"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
If you've ever seen images of sweatshops in the early 20th century, in New York or the UK or other developed countries
Guess what
Your clothing is still made in a place that looks like that. The only thing that's different is the tech level of the sewing machines and the race of the workers
watching the graduate (1967) with my cap and gown next to me this might be an original experience

This is so basic and general, and also very specific and I fear it's literally me
if you ever have a conversation with me for more than two minutes i will actually say this exact line and then precede to tell you a poorly explained plot of the star trek episode in question and then everyone around me says "michael no one knows what your on about and i think your autistic you need to be diagnosed by a therapist"
this photo is my life
Just started reading Sherlock Holmes and all the adaptations are wrong. This man is a delight. He gets excited about hemoglobin and is ecstatic at the thought of Watson as a roommate. He purposefully forgets how the solar system works so he has more room in his brain for crime. He shows Watson the dirt stains on his trousers and he can tell what part of London they come from based on color and consistency. (As far as i can tell Watson didn't ask, Sherlock just gets back from walks and tells Watson about the stains unprompted.) The text specifically says "Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with." Why does every adaptation make him unpleasant and rude, he's literally just eccentric. He's such a goober, I love him.
I think that the answer is a little more complicated than people want to realize. Although, a part of the reason is writers in the modern day struggle to write an intelligent character and the estate is strict, the reason for this disconnect in sherlocks character can be found in the books too. There are lines in the stories that say things along the lines of Sherlock being an asshole. Stamford calls him "too scientific for my tastes" (A Study in Scarlet, Mr. Sherlock Holmes), Watson says that emotion are "abhorrent to [sherlocks] cold, precise but admirably balanced mind" (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, A Scandal in Bohemia) and that sherlock is consistently blunt almost to a point of seeming uncaring. I believe that writers tend to focus in on these lines (especially considering the fact that these are the most popular Sherlock stories). You see this kind of focus in the Robert Downey JR. movies. Sherlock dislikes Marry which, in the books, Sherlock says that he "cannot congratulate" Watson on his marriage to Marry as love is an emotion that is "opposed to that true cold reason" (The Sign of Four, The Strange Story of Jonathan Small). The movie focuses on that but fails to mention that Sherlock does like Marry in the book as he says that she is "one of the most charming young ladies that [he] has ever met" (same citation as previous). Another example of this kind of disconnect is in the 2010 mini series. When Sherlock is describing the clues on Watsons phone in the first episode, it's to show off his skills. In the books, Watson gives him the challenge to "prevent [sherlock] from taking a second dose of cocaine" (The Sign of Four, The Science of Deduction). These all show that writers overly focus on certain parts of the stories. Your not wrong in saying that sherlock is a lovely man, it's just that the writers that write sherlock as an ass are also not wrong. That's the weird part about sherlocks character, he's complex. Despite Sir Arthur Conan Doyle hating Sherlock Holmes, he wrote him as a complex and multi dimensional character (a round character, if you will).
anyways, im sorry that this reblog is really long. i could write a whole essay about sherlocks character. maybe i just did whoops. hes nice in a case of identity (my fav) and in the sign of four he plays watson a song to help him fall asleep, so if you want some good sherlock there you are.
I was talking to my english teacher today and I said I was watching supernatural and she said 'the only reason I watched that was for Jensen Ackles' and she was so real for that

it hasnt even been a full month and i already missed two days of school
i got sick on finals week
do you ever hate when a franchise doesn't do what you want so you get fed up and make characters and then write a screen play for a pilot episode??
