-за тошноты). Вызовите скорую. При остановке сердца проводится сердечно-легочная реанимация (нужно уметь! всем настоятельно советую научиться!). Если не все так критично, то срочно охладить голову и тело прохладной, но не ледяной водой. По прибытию домой — пить больше воды, исключить физическую активность.

What should I do if I suddenly feel sick / if someone else becomes ill right in front of me? The person who is feeling ill should immediately move into the shade and lie down (preferably on their side, bcs of vomiting — it is "the recovery position"). Call an ambulance. In the event of cardiac arrest, perform CPR (you need to know how to do this, I strongly advise everyone to learn!). If the situation isn’t that critical, immediately cool the head and body with cool, but not ice-cold, water. Once you get home, drink plenty of water and avoid physical activity.

Еще советы? Пейте больше воды. Не переедайте и не употребляйте алкоголь, если знаете, что будете долгое время на солнце. Устали – отдохните в тени. Нахождение под водой от солнечных лучей не спасает, банально обгорите, так еще и есть риск утонуть от внезапного приступа слабости. Самый пик жары, как правило, это позднее утро и до полудня — планируйте по возможночти физическую активность на ранее утро или вечер. И НОСИТЕ КЕПОЧКУ, ЛИЧНО У ВСЕХ ПРОВЕРЮ >:(

Any other tips? Drink enough water. Don’t overeat or drink alcohol if you know you’ll be out in the sun for a long time. If you’re tired, take a break in the shade. Being underwater doesn’t protect you from the sun’s rays: you’ll still get sunburned, and there’s also the risk of drowning from a sudden bout of weakness. The heat is usually at its peak in the late morning and before noon, so plan your physical activities for early morning or evening whenever possible. AND WEAR A GODDAMN HAT, SIS, IM SERIOUS >:(

We can also just stop dividing sports that require the same abilities. Like, why is there beach volleyball and regular volleyball? There should only be one? Who cares if the athletes that trained all their lives for a specific subdiscipline get fucked? This is all about seeing who is Objectively The Best. It's not like sports and sporting competitions are very limited constructed scenarios with a very limited set of rules that change all the time and aren't just based on pure ability. No, no, this is about who is The Strongest (mostly in sports better suited for cis men). So let's do away with all that.
