Hm. I always wonder about the gems letting lapis just be trapped in there. Idk, lapis SAYS they knew she was in there but I'm not sure they DID especially because of all the other weird gem artifacts being not totally sentient gems, you know? Like they are sentient but also only semi? Idk, just wondering aloud I suppose.

Lapis is pretty funny as the mirror and I appreciate that she's just like yes Steven I like you.

The gems also seem genuinely surprised that the mirror responds like a sentient person, they don't understand how it could be working the way it is.

I think a lot of their reactions/responses in the early scenarios are SOOOOO. Frustrating. I understand what they're setting up and how Steven is the catalyst for change in their lives but still.

This episode is really interesting, and it introduces us to the idea that gems can get cracked. After telling us gems are basically indestructible, they go "actually they're not!"

Steven being reluctant to tell Connie the story ugh poor boy.

The subtle ways they show the gems clearly missing Rose, and putting that terrible pressure on Steven, ugh.

Pfft, the part about him crying about snakes teehee.

Oof. The garden being about the gems. Yoof. Pearl is SOOOO gay this woman.

I enjoy pearl being so worried about amethyst, idk if I ever picked up on just how worried about her she is.

Ugh. Steven.... Ugh. My poor boy. He climbs into the statue of his mom's lap and wow it's just so. Poignant and sad. My poor baby.

For one second he thinks he did something right, but no, THEY fixed the fountain. No Steven pearl doesn't think those things about you.

Oof that ending, Steven not even realizing he's steamrolling Connie and brushing right past her extending her friendship and connecting with him, ouchie. So stoic in the end Connie oof.

Steven is so sweet and empathetic, even in the beginning of this episode he's like "Yikes! Your arm :(" about corrupted larimar (I'm assuming).

Steven in Garnet's bubble is so cute hehe.

I'm wondering what caused nephrite/the centipeetle to reform so small. It seems like Steven's scared reaction to her is what sets that choice off but idk.

I like how defensive the gems are, they really don't understand corruption even after all this time, thousands and thousands of years.

Steven connecting with her and helping her be calm and not just mindless and stressed, oof.

Ugh. I wish the gems could've trusted Steven and empathized with centi a little more, but I DOO understand where they're coming from, they've spent thousands of years seeing their old friends and foes changed body and mind into something unrecognizable even to themselves and just being a bundle of instincts.

I like this episode, Steven learning he's annoying is great (and then that version of himself ceases to exist so).

The imagery of Steven fighting himself... Future Steven fighting past Steven... Feels a little like Future foreshadowing but idkkkk.

And then we get the cute scene at the end with the gems :> I like this song.

Another Lars episode where he's annoying, lol. I do like him but mostly he's frustrating. Oh well.

Omg amethyst as always is a menace.

I really like Sadie as a character, she's always so so sweet to Steven and she's great to everyone else too. She's sooo real as a minimum wage food service worker.

This whole episode is great because we get a silly training video song and Steven deciding Lars kinda sucks lol.

Sadie he is NOT a nice guy you are wrong bro. He's sweet in his own way but also he's a twerp teenage boy with self confidence issues.

I like the conflict of "what kind of person does that make YOU if you try to hurt him back?" "... A... Hero?" Like yeah damn. What a small detail that kinda highlights the whole theme of the show.

I love this second look at fusion! I love sugilite, frustrated that once again we barely get to see her at all.

Sidenote. I think that sugilite has some issues for sure. Some of her character design and personality traits are not in good taste, HOWEVER. I can see what they were trying to convey with her and I can definitely see how garnet and amethyst's personalities would combine to be a bit unstable/overbearing.

Moving on. I like that strong in the real way comes from pearl's feelings of inadequacy. It's really our first look at pearl in this light. I like Steven's part in this song. It's a good song! A good first look at Steven being an inspiration to those around him.

Ohhh poor Steven I have been so sore I can't move after one hit too woooof.

I wish they could've used a different vessel to showcase this message about Pearl because sugilite is still garnet and amethyst, she would remember pearl and still care about her. AND sugilite clearly doesn't use future vision at ALL. Idk I don't think they thought out how sugilite works very well tbh.

The creamed corn is so funny. Sir you didn't have to eat all of it but I love his dedication to not waste food.

Ugghh they really do seem like they're sad to not be able to spend time with Steven, but man they gotta make time for him. Ugh, and then when they get back and expect him to just be waiting up for them and not respecting his space or the fact he's in the middle of something grrrrr. They have the decency to feel bad about it at least here lol.

Oh Steven. I get why he ran in there. But I also get where the gems were coming from ugh. The room is kinda dangerous so I understand why they're worried.

The sequence running through town is SOOOOOO spooky oooooof. I love how the room reads him, "can someone please explain this?!" And it takes him to his dad because his dad always explains things to him.

The room is so so so interesting. Idk if I believe rose's consciousness resides somewhat in the room or what, but I feel like the room is PART of her, so she reaches out to Steven that way, as early as the tiny floating whale. I don't think she still Exists, necessarily, just a remnant of her in the room, which also comes out when Steven asks to talk to her in storm in the room. I do truly think Steven got to talk to Rose then, even just a remnant of her. The room KNEW her, and what she wanted. It wouldn't just NOT know what she wanted for her son, you know? Anyway, side tangent over.

Love when he gets back and they're all crazy. Love that they go to mini golfing hehe. I also love that it ends with him saying "I always get what I want!" Which is interesting seeing as he spent the greater part of the episode inside a room that tried to give him anything and everything he could feasibly want.

