Anway I think this gift is a constant source of pain and self flagellation for Ilya. Because shouldn't he have known something was wrong? Shouldn't he have known it was a sign? He was just so happy to have his mama back and everything back to normal, but he should have known better... and at times he kindof spins it into this secret coded message. she was giving him a clue, she wanted him to figure it out and save her, and he didn't pick up on it so it's his fault she died. He spend the nest couple years picking apart every moment of those last couple days looking for secret coded messages and imagining what might have happened if he was better and smarter and put it all together in time to save her... Eventually he kindof packs that fantasy away although he still blames himself for her death.

Now I’m imagining a scenario where after Shane moves to the Centaurs, and after they’re married, Ilya calls him a girl in bed (#notmyilya but just pretend). And at any other time Shane would have dumped his ass, but he just blew up his whole career to be with him, so he’s trapped. Who is he even supposed to talk to about this? His parents, who love Ilya? Ilya’s friends and teammates? Hayden, who just outed him?
