i am at work atm but i am alive. like for a starter when i get back!
May just receive the other shoe to his face
AN EDGE HE HOPED to sharpen had he got the tools for such a fatiguing exercise ( delineate a mental note: ask watson ). surely the minor surgery would temporarily shatter the vainness adeptly portrayed in the accounts of abstruse cases which he avidly accompanies with utmost absorption && disregard to the logical process residing therein.
PERHAPS KEY NOTION: ‘ P R O B A B I L I T Y ‘ THIS WAS VENGEANCE [ served in a small plate, of course. ] for all the erroneous tales written so carelessly in the sentimentality of the author’s puerile artistry.
disregarding threatening impulses && diligences - two peculiarities he had grown accustomed with - overtaking physical efforts in the recovery of medical equipment, holmes rose from his perch, immediately reaching for the cherry-wood pipe upon the rack, filling && refiling the disputatious weapon with the right amount of the strongest tobacco he managed to withdraw from the Persian slipper before finally lighting it. blue clouds of smoke curled up around sharp features, chasing distinct paths as they strike the ceiling in their last moments.
❛ perhaps you have brought this upon yourself, old man. ❜
“--I brought this upon myself?” A supercilious arch of his brow accompanied the disbelief and indignation in his voice.
Temper that he’d worked so hard to clamp down upon over the years of being in the same flat as the Great Detective--pardon, the Great Consulting Detective--strained to the surface once more in the form of an angry flush beginning at his thick neck and rising past his mustache to his cheeks.
The next pile of miscellanea was tossed aside with more force than necessary, causing a temporary dislodgment of yet another pile, which toppled noisily across what little space he had cleared.
Not that Watson was looking down at the carpet anymore. His eyes were steadily upon the man shrouding himself with blue smoke at the mantlepiece as suspicion crept past the anger and came to the forefront of his displeased expression.
“Where did you put my scalpel, Holmes?” There was not a doubt in his mind that his friend (if one could call him such during these moments) had his much-needed tool and was childishly keeping it away from him.

Holmes
In spite of the maddening habit ( whose nature was strictly DEBATABLE ), && the snicker repressed by the curvature of a mild sneer upon - what appeared to be - motionless lips, holmes’ intentions were by no means cruel. the untidiness which he came to regularly surround himself with, however, had taken an unrivalled calibre. the convivial surroundings had suffered an accumulation of newspapers, books && cutlery as he leans back luxuriously against the lonesome island in a sea of disarray.
❛ i assure you that i know nothing of it. ❜
the scalpel’s advent had been foreseen the instant it was settled upon holmes’ palm.
“Holmes...” There was an edge of warning in the good doctor’s voice, his eyes narrowing with suspicion that was not entirely unfounded, given his friend’s history of vexing him.
He reached over, uncovering yet another patch of carpet before trying for the chairs instead. His movements were impatient and jerky as pile after pile was overturned without a single glimpse of his medical implement.
“If I discover that you are hiding my medical equipment on purpose...” the threat lingered in the air between the relaxed detective and the irate doctor, making it apparent just how little patience he had left about the state of their sitting room, to say nothing of his missing scalpel.

“--I disappoint myself. I was aiming for your face.” There it was, that pawky sense of humour Holmes occasionally remarked upon.
With a grunt, he got up from where he knelt, toeing aside some more paper detritus to examine the floor beneath with a frown.
“Are you certain you have not seen my scalpel under all this?” He should have known better than to lend it to Holmes.

“Listen, Doctor-” The way she said the word could have been compared to a cobra coiling to strike. “-Your concern is touching, really, but I have this handled. Kindly turn around and walk away, I’d hate it if you suffered his same fate.” It was said with a deadly coyiness as her fingers spun the dial on her watch, STUN showing clearly only to her with her HUD.
“...” He did not know what she was doing with her watch, but from the looks of things, his instincts told him nothing good could come out of standing his ground.
So he quickly took a step back, holding out his arms in surrender.
“Fine, I’ll be on my way,” he promised, taking several more steps back. “We never saw one another.”
“Well there is.” Her hands stilled and she looked at him thoughtfully, curious as if to whither or not he was a threat. “Go on, this not a matter for you.” Her hand slipped to her watch, as if she were to check the time.
“...” She looked dangerous and he should back out. But there was still the matter of the case he was helping Holmes on. He was, unfortunately, a man of his word.
“Actually, it is. You see, I am a doctor. I am obligated to at least check to see if anything can be down for this poor fellow.”