Back on that note, it's interesting how the room portrays Lars and Sadie and Connie. Obviously the things the room has them say/do are things Steven does WANT but they're so unnatural that he can't enjoy or believe them. Like Connie stuck in "He was incredible!!" That moment meant a lot to Steven and he wants her to think of him like that always! So the room fixated on it.

I like this episode lol. When don't I say that I suppose.

Connie ugh. She feels like she's not cool or fun enough to be Steven's friend just because he's all magical but trust me girl he has literally no exposure to normal humans HE NEEDS you. Which is true throughout the entire series.

I really love the sequence of them riding lion over the ocean!! The sound design once AGAIN is amazing, the background music is so so so cute and whimsical here.

Really cool first look into lion's powers too, his walking on water and the portal roars. Now thinking about if Lars could make portals hmmm. I guess we'll see in the new spin off.

The fight with holo-pearl is fucking SICK it is choreographed really well. I love how much they show pearl is very powerful and skilled.

Again Steven is written very realistically as a kid. He wants the cool stuff not the basics.

Poor guy was just being a kid and his mom got stabbed 💀 and he NEVER gets over seeing poofing as a form of death, because really it IS. Like it's not dying but it essentially is, especially because it leaves their gems vulnerable if there's no one there to keep them safe.

Garnet and amethyst getting into the most ridiculous hijinks without pearl around is great .

It's interesting how before holo pearl was just sitting under the sheet without bothering anyone, but the more Steven tried to get her to be real pearl, she became more active/reactive and wouldn't be stationary. Idk what it says exactly I just find it interesting.

Poor Steven :( he's so traumatized and feels SOOOO bad about what happened, and then holo pearl stabs the tv. "Why must you destroy the things I love?!"

The whole fight is SOOOO good poor guy. He does take her advice into account though!

When pearl does reform I looove the whole interaction between the four of them lmaooooo. And I love her new outfit! It's the classic one lol she sports it for the entirety of the original show from here on in.

I don't care for this episode much but it's not so bad, and I like the gems in this one they're hilarious. "There's no way I'm going into that DUMP!" about amethyst's room lol.

Ugh. Steven is sweet, feeling bad about losing his Ranger Guy and thinking his dad will be upset and Greg not even knowing anything he's talking about lol. Oh Greg.

I don't have much to say about much of this episode. Onion isn't particularly interesting to me. He's funny and weird but 🤷

The sequence of onion doing weird shit throughout town IS funny I have to say, especially with the silly snooping spy music in the background.

Amethyst is a menace, lmao. Stuffing garbage in Pearl's room just for shits and giggles.

Steven why would giving onion the replicator wand ever be a good idea. He's a terror. He's so creepy looking half the time too.

I really like this introduction to the cool kids, they're quite good examples of teenagers lmao. As long as you're not their sibling, teens are pretty cool with kids and enjoy their company.

I find Lars to be a bit insufferable. That's like the POINT but he is frustrating. It's just like he's allergic to being sincere and honest lol. I get where it comes from and I DO get what they're trying to do with Lars but it comes off so irritating sometimes.

I can appreciate Lars pov here, he feels like he can't do ANYTHING right with the cool kids.

I really like how much they highlight that the gems are REALLY really alien. They are NOT of this planet or culture at least.

I have always thought Stevens big flip flops as clown shoes is funny lmao the whoooole clown bit is crazy and hilarious.

My dad was in the room and thought "I think this tradition is why humans DIE!" was very funny lmao, yes pearl is hilarious.

I love such an early example of Steven's powers relying so heavily on his feelings and state of mind. Obviously it's not the first example, but it's SOOOOOOO clear here.

YESSSS I love opal so I'm excited for this, AND it's the first like Theatrical™ song we get where Steven is singing about a plot thing lol.

As always I love them taking time to build the relationships between the gems, obviously that's how media works lmao but I feel like su does a really good job at crafting these relationships. Amethyst and pearl are a great example of this, we always get to see how they butt heads but also DO respect one another.

Steven is so cute asking all these probing questions teehee. They write him SOOOOO well as a realistic little kid.

I love the sequence of the song, where amethyst and pearl are just doing their damnedest to be petty to one another. I also love how easily it is for them to just, work together. Like it's obviously hard for them when there's nothing to worry about, but when something serious is happening they just, ZIP right into action.

I will say they are both absolutely to blame for their issues, but if they would just like take a deep breath and not react so harshly to the other's comments/snips at each other it would be way better between them lmao. I do love their dynamic though.

Opal's arms bursting through the bird would be SOOOO terrifying lmao poor Steven. I LOOOVE opal I wish we had gotten to see a lot more of her 😔

I love this introduction to just HOW powerful and insightful garnet is. Steven once again trying to bond and spend time with the gems warms my heart. He's such a sweety pie.

Choosing the predictive dancing game for garnet is SOOOO good, I loooooove how she takes it so seriously, how seriously they all take it lol.

Again I love how much they fit into such short episodes and still move the plot along pretty well! Like dumb little jokes and interactions between Steven and the gems, like the bit where amethyst tells Steven to slam his face into the cereal. Stupid yes, but genuinely pretty funny and the episode doesn't feel like it was missing anything because they took a few seconds to include a stupid joke.

I think this aspect of garnet is something they could've explored a little more, her tendency to get lost in a fixation, or fixated so heavily on a path for the future that she literally cannot drag herself away from it.

This is the first time Steven sees garnet really losing her cool, and he doesn't handle it well at all. Steven destroying the game seems so jarring and out of character, he seems so incredibly desperate to get garnet back.
