Hunger-striking Palestine Action prisoners say health is collapsing as UK detention conditions worsen
Palestine Action prisoner Heba Muraisi, now on her 57th day of hunger strike in a UK prison, says she is losing the ability to think clearly and even form sentences. In a statement via Prisoners for Palestine, she described growing weaker by the day, unable to lie on her side due to the pain, and separated from other strikers after being transferred over 100 miles away from friends and family. She has not seen her family in more than four months.
Muraisi is one of four prisoners still refusing food, with two others having been forced to pause their strike after being hospitalized. They are protesting their treatment in custody, the proscription of Palestine Action, and what they describe as Britain’s complicity in Israel’s actions in Gaza. Eight Palestine Action defendants face charges linked to direct actions targeting Elbit Systems UK and an RAF site before the group was banned, and none are expected to stand trial before May 2026.
Another striker, Teuta Hoxha, held in HMP Peterborough, reports she can no longer stand without blacking out and is now “virtually bedridden” due to worsening health.