Sherlock’s interest instantly peeks and he straightens in his chair, his laptop now completely ignored in his lap.
“Although I may not agree with your reasoning, the result is greatly appreciated.” He waves a hand ,although he doesn’t falter in his stance. “Yet, the biggest problem with that is we haven’t been presented with one.”
“Well, there is always calling your brother or Lestrade for something interesting.” He knew that suggestion would be thrown right out the window, given Holmes’s pride.
“Or we could scour the classifieds for something of interest.”
Mrs Hudson had already busied herself with tidying the carnage that Holmes had left in his wake after he had finished emptying the books from the shelves of the flat in response to whatever had upset him this time.
“Oh, don’t be silly,” she said, lining a few of the books back onto their place on the shelves “I’ve been doing this since the day he moved into this place.” She dampened her lips, looking back to Watson with a small smile “what’s got him all worked up this time then?”
“His brother,” Watson replied, bending down to pick up a few more papers, despite Mrs. Hudson’s insistence that she could handle the clutter.
“He did not tell me what, but it seemed like a family matter.”
A simple shrug and a nod from the detective before he went back to his violin, picking at the strings with short notes of boredom. Perhaps a bit of harsh ferocity towards his anger of the currently low crime rates.
The lull in conversation was sadly to come to an end quicker than the either of them expected. While leaning against the kitchen counter, Watson received a text, which he initially was relieved to receive until he noted the sender.
“Holmes,” he began slowly, lifting his eyes to look at his bored flatmate. “It’s your brother. Shall I forward it to you?”
As Poole stepped forward to assist Watson in bringing the man inside, Dr. Jekyll stepped back, turned aside, and slipped off in search of his medical bag. It was something of a relief to have this task: it gave him, at the very least, an excuse to quit his colleague’s presence and attempt to compose himself, which he set about hurriedly the moment he was out of sight. With firm conviction, he wiped away every visible trace of the surprise and panic that had stamped themselves across his countenance; and it was only once he was sure that he could act normally that he returned to the parlor, bag in hand, to sit beside the groaning man.
“Do you know what has happened to him?” he asked Watson calmly. Naturally, he had no real need to ask that: he could recall, in vivid detail, inflicting every one of these wounds himself; but for the sake of appearances, he put the question to Watson nonetheless.
“I cannot be sure. The gentleman was insensible by the time I reached him.”
Watson took off his coat and undid his cufflinks as he spoke, the very picture of an concerned, professional physician.
“It appears he was beaten by a very blunt implement multiple times. I can tell there are multiple fractures and internal bleeding. We may need to remove his clothing in order to see the full extent of the damage.”
SHARING AN ENTHUSIASM with a bohemian meddler for all that was bizarre could enrage even the most harmonious of Llamas in the tranquil valley of Lhasa ( as holmes, himself, may testify to it ). if the subtlety of sensations - such as the aforementioned example - was to thwart abrupt R E Q U E S T (or was it a TEST) he would not be frustrated nor aggravated. WHO KNEW? perhaps the good doctor had acquired a particular aptitude in the paramount field of inferences && D E T E C T I O N, which, for a MAN who had once deemed it all as ineffable twaddle, was an astonishing feat!
holmes listened intently to his companion’s presumptions as to whom owned the grungy pair of gloves. keep eyes observed as arms extended to welcome what another’s gaze perceived; watching as the luminescent light refused from being T A K E N elsewhere for its sole guide were its footsteps. he was emerging as an additional ATOM whose nature was animated rather than lethargic.
the details were mere windows of an overcrowded street, in a more overcrowded W O R L D. pawns strolling aimlessly along the pathway in a repetitious, eternal motion, acquiescing the REALITY of windows WITHOUT PAYING ATTENTION to them. && if they did, one of two outcomes would be granted.
WERE THEIR FINDINGS COMPATIBLE WITH THE FACTS OR WERE THEY PURELY ILLUSIONS WROUGHT BY AN AMATEUR’S BRAIN?
❛ bravo, watson! ❜ came his guttural exclamation, ❛ you have excelled yourself the power of observation is truly intoxicating!
Watson’s first instinct was to smile at the compliment. His second was one of suspicion. The result was a look of wariness rather than pleasure when he set aside the gloves, resisting the urge to toss them at Holmes.
After so many years, he could count the amount of times Holmes genuinely complimented him and his abilities in the field of deduction by...well, a finger, if that.
“What did I miss?” he asked impatiently, arms folded over his chest. He knew he missed something, if not everything. He only hoped that he had been right about the dried blood inside. It would be embarrassing for him to muck that up as a doctor.

“Believe it or not, this has nothing to do with Sherlock. My employer - yes, I do technically have one - has expressed interest in a piece being written about me. I am opposed to the idea, of course. They want you to write it. If I didn’t call, they would have.”
“...” Watson blinked, taken aback by the reply. He had been so certain it was about Sherlock that it never occurred to him that Mycroft would be asking him to do a favour that centred upon the other Holmes brother.
“And I take it that whatever I write will be extensively edited by your people?” He didn’t like the sound of that, though if Mycroft or his employer provided Watson the right sort of incentive...he might consider putting his talents up for the task.
“Lets hope so, because I’d hate to think I’ve wasted my time,” James agreed. He wasn’t sure how much stock he put in the rumours about the man’s abilities anyway, but if he were truly as good at solving cases as purported then James would like to see him in action. He glanced over the mess of papers with a critical eye. “Really? I was going to guess a mini tornado passed through,” he answered dryly. “Tea would be nice, thank you.” At least Holmes seemed to be living up to his reputation as an eccentric, if the man’s flat was anything to go by. He turned his attention to Watson again. “How long have you working with Sherlock Holmes? Just out of curiosity.”
Too long, had been his first answer, though he swallowed that while he put on the kettle for tea. Instead, he replied, “A few years.”
Negotiating past the papers for the cups and the earl grey was a feat done quickly only from very extensive practice and knowledge of Holmes’s untidy habits. Thankfully the cups were clean, though he still rinsed them again just in case.
“He is eccentric, but brilliant,” he added. “He takes on only cases he believes will challenge his intellect.” Which had been a heated point of contention between him and Holmes many a time, particularly when it came time to pay the rent.
