“Is hunger an emotion or just a natural reaction of your body?” a question that came in my mind. There are several causes of hunger. Somehow, the reasons relies to a person. Yet, there are only two types of man that answered about their own definition of hunger, one, based on physical perspective, two, from their deep complicated mind. So, what’s the real statement for it?
Beforehand, let’s look at the definition of hunger. According to dictionary.com, a noun that it is the painful sensation or state of weakness caused by the need of food but in verb, it is to feel hunger or be hungry and to have strong desire. For me, it is the state of a person in which they can’t help their tummy for growling, they can’t stop to demand and they can’t control their emotions. Sometimes, they feel embarrassed if someone asked, “Did you eat?”, then they replied, “Yes, I ate already or I’m full.”, still their belly won’t be control from what they said, so it rumbles.
In human nature, contentment is rare, they can need and can want more. Also, curiosity doesn’t fulfill satisfaction, being curious triggers men to do what isn’t enough for them, much like in terms of hunger, once that you eat a piece of pizza, you crave for more. When you just saw a picture of chocolate frappe with chocolate cake, you want to buy it, for short, it makes you hungry. Frequently, people are weak when they are in suffering of hunger. You might have headache and a painful war on your tummy, or worst, you will collapse. So, it is just a natural reaction of your body when you can’t please your big fat belly on the food that you ate.
Furthermore, hunger can relate to thirst. If you think deeply, you can define it as a hunger for love, hunger to kill, hunger for attention, hunger for anything that you wants to connect with it. It will make sense, there are humans who are hunger for love, they can do anything just for love, it makes them crazy and thirsty. For example, from the Filipino television dramas, there are characters that will do anything for love, they can kill just to protect their special someone. Do you think that is good? Not at all.
Hunger to kill for those who are mentally ill (psychopath?) or for assassin (if there are such thing), they can be satisfied by slaying anyone. There are events that is cruel but it’s the reality, a poor man buying illegal drugs instead of eating with their family. By the time, he take those drugs without restriction, he will slaughter anyone or ‘nag-aamok’ in Filipino.
“You just want attention, you don’t want my heart,” a song from Charlie Puth. If you asked people if they like attention, they will answer yes, maybe or it depends, and no. Human beings are complicated but surely, everyone fancy attention only differs from the approach of it. Anyways, to be a man, you need to feed up by those eyes and ears focusing on you because maybe you simply aspire to boost your confidence up or maybe you just desire for it in order to grow your ego.
All in all, interpretation for hunger depends on you. It is both a natural reaction and an emotion. You can tell your answer by observing and by your common sense. Also, without the word ‘hunger’, we can’t define what we are feeling. As Adlai Stevenson said, “A hungry man is not a free man,” if you will let your ‘hunger’ eat you, you will end up from a black vision (fainting), a imaginative scene (insanity?), and a rotten body (death). Will you let hunger controls you? Are you still hungry? Well, just grab snickers.
