Every year that this day comes and passes, I wonder if I will feel any differently next year on this same day. Will I remember less? Will I have forgotten the sound of her voice or laugh? Will I miss her less? The truth is, it will never change. Ashley had a smile and laugh you could never forget. The memories I made with her will always play back in my mind like a movie reel. But each year that passes by, I don't miss her less, in reality, I always miss her a little more. As you start to get older, you're lucky in life if you have a handful of friends that are your TRUE best friends. The real friends. They ones that tell you how it is. The ones you can trust. I had that in Ashley from the beginning. I know she'd be one of those "handful" of friends I'd have today. And how lucky am I? How lucky am I that I had such an awesome friendship with her? I feel truly blessed to have the time with her I did! This day always sets me through a whirlwind of emotions. I tend to overthink things. Ashley was the same way. She used to say to me that we self sabotage ourselves with our overthinking. So on this day every year, I sit and replay back the events. I think of the would if's, and the could of's. I get mad, then confused, then sad. But you know what, in the end... I know that I am blessed. Blessed for the memories I got to share with her. Blessed that she is always with me still, everyday. I am selfish somedays, and wish she was still physically here of course. I cannot believe it's been 8 years. I do truly believe, however, that God took her from us for something better. There are always going to be bad things that happen in this world... unimaginable tragedies. There is also always going to be hate, unfortunately. However, to see the down right territorist hate crimes going on in our own country, by its own citizens, makes me physically sick. This country works hard to be able to take pride in the fact that we don't have the hate and cruelity that other countries inflict on their own members of society. I can't say that we are that proud country as of late. Do not fight back with hate. Ignorance has no tolerance for the open minded individuals of this country. Love is so much greater than hate, and even with the extreme evil that exists in this world, I STRONGLY believe that there will always be so much more love.
