"Hold still," you hissed, nearing your wit's end and manhandling your blockmate's head back to the position you needed.
Alex grunted at the firm treatmenr. He was unable to help but laugh lightly at making your job just slightly more difficult for you. Even if he was the one who asked for help with cutting his hair.
"You might be taking this a bit too seriously, you know?" he teased, with those soft eyes of his looking up at you through his lashes.
"If I'm doing this, you're gonna leave here looking fantastic." You snipped off another wisp of his hair, combing it back. You hummed and nodded. "Granted, I already thought you looked good..."
Alex snorted, trying to brush off the compliment because doing so otherwise would make him implode. "Just yesterday, you compared my head to a mop."
"And I'm fixing it free of charge!"
There was no denying he felt warmer at your dismissive response, not when every time you reached for a tuft of his hair and snipped, his heart skipped a little. He has noticed his hair getting too long—and while he could easily have went to a barber, he figured getting you to do it would be infinitely cheaper. And, no doubt, much more entertaining, with your concentrated frown and the way you huffed whenever he so much as twitches an eyebrow.
He could always feel his muscles loosen up when it was you handling his hair. Handling him in general. Whenever he actually listened when you position him a certain way, you handled him so gently. He would be purring if he could.
And you had no idea. None at all, of how this boy went out of his way to come over, plop himself on your chair, and sweetly ask you if you could help cut his hair.
You were just happy to help. Somewhat. You could do with a lot less squirming, but that's Alex. Ever since after your first semester, he's been a recurring presence in your life. Ever since moving to Berlin, life had been hectic. A new environment, people speaking a different language, having to keep up with a new curriculum... Alex was there, earnestly helping you get used to it all when he didn't have to. He took over when you couldn't, encouraged you when you hesitated, and cheered when you did something you couldn't before... He has been a good friend.
It helped to have him around when everyone else around you just didn't click. Not like he did with you. And so you continued cutting his hair. For as much as you grumbled, he was such a sweet boy. And he trusts you to make him look handsome. Even if you already thought he did.
