USA & Caribbean Tour 2016 - Defining success, being introverted in a extrovert career, the importance of creative energy

One of my top goals for this year was to travel internationally for a gig, this finally happened, totally unexpectedly. I had planned to take two months away from London to learn farming skills, train and to be alone in nature and a week before going away I got the call.

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago -> Salt Lake City, UT, Ocho Rios & Montego Bay, Jamaica -> San Francisco, CA -> Los Angeles, CA -> Palm Springs, CA

Success When I received the job with Machel Montano and Omi I received a lot of supportive comments and also comments that were flavored with a “wow, you made it.” It’s interesting the psychological impact a big stage has upon people. I would hope that monetary value and fame does not measure success of your life path, and that you’re driven by passion. This entire time since I’ve found the art of performing I have felt success. I suppose everyone has a different perspective on where they want to go, so I know I’m contradicting someone, somewhere. I do want to be straight and say that fame does not interest me, this was just my own re-realization.

Traveling and a performing introvert It’s so hard, and it’s so hard to say “no” to peer pressure on social outings and even simple hugs, but I think taking care of your personal space is so vital. When I could, being strictly alone and taking time to digest the day kept me balanced. The amount of social energy a performer has to give to clients and audience is so major. I spent my last week of traveling at Hoopburbia Festival in LA and it was absolutely rejuvenating to take a whole week to be instructed and inspired by other professional dancers to better my skills. It was food. It was inspiring.

Creative energy Anyday I had the time - dancehall, acroyoga, contemporary dance, voguing, hiking mountains, rollarskating - anything so that my body would continue to understand itself more deeply. I ran into so many artist of different medium that right now all I want to do is create anything. You know, that is actually the beauty, you can make anything if you want to. If you want to believe you’re born special, sure okay. Honestly, just create yourself into something and whatever else those cliche mugs say to do.
