Watch set into a single Colombian emerald crystal, circa 1600; the watch is part of the Cheapside Hoard, a cache of jewels and jewelry buried since the Great Fire of London in 1666 and rediscovered in 1912.
More from the Hoard here, here, and here.

Finding Magic in Everyday Occurrences with @thelittlethings_love
To see more of Corla’s photos celebrating the love for life, follow @thelittlethings_love on Instagram.
(This interview was conducted in German.)
The venturesome flight of a ladybug, a pleasant shadow cooling the skin, the touching lightheartedness of children playing – Corla Schöner’s (@thelittlethings_love) photographs are like a love song to life. And for her, everyday moments are the melody. “They are pure, fragile and at the same time so incredibly strong that they soak our thick skin and, if we allow it, get up in our soul,” says the special education teacher from Frankfurt, Germany.
Corla lets her images tell little fairy tales beyond words, taking the viewer on a journey. “I think that photography can be a way to reach this well-protected and often hidden place within ourselves. A place that not only shelters our desires and fears, but at the same time is the place where our individual freedom, joy and creativity is born.”
Sending Letters of Beauty with #envelope_series
For more from Anna’s envelope series, follow @annaremarchuk and browse the #envelope_series hashtag on Instagram.
Not long after Kiev-based photographer Anna Remarchuk (@annaremarchuk) found a bunch of old envelopes that belonged to her great-grandfather, she received a gift of snowdrops in the post. “At the table there were those envelopes. I saw them together and decided to make a photo,” she says. The simple combination gave birth to a new creative project — the #envelope_series.
Anna buys the flowers or receives them as gifts, then looks at the colors and tones of the envelope paper and the natural beauty of the flowers before shooting her pairings on her phone. “During the process I forget about all, because I am in love with what I do,” she says. “I want my followers to be able to understand my flowers’ message without any words.”
Meet @themertailor: The Karl Lagerfeld of the Underwater World
To see more of Eric’s colorful mermaid tails, follow @themertailor on Instagram.
Using garbage bags and duct tape, Eric Ducharme (@themertailor) created his first mermaid tail at age seven, inspired by watching the underwater mermaid shows at Florida’s Weeki Wachee Springs. “From the first moment I saw a ‘real live mermaid,’ I knew I was going to be doing something for the rest of my life that involved mermaids,” Eric remembers.
His grandmother taught him how to sew, and, aiming for a realistic looking tail, he started experimenting with different materials like spandex and rubber. “For me it was all about trial and error,” Eric says. “My weekly allowances went to making mermaid tails!” Now, 17 years later, Eric runs his own business, producing handcrafted mermaid tails for a living. Between sculpting, mold-making, airbrushing and answering emails from clients in Australia, Eric says there’s never a dull moment being a ‘mertailor.’ “It is quite the day, I have to tell you!”

@pechanga and Millie, the Rock Climbing Cat
For more of Craig’s photos with Millie follow @pechanga on Instagram.
Hello, Instagram! Welcome to a special edition of #WeeklyFluff.
Every Thursday night, Craig Armstrong (@pechanga) checks the weather and decides on a destination for the weekend rock climb with his cat, Millie. “Millie has a customized kitty harness, a cord for her leash and locking carabiners,” says Craig, a marketing manager from Salt Lake City, Utah. “When I start taking all that gear out, she knows it well. She gets really still and lets me slide the harness onto her.” Together, they explore and climb some of the most beautiful crags, boulders and slot canyons in the southwestern United States. “There are a few summits I want to accomplish with Millie, but having really fun, stress-free weekends climbing with her, that’s what I love.”
Craig and Millie are often joined by Zac Robinson (@zacdoesmath) and his cat Kenneth, (@herekennykenny). “Zac is a longtime climbing partner, and we talked about taking our cats out on trips with us,” says Craig. “We started finding easy climbs that we could do while having the cats attached to our harnesses so they would be protected if they fell.”
Recently, Craig and Millie have tried a few slot canyons and found that they’re ideal for “catting” — the nickname Craig has given his climbing adventures with Millie. “Slot canyons are like deep gashes in the earth with 200-foot (61-meter) walls on both sides that are about eight inches (20 cm) wide at some points,” says Craig. “There’s a ton of little downclimbs, rappels, water features, little obstacles that you have to figure out. You realize two hours into it that you haven’t thought of anything else.”
