This would be such a revolutionary act

capitalism is fundamentally a system designed to create scarcity where there wasn't any before
for a while there was a little problem where if someone could own something, they wouldn't need to buy it again - which is obviously very sad and problematic (bad for the economy). with the world-changing discovery of subscription-based billing models, we have entered a glorious new era of infinite purchases forever (good for the economy).
pirates represent an even bigger threat now than ever before - rather than depriving the innocent IP holders of one purchase, these scoundrels are now preventing infinity purchases, stealing an amount of potential future revenue that is truly incalculable because the limit doesn't exist. if you pirate one single movie or album video game, you have pulled off a heist with an effective financial value of literally billions of dollars in perpetuity. modern online criminals put archaic bank or jewelry robbers (with their paltry one-time payoff) to shame.

"my life isn't a crime, I'm not one of those people -"
"you sure? new parameters for Those People just dropped. check again."
And if you truly cannot imagine this, if you're convinced that it will never happen to you, consider this one thing.
Would you want scammers to know the state of your loved one's dementia?
Oh. Shit.
[ID: "I have nothing to hide." False.
You have medical history. You have financial behaviour. You have location patterns. You have political views. You have relationship data.
Privacy was never about hiding crimes. It was always about owning your life. /End ID]
A lot of people seem to mix up âcommunityâ with âfriend groupâ so when they read âno one should be abandoned by the community. No matter what they didâ they think it means âyou have to be friends with abusersâ. When in reality it means âno matter what someone does they shouldnt be left to go homeless and be denied financial, housing, medical, etc aidâ
You donât have to be friends with these people, no one is saying that. Itâs just saying that you should support rehabilitative justice, support programs that help homeless people, support funding for free medical services, and make sure they donât turn away anyone who needs help.
Can we start like a "I've been personally impacted in the following ways" list or something?
In the wide scheme of life, I'm relatively privileged. Because millions of people are dead because of or violently damaged by him. For me, due directly to Elon Musk/DOGE/Project 2025/Dark MAGA...
My job of 15 years at a gender justice/youth serving nonprofit is gone. A job that used to have federal grants and other "DEI" related funding behind it that he decimated. I found a new job, but it doesn't pay nearly as well. The org is now serving about 1/2 of the number of youth they used to through after school enrichment programs....with HUNDREDS of girls statewide losing access to supportive adults and mentorship.
My 87 year old aunt (who I am power of atty for) lost access to a study she was participating in for treatments for her macular degeneration WHICH WERE WORKING because the nonprofit that was funding her treatments was slashed.
My partner is only able to get insurance as a self employed person via the Affordable Care act. EM is a big part of the premiums now costing us 150% of what they were in 2024.
Perhaps we could have afforded that increase, but not only am I making less now, but that self employed partner has also frequently been paid via local Austin arts organizations which were similarly decimated. My partner is now getting about 40% as much gig work as he did 2 years ago.
Where I live, everyone is freaking out because we're on the verge of a very very VERY bad screwworm situation due to DODE related prevention program cuts. All kinds of animals are unnecessarily at risk now.
I'm not saying it's a simple 1:1 cause/effect that him being a trillionaire "did this" but c'mon. We all know.
there's probably a better way of wording the last part but like come on it doesn't matter if we're all the same to fascists

Where's it made? Who brought it here? How much were they paid? Who makes it? Is it made in separate parts and put together? How much were they all paid to do this? Where do they get the materials? Who paid for that? Who brings it there? How much were they paid? Who streamlined the base materials? How much were they paid? Who gathered the base materials? Where? How much were they paid? Is it good for them? Is it good for us? Is it good for the land? Is it necessary? Is it biodegradable? How much does it hurt? Do I need it? Do I even want it?
âIf I have one message to give to the secular American people, itâs that the world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we donât know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.â
â Marjane Satrapi, Iranian graphic novelist
Goodnight, and rest in peace, Marjane Satrapi. Thank you for your work and your voice. May we hear you.
RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70âs and 80âs. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

"While those working at private companies can at least earn a little money, they face possible punishment if they refuse, from being denied family visits to being sent to higher-security prisons, which are so dangerous that the federal government filed a lawsuit four years ago that remains pending [note: article is from 2024], calling the treatment of prisoners unconstitutional.
Though they make at least $7.25 an hour, the state siphons 40% off the top of all wages and also levies fees, including $5 a day for rides to their jobs and $15 a month for laundry.
Turning down work can jeopardize chances of early release in a state that last year granted parole to only 8% of eligible prisoners â an all-time low, and among the worst rates nationwide â though that number more than doubled this year after public outcry."
No state has a longer, more profit-driven history of contracting prisoners out to private companies than Alabama.

October 3, 1992: Sinead OâConnor appeared on Saturday Night Live singing an acapella cover of Bob Marleyâs song âWarâ, changing some of the lyrics to include references to child abuse, and ending the performance by tearing up a photo of Pope John Paull II and saying âfight the real enemyâ.
This ruined her career and she was telling the truth, as we all came to find out years later.
Please remember she didnât consider it as a career ruiner.Â
To speak on how it âruinedâ her career ignores her own feelings on it. Please acknowledge how she felt about it, instead of how you see it.
A rule change pushed by White House officials would slash benefits or end support for as many as 400,000 Supplemental Security Income recipi
The Trump administration wants to make a rule change that would decrease or end benefits for SSI recipients who live with their family. As many as 400,000 disabled people may have their benefits cut if this rule change occurs.
It's worth noting as always that as things currently stand, the MAXIMUM benefit a person can receive from SSI is $994 a month.
If two people on SSI are married, the MAXIMUM they can receive is $1,491 a month, total, for both of them. (Meaning marriage to another SSI recipient reduces your maximum income possible to $745 a person each month.)
Could you live on that?
Could you live on that without living with family?
