Ok so my ocs will still almost die and have visions of the afterlife, but heres a twist--a few decades prior the story, a virus had spread through the entire world.. Some scientist's experiment escaped or something, infecting others around it. Sort of like a zombie apocalypse

Except that ppl dont turn into super violent hungry creatures against their will. The only thing that changed was that they're immortal. EVERYONE'S IMMORTAL. At first, the world rejoices. Their grandmas and grandpas live well over the age of 200, people with chronic diseases have increased live expectancy, and mothers dont have to worry about giving birth to a stillborn.

Everyone lives

And the population keeps increasing

Some people turn violent against each other, having no fear of going too far, since their victims would always regenerate

Basic necessities skyrocket, cuz even if you don't eat, you'll survive. Increased labour hours, since you won't die of exhaustion

This becomes the norm when Calleen and Nikolai are born. Nikolai is the 12 kid of his family of 30, his parents really love each othee lmao. Willoughbys style kinda family. Him and his siblings are all super malnourished but some of the older siblings do their best to earn money. Nikolai and his older sibling(they/them) Evelen(pronounced evelyn) are more particularly close, ppl like to jokr that they are twins. Evelen and Calleen are in the same classes so thats how Calleen knows Nikolai, she kind of cares for him like a sister bec he's her friend's "precious baby brother"(in evelen's words haha)
