Hope For Tomorrow

March 23rd, 2015; I took the first steps to begin a journey so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

After three months of participating in a monitored diet and exercise regimen with monthly weigh-ins (it was considered non-compliant to gain weight between each weigh-in due to insurance guidelines), completing a psychiatric evaluation, and having an endoscopy; my health insurance has finally approved for me to have vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery! 

I feel as though the past three months will have been the most important out of this whole process. I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t overweight. My insecurities and anxiety developed at a young age as a result of bullying. Not only have I learned how to love myself, but I’ve learned the value of loving myself; I feel as though I’m a completely different person.

Because of the common misconception that this is the “easy” way out, I have only told a select few people about my surgery. The past few days have been extremely difficult for me and because of that, it’s clear to me who is going to support me unconditionally.
