Said it before, will say it again: I think characterization is the weakest part of the Jackson LOTR films. Here are some amazing book characters who didn't make the cut (🎬🥁😅). I get that they couldn't include everyone, the storyline would just get too long and unwieldly for most modern viewers. But man is the absence felt 😮💨
Artists featured here noted in their respective works (Instagram handles). All asked permission to use. (It does take a little extra work, but really not that hard, just sayin' #artetiquette)
Fatty Bolger 🌿 held down the fort at Crickhollow, full on Paul Revere'ed re Nazgûl, and survived the Lockholes. Icon.
Halbarad ⚔️ gives us a glimpse of who regular Dunédain are (like, not the Heir of Isildur kind, I mean, lol). Brave and loyal. We love him.
Prince Imrahil 👑 Incredible warrior, wise *and* personable. Númenoréan Throwback (got that Elven Blood). Like!!!
Beregond 🗡️ so loved Faramir that he broke the law to protect him. Underscored the difference between law and integrity. What a guy. And the happy ending of getting to protect and serve Faramir in Ithilien. I can't!!
Bergil 🧒🏻 befriends Pippin when the little guy felt a bit alone in the city. Like Éowyn, badly wanted to serve and sacrifice for his people. Got a soft spot for him for sure.Ioreth 🤲🏻 my girl!! The embodiment of Celeborn's sentiment about "old wives' tales"; she has preserved ancient and important knowledge. Has dreams of a Gondor again rising. I love her chattiness too, nod nod.
Gildor 🎶 First Elf we encounter in the story...an encounter which also reveals a lot about Frodo and co imooo. Courteous, gentle, wise. (I mean, he's of Finrod's house!!)
Any idea who could have played these characters? Would love your idea below! 👇🏻
(PS Glorfindel not included...technically we did get him, as an extra basically lolol...would have loved more for sure!) 🌿⚔️🏹🐎💍📖🤓✨
