anyway when people say consent takes them out of a story, it makes me think of the number of times i've closed out of a fic because someone just shoved fingers up somewhere without asking. there's no one way to appeal to everyone i guess.

When I’m reading smut and the author breaks the flow of the story so that the characters can tell us that they have enthusiastic consent it feels exactly like when Dora the Explorer looks directly into the camera and says ‘Seat belts so we can be safe!’ anytime she gets into a motorized vehicle.

#i disagree. i think unless the dynamic is deliberately fucked up then clear consent is nice #i think the issue is most people don't know what consent looks like #(not that this attitude is entirely to blame...)#but even just nodding. or saying 'yes' without the question asked. that counts.#or begging!#character a telling/asking character b what they want or plan to do to them. or what they want done.#smiling while following orders is also a fine one.#taking just a quick second to ask 'is this ok?' or 'do you like that?' 'is that good?' 'how's that feel?' 'can i?'#sure we don't need to always break out safe words and stoplight systems but #these are all ways to establish explicit consent without interrupting the action or making it unsexy. imo #and i think modeling it in writing is only a good thing

i been working at a pace of like. two sentences a day. but hey, at least it's more than no sentences.
