How is it possible Souichi to be a assistant professor at only 28? Or do I misremember his job title. I worked in university laboratories like him and the people around me were from multiple western countries and it was basically impossible to even do a post doctorate before 28. Usually it goes you start university at 17/18, do a bachelor and master that take 3+1 or 3+2 years so best case scenario you are 21/22 when you finish higher education. Then a PhD is 4 years, so you would be 25/26. And that is best case scenario when you didn’t spend months or years looking for a PhD or postdoc. And then doing postdocs takes 1,2,3 years each, people do multiple before getting a professorship and most people only get a higher position with a “professor” title in their mid 30s earliest. I think most of the assistant or full professors I met were all near or above 40. Is it just a wonder child thing specifically for the manga or is that actually possible in Japan? I thought everything academic and professional is actually harder to achieve in countries like Japan that is why I am asking

To get a doctorate in Japan is a 4 year bachelor's program a 2 year master's program and a 3 year PhD program.
He would have started at 18 and graduated at 27. He had just started post doc and they just threw him straight into teaching which is unusual but I think it's technically possible... but that's why everyone was shocked he was being offered the position to begin with and the class was shocked he was only just turning 28.
Everyone I know tells me it's hard to get into Japanese universities, but once you're in it's stupid easy.... and Japanese society doesn't think anything of master's or PhDs at all... I've heard so many Japanese people say it's pointless to even get them lol
