One of the things I have always found quite amusing about living with other people, is how, when you put Italians coming from different regions of Italy together, the second we start speaking our respective dialects no one understands a fucking thing anymore. Not talking about accents, but regional variations of standard Italian and in some cases straight-up minority languages that can occur within the same region (I speak Friulian other than Italian, but in the alpine town where I live — still in Friuli btw — people speak a fucking Bavarian dialect that is stuck to the Middle Ages due to centuries of isolatoon and not even German speakers understand...).
