[ He huffed, resisting the urge to squirm due to the risk of being impaled. Each needle was rusty, unclean. His eyes desperately looked around for some sort of out. ]

[ Espio opened his mouth, jaw slightly agape - before a needle, one coated in rust - ]

[ Thrusted itself through his tongue. ]

[ He screamed, back arching up instinctively- prodding himself with the other needles. ]

[ Another needle thrusted itself into his ear canal - loud ringing bursting through his head upon it scoring right through the eardrum. Another needle did the same with his opposite ear - and he could feel the pop in his skull. ]

[ He spluttered, yelling and vocalizing as well as he could - barely able to hear the sound of his own voice. His mind was still ransacked by chemicals. ]

[ Both inserted at the same time, mercilessly slipping through the cornea and penetrating the pupils with a sickening pop. Liquid oozed out of his eye sockets, as Espio wretched and squirmed - feeling the needles only go deeper. ]

[ A metal hand pressed down on his stomach, forcing his already weakened-self flat. ]

[ Espio, after having successfully soothed Charmy - faded once more into the background. He huffed, fingers running over his scales. He melted into the scenery. ]

[ ... ]

[ Not much of a point waiting for Vector now, huh? ]

[ Espio slinked back into his hiding spot - his corner he . . ]

[ From behind him, someone clamped metal arms around his arms - restraining him. One wriggled free, slapping a wet and wretched smelling cloth on his mouth. His eyes glazed over as he thrashed, taken by surprise. ]

[ He went limp, slipping out of its grip - having popped his collarbone wriggling out. ]

[ simply put- ]

[ Espio bolted the second he gained the coherency to move his feet - hearing the loud thud of metallic footsteps behind him. His head felt like it was spinning, he couldn't see straight. ]

[ He darted through the halls - vaguely eyeing bleach and vinegar on the ground, all spilled with an empty bottle of ammonia. He could barely breathe - his lungs felt like they were being squeezed. ]

[ The area was clear of any cultists, and all of the windows were blocked off. Cleaning products - all mixed together to make some sort of gas, even directly put to his airways.. ]

[ Espio knew he'd collapse soon if he didn't do something. He pulled up his cloak, holding it over his mouth - letting a wheezy dry cough thrust itself out of his throat. ]

[ He stumbled, coughing even more - seeing another spill of chemicals in the building. Silver polish, drain cleaner - fuck. This had to have been set up for a while, otherwise - Espio wouldn't be struggling this much. ]

[ He started hacking up mucus and saliva - legs giving out from underneath him. He couldn't stop coughing, his eyes stung and so did his throat. ]

[ Thud. Thud. Thud. ]

[ The Spokesman crouched down next to Espio, holding a fan - the thing blowing air in his face. The chameleon lifted his head weakly, already slipping in and out of consciousness. ]

[ The Vessel's optics dilated - and poured some sort of sickly sweet smelling chemical right onto the fan, blowing water it was directly into Espio's nostrils. ]

[ As one would expect, his eyes didn't stay open for much longer. ]

[ The Spokesman made a sound akin to a chirp, scooping Espio up and scampering away. ]

Croco-no-more-ile. Oh. That's bad, I'm sorry.

[ Espio stood invisible in the medbay. He returned, yes - he couldn't keep himself away. It was a cult, a cult that had his family in an iron grip - he wasn't going to leave until an effective strategy was made to help them go. ]

[ ..And until Vector is awake. The crocodile has been comatose for a long while now. ]

[ He watched Charmy, curled up in the crook of the crocodile's arm - reciting one of his poem books cheerfully, stretching his arms across Vector's chest. He froze, tilting his head. ]

[ He leaned across the larger one, ear pressed against his chest. He jolted straight up, shaking Vector - pressing his hand to the crocodile's chest. ]

"Big?! Shadow- uhm- uhm his heart isn't beating! He's not- he's not breathing!"

[ Espio froze in place. ]

Charmy, Charmy move please.

Big- get the-

[ Sounds rang loud in Espio's ears, relentlessly cruel and continuously bludgeoning his head. He watched Charmy get walked out by another nurse in the medbay, crouched over and rubbing his back - whispering something as an attempt to soothe him. ]

[ Espio picked up the pace, rapidly padding after her and the little bee. ]

. . .

[ Charmy sat down on the ground outside the medbay, wiping his eyes with his hands and arms - sobbing and wailing. There were others walking around, doing whatever - completely ignoring the child breaking down. ]

[ ...Espio was going to do something stupid - really, really stupid. ]

"Hey, buddy. Can you tell me what's wrong?"

[ Espio.. Knew Charmy didn't remember him, and knew Charmy wouldn't understand how Espio knew Vector or him - he had to act like a stranger to avoid further complications. He kept his voice in place, holding it back from wavering. ]

"Ueh- mmh-.. Mh- Vector- I-" [ Charmy let out a horrible scream, pulling his knees up to his head and sobbing into them - fingers holding the fabric of his cloak in an iron grip. ] "He's gonna DIE! HE'S GONNA DIE!"

"No, no- buddy, hey." [ Espio placed a hand on Charmy's shoulder, almost flinching from how the bee leaned into him instantly - wrapping little scrawny arms around his upper body and sobbing into his cloak. Espio gritted his teeth, noting that Charmy was much skinnier compared to when he was six. ]

"Vector, that guy- he's in a coma, right?"

"Uhmh.. Yeahh.."

"I've got good news for you.. People in comas have moments where their heart stops pretty frequently- it's just their bodies struggling to keep them alive. It's not a sign they're dying, no- they're just.." [ Espio is a horrible liar. ] "Fighting extra hard, so hard it's hurting their body. That big ol' crocodile is gonna come back to you, okay? Don't cry."

"Wh- really!? So- so he's okay, yeah? You're not being a mean-mean liar?!"

"I don't lie. Hey, look- got a smile there." [ Espio stood up after Charmy pulled away, smiling as earnestly as he possibly could. ] "Now, go play- do what you want.. Those two doctors? They're good at what they do. You don't have anything to worry about."

[ Charmy stood right in front of the headstone. His face was blank, his smile torn - eyes unfocused and bleary. ]

[ Underneath the surface, tentacles hungrily pulled apart Vector and consumed whatever they could. Rabid dogs who haven't feasted in years. ]

[ Three more meals were coming, more medical crises had sprouted throughout the day. ]

[ Another. ]

[ The blue blur whizzed up to Mecha's side, thwacking him on the shoulder playfully. He smiled, the best he could with the knowledge weighing on his shoulders. He flitted his eyes upward, narrowing them. ]

[ Letting something like that happen was the last thing he'd ever do - not even the last thing. He'd never let that happen. His friends are the highlights in each and every adventure - along with the action, they're the ones that make it worth something. People, individuals, with their obsessions or flaws - ]

[ Even if in his younger years he might've not been the most purely motivated white knight of all time - his friends were always there at the end of the day. They made all that time worth it. ]
