idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com

going through my bin of books i kept from all of my high school literature classes and reading my old annotations and feeling sentimental 😭 i’m so happy i’m gonna get to study literature again

after a year in college i’m considering becoming a double major in history and literature! i’m actually kinda excited about the idea because they’re both things i really love and it’s possible for me to finish in four years. i’m lined up to take like 3 literature course next semester because the options for history were pretty bare. but anyway. aaaaa :)

fun thing about king James, this guy was fairly public about his bf (more public than what was acceptable). He threw lots of extravagant parties with his man on his arm. It pissed off the church obviously so to get them off his back, he’s the one that ordered the third translation of the Bible from Hebrew to English (the King James Version aka the Authorized Version) so the Bible every hot blooded all American Christian reads today was literally just written so a very gay king could fuck his boyfriend in peace.
