the problem isn't bipedalism it's the vertical spine situation

any sane bipedal bodyplan (or any tetrapod bodyplan really) has the spine horizontal (penguins are optimised for swimming they're playing a different game), humans are just kind of janky on account of they lost their tail (which would otherwise be a perfect counterbalance to do bipedalism theropod-style)

why did they lose it?

to minimise their center of mass to brachiate better of course! (see: gibbons)

except then they stopped brachiating again but One Doesn't Simply Regain a Tail so the only balanced bipedal position remaining short of growing a giant hypertrophied ass was "upright spine" which is objectively pretty ass in its own right

at least the ancestral tree-slinging made their arms really good at yeeting sticks (=brachiating but the "tree" is lighter than you are) so it was either tails or javelins

personally id have gone with the tail regardless but yknow, so it goes
