i am trying to catch up with one piece anime and i am watching episodes about kuma's past. and the whole story is honestly heartbreaking but the moment that made me lose my sanity was when ginny and kuma realise they are not hungry, for the first time in what feels like an eternity, and start crying. and the first thought i had was a quote from ursula k. le guin's tombs of atuan which i read a few weeks ago and haven't actually stopped thinking about: «she cried for the waste of her years in bondage to a useless evil. she wept in pain, because she was free». and it made me think about the burden of freedom on a soul that knew only chains for a long time. yes, it is wonderful to be able to be truly your own person but it is also tough as shit. it's doflamingo's speech about kids who have never seen war and kids who have never seen peace all over again, but this time it's those who never knew captivity and those who never felt free. how can you truly be yourself once you have freedom if you only remember yourself a slave?

i was reading the "execute order sixty-six" moment in the novelisation, my heart was being broken into pieces once again, and then cody said something along the lines of "well, couldn't this mysterious figure in black coat have phoned me like a minute before i gave obi wan his lightsaber back" and it had me in hysterics for like two minutes straight. because this guy was just given the order to execute his general, the chip in his head made him think it was his own decision but his first reaction was "okay, my jedi is strong though, what do i do". and then he was almost successful because cody is a professional. the whole situation is absurd, funny and heartbreaking, and when i stop laughing i'm gonna throw up.
