RÁM GORGE

If you are up for a hike in the mountains, the easiest is to go to the beautiful Rám gorge, which is a really calm green place with a lot of waterfalls. You walk along with the small creek and through the forest.

It's located in the Pilis hills near to the village of Dömös, not far from Budapest.

HOW TO GET THERE:

By bus: from Újpest-Városkapu (in the direction of Esztergom)

By train: from Nyugati railway station (in the direction of Szob) to the station called "Dömösi átkelés", then go through the Danube with the ferry. THE TRAIN ONLY GOES IN THE SUMMER.

By car: Dömös is located 43 km from Budapest, it takes about an hour to get there according to the Google Maps.

Festetics Castle at Dég

This is the biggest English garden of Hungary, with a castle, a lake and an island with a "Holland house".

A really calm place, perfect for a walk and relaxing. It's beautiful in every season. You can walk around the lake, or you can go to the island and just chill and drink ice cold water from the spring.

HOW TO GET THERE

By car: it's located 100 km from Budapest, about 1 hour by car

By public transport: you can take buses (change lines only 1 time), it's about 3 hours

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

This cute little town called Pécs is located in Southern Hungary, and it has a huge Mediterranean vibe in the summer, with all the palm trees, cobblestone streets and historical buildings (even from the Turkish occupation time).

HOW TO GET THERE:

It is quite far from Budapest, 230-290 km according to Google Maps.

By car, you can drive on M6 motorway (vignette needed), it takes only about 2 hours.

By public transport, the easiest is taking the train or the bus.

Train: it departs from Kelenföld train station, it takes about 3 hours, but you need to change to another train, so it is more difficult.

Bus: it departs from Népliget, there are direct lines, it takes about 3-4 hours.
