Datalore??? Concept??? Idk if I'll ever finish it. But. Erm. I really really like it.
In Theory??
I rewatched In Theory, and I want to try to explain my thoughts as clearly as I can. In Data's Day, I saw an innocent, friendly, curious Data, someone who was learning about life through people. Here, though, something feels different.
At the beginning of the episode, Jenna likes him exactly as he is. She is drawn to his attentiveness, his gentleness, and his emotional balance. But later, after studying literature and history, Data starts modeling his behavior on old romantic conventions. The relationship begins to resemble something out of a 1950s romantic comedy, and because he is an android, it comes across as deeply artificial, even a little unsettling at times, despite the fact that Brent Spiner's smile is incredibly seductive.
My point is that this isn't how Data normally behaves.
When he kisses Jenna and tells her that he is thinking about many things at once, constantly analyzing, I don't actually see that as a problem. Human beings think about countless things all the time, even during intimacy. That part felt honest.
What pushed her away, in my opinion, was that in trying so hard to please her, he stopped being himself. The quiet, thoughtful, naturally curious Data she had fallen for disappeared behind a performance of what he believed a romantic partner was supposed to be. I still love Data, and I always will. But this episode made me feel deeply sad for the colorlessness of his inner world, for his cold, unchanging emotional temperature. At the same time, I couldn't help feeling sorry for Jenna too.
The 27th charater for aro pride is Data from star trek next generation!
While data doesn't have any emotions as an android, this headcanon comes specifically from the episode with his daughter Lal. I remeber the first time watching it as she explored emotions, especially romance, and the heartbreak I felt seeing him wish he could experience those emotions, especially since he couldn't hold it against her that she did and could only be satisfied that she had what he could not
