jesus christ disability stuff is hard to navigate
i have MS. legally i became disabled the second i received my diagnosis. i feel like i became disabled maybe like 6 months after i was diagnosed - thats when the symptoms / progressive started fucking up my ability to do daily tasks and my mobility.
access to work asking me why i don’t get a bus pass, can’t afford it, they won’t cover a bus pass but will fork out hundreds on taxis. but then on the access to work website i couldnt verify my identity for an online. because i don’t have a driver’s license (legally can’t) and the website didnt like my credit history (no clue why), i only had 1 form of ID (passport) which isn’t enough to set up an online account. so i have to print off manually request an invoice for every uber ride to / from work, email them to my work email, print them at work, and then get HR to sign every single piece of paper. then go to the post office, pay for postage, and send it all off. then wait 6-8 weeks to get my money back.
main problem is that i can’t afford to go 6-8 weeks without hundreds of pounds. i can’t afford to start the cycle.
so thats dead in the water - useless. i work from home most of the time now.
i applied for PIP in April 2025. it’s now June 2026. I scored 2 points and received a report back saying i have no issues with cooking and prepping food cuz i play video games with a controller which proves i have fine motor skills in my hands - i don’t even own a controller lmao. also claimed there’s no proof of my vision issues, despite a diagnosis, visible prisms, and lengthy letters about the impact on my life from my doctors (and yknow, the fact i can’t legally drive due to my vision)
in october 2025 i had my mandatory reconsideration and scored 6 points in daily living, with various stuff i said and backed up being refuted. i need 8 points.
cool. try again. i applied for tribunal. got asked to tell them all the dates i’m unavailable up until february 2026.
then…. crickets. i’m still waiting for tribunal.
and i can’t get a bus pass cuz i’m not on PIP. great.
and i cant get a nimbus access card, cuz i’m not on PIP and havent got letters regarding my mobility yet (i have diagnoses, but nothing to proof the impact on my mobility rip, and most doctors don’t write shit other than the diagnosis. and the DWP specifically says not to pay / go private for medical letters. the fuck do i do lol)
ive given up on the mobility side. i refuse to give up on the daily living side.
trying to think what else
idk. my mom was talking about disability benefits and she was saying i’m gonna have a breeze cuz i have such a serious condition and i’m smart / well educated and good at paperwork and organised and all that shit. i made sure to contact the MS Society for advice when applying, just in case.
it doesn’t matter. i s2g you can be so good at paperwork and someone who excelled academically and has organised folders for letters and bills. you can be the “perfect” disabled person
and they’ll still spit on you. the DWP will *still* make up random shit and lie to you.
