Watching my toddler figure out how to language is fascinating. Yesterday we were stumped when he kept insisting there was a “Lego winner” behind his bookshelf - it turned out to be a little Lego trophy cup. Not knowing the word for “trophy”, he’d extrapolated a word for “thing you can win”. And then, just now, he held up his empty milk container and said, “Mummy? It’s not rubbish. It’s allowed to be a bottle.” - meaning, effectively, “I want this. Don’t throw it away.” But to an adult ear, there’s something quite lovely about “it’s allowed to be a bottle,” as if we’re acknowledging that the object is entitled to keep its title even in the absence of the original function.
Another good post to read for those writing small human characters.
My son was about three when he came to me in the middle of the day and said, “Mommy, there’s a knight behind the bush.” I thought he meant a toy knight or something. So I follow him outside and he goes, “Listen. Do you hear it? It’s night behind the bush.” It was a cricket. A cricket was standing in the little patch of shade under the bush, chirping. So, my son saw this dark area with accompanying nighttime sounds and decided, okay, well, that is a night right there. Their brains are incredible.
My little bean knows she’s two, constantly saying proudly ‘I’m two!’ And the other day she saw this very frail old lady who looked one foot in the grave, pulled a face and said ‘oh shiiiit. She’s three.’ I almost screamed.
I live in Korea and have a lot of international friends, and the same is true with language barriers in adults.
*Looking at a bowl of pears* “Can you please pass me the… apple’s friend?”
OH SHIT SHE’S THREE

Show up at work like hi boss sorry I'm late my I was helping my mother track down one specific 90s dungeon crawler for the purposes of obtaining a muffin recipe the developer hid in the files
Anyway shoutout to Stonekeep (1995)
I'M MAKING THE MUFFINS
Burnt my hand picking it up to show. Gonna wait to taste.
Taste review: Make the video game muffins oh my GOD.
These are DELICIOUS! I substituted chocolate chips for pecans because its what i had on hand.
It tastes like a pumpkin gingerbread cake! Great treat for fall and winter!
Definitely make these!
Text from recipe
Tim Cain's Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins -- They're the shadow king's favorite!
1 and 2/3 cup flour
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup sugar
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup pumpkin (half of a 16 oz can)
1/2 cup (one stick) butter, melted
preheat oven to 350. grease muffin tins (one dozen regular size) or use baking cups. mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Break eggs into another bowl. add pumpkin and butter and whisk until blended. stir in chocolate chips. pour over dry ingredients and stir until just blended. do NOT overstir! scoop batter into tins and bake 20-25 minutes. after cooling, keep muffins wrapped in plastic to avoid drying.
I'm sure people have pointed it out already, but
Tim Cain is one of the creators of Fallout
and he is an overall delight

i like to imagine the arisen can sense pawns, like their natural connection through the rift is kind of like going under high voltage wire, you can feel it vaguely and you can probably get a good sense of direction for where they are and how they are doing, kind of my excuse for why the arisen can see their health bars and see their names on screen.
but the main pawn is special, they can feel their precise location, they know how they are feeling in an almost mind reading kind of way, not just like are they alive and healthy but like if they are sad or excited the Arisen can feel it too.
maybe Grigori is like that too, in the og game if you failed the seneschal after beating him you became him in the next link in the chain, maybe that's why he always knows where you are, and knows who your beloved is, cause he can feel who has the closest connection to you.
One of those dancing '54 Godzilla women is Ilene and Ling's grandmother. Around sixty years after that dance: "You like girls, Ling? Me too! We have so much in common!"
"Grandma, I thought it was because the gender ratio meant you had to dance with a woman at a function like that?!"
"Sweetie, it was the '50s. That certainly was the case for a lot of people, but it helped me realize I'm attracted to women."
"Whoa, Grandma's bisexual, I didn't know that!"
"By the way, I'm bisexual!"
I know you're more of a gamer than a watcher, and I don't know if it's 100% your thing, but if you're into Love,Death+Robots-style horror with mostly Russian and cyberpunk dystopic settings and some folklore like the vurdulak, then you MIGHT be interested in giving Red Iron Road a check. (Just make sure you're logged in to YT while watching it, otherwise you'll get ads interrupting literally every two fucking minutes.)
Oh, I do love some folklore! Haven't dipped into Love, Death + Robots yet, but I've got some free time after the weekend so maybe I'll check that out, and I'll keep an eye on Red Iron Road while I'm at it. Thanks for the recommendation!
It took several tries, especially on the Last Drop, but victory is sweet.
If dangerous predator why ear shape like that
