Her opening salvo made him laugh.  In general, the ancient vampire was far more accustomed to bowing and scraping as an introduction, and favorable as he found this, there was something refreshing about her obvious and, to his mind rather quaint, disapprobation of him.  Disapproval wasn’t something he’d had to deal with very often in centuries, and coupled with the juxtaposition of her incredulity at seeing him at a place which he frequented and she did not, he was greatly amused.

Pulling up alongside her, he parked his car.  Hers was…a sad affair, very depressing, really, but if he were honest, he considered most ordinary vehicles this way.  If it did not contain inherent style, like his midnight maserati, he mostly found it to be a depressing affair.  Someone had made the mistake of showing him their brand new Mercedes just yesterday and, genuinely moved by the sad state of affairs, he had offered not congratulaions, but condolences in an occasion upon he had – for once – insulted someone entirely by accident.

“What’s this?” he replied, favoring her with a wicked grin.  “Amelia, I must ask: what is your purpose in coming to a den of sin, if you’ve no notion of taking part?  To answer your question: that is my purpose in coming.”  Smirking, as he was confident she thoroughly believed this was the case, Will quirked a brow.  “But now I can see what you’re doing here: breaking down.  I must say, you have a deliciously wicked sense of humor.  I can’t think of anything old Alexander would find more distasteful than having such a desolate clunker broken down out front of his house.  Really, Mia,” he purred.  “Are you attempted to destroy his social standing?  If so, I have to say, I’ll leave here today with more respect for your devious nature than I came here with: it could work.”  His grin was lascivious.  “Diabolical.”

Exiting the vehicle in a single graceful motion, he crossed in front of her, and seated himself in her passenger seat.  Glancing around himself with curiosity, he wrinkled his nose slightly.  “What?  No champagne?  God, what’s the point of driving?  Really, you lot are difficult to understand.”  ‘You lot,’ was, in this case, humanity.

Reaching up, he unlatched her visor, curious to see if anything would fall out at him.  He’d heard of mortals leaving valuable items such as keys hidden there for reasons that truly baffled him.  They were such curious creatures.  But what he was really looking for, now, was vervaine.  Next, he opened her glove box.  “Why all the napkins?” he asked, pulling out a tuft to peer behind them.  “Tell me, Mia, have you a stash of…herbs in here?  I am, I confess, intrigued to learn more or your lifestyle.”  It probably sounded like he was looking for drugs, but he had no idea.  He was focused, and he hadn’t been human in seven centuries.

“I’m looking for Nick.” Have you seen him? went unsaid. She doubted he knew and, if he did, she suspected that he wouldn’t just give over that information without anything in return. She didn’t have any basis for this assumption, except for the slightly other-worldly aura that seemed to cling to William Stark. Like he was someone out of a fairytale who would give her what she wanted for a price that ultimately wasn’t worth paying.

Not to mention that she did not trust him and certainly didn’t want to owe him a thing. She wasn’t quite so desperate to find Nick that she was willing to entertain the idea of asking for Will’s help.

Despite herself, she gave him a half-smile when he asked her if she had purposefully broken down her car in front of the Alexander mansion to spite the master of it. She hadn’t had many run-ins with him, herself, but she’d certainly heard enough of Nick and Lucy’s horror stories to almost make her wish she had done it intentionally.

Almost. 

“It wasn’t my intention, but imagining him freaking out over it does make it a little less frustrating. I -- “ Just as quickly her smile faded as Will took the liberty of sliding into her passenger seat and began to rummage around in her car. “Hey, what the hell? What are you doing? Get out of there!” 

She slammed the glove compartment closed before he could finish looking through it (not that it held anything private -- some napkins, the owner’s manual, and a half chewed pencil that had belonged to the previous owner)  -- but rather that he had the audacity to pilfer through her things.

“Seriously?!”

Mia’s car would not start. She was used to this -- it was becoming more and more unreliable -- but she wished that it had picked literally any other location to break down than the driveway of the Alexander Estate.

Showing up unannounced at the Alexander residence was never advised (in fact both Nick and Lucy had explicitly told her to avoid their home at all costs), but there had been another animal attack and Mia was worried. Her correspondence with Nick had been shaky at best since he’d come back and while it was no longer uncommon for it to be days before he’d respond to her texts, she realized this morning that she hadn’t heard from him since the attack and just wanted to make sure he was alright.

She’d first gone to Nate’s place, but no one was there. Nate wasn’t answering her either (which wasn’t odd since his old cell was dead half the time and struggled to get service the rest of it) and only after she’d checked all of their usual haunts had she decided to check his house.

No one was at home today at Nick’s place either, except Violet, who had seemed irritated that Mia had disrupted her afternoon with the news that she hadn’t heard from Nick in days. She couldn’t even be bothered to ask their father if he had either. Mia hadn’t taken kindly to Violet’s indifference of the situation and when she’d made a remark that they were all better off when he was gone, Mia had lost her temper.

Storming out of the house lost part of its effect when she realized her car would not start. She certainly had too much pride to go back up to the house and ask for help (she guessed the Alexanders probably had a mechanic on site at all times for such occasions) but she also realized that that meant she had to stick around until Chris could get to her -- and since he was working, she didn’t know how long that would be.

She was still in an irritable mood when a luxury car pulled up behind her and Will Stark stepped out.

“Oh god, what are you doing here?”

Eeeee Lizzy I’m so excited for this fam!

Honestly I feel like Mia’s life probably gives Vee hives lol. Like just going off into the world without a plan? Absolutely not for Veronica Wilson! And I’m sure maybe when they were younger, Vee was probably VERY outwardly critical of the way Mia was choosing to lead her life, but I do think now that has definitely passed. Probably some of that came from Veronica taking stepping into the “maternal” role EXTREMELY seriously (mostly due to needing a way to avoid dealing with tragedy but that’s another story for a therapist lol)

However that doesn’t mean Vee isn’t still trying to plan every last detail of everything for her (and the whole family) now that Mia is back in town! 

And there is no way Vee is NOT living in that house with the rest of her siblings! Listen– someone has to meal prep and make sure the bills are paid. ;) I could definitely see Veronica constantly talking about how she is going to find her own apartment, but I don’t think anything has ever come of it. Honestly— she probably is a bit fearful of being alone? And even though her siblings are out all over the place often she feels safe there.

aslkfjlsafj I honestly love how these two just dealt with their parents death in completely different ways!!! I saw this tik tok the other day that reminded me of them - it was a mom with her two daughters. One was pulled together and the other was dressed like a hot dog and the captain was “I’m raising two very different girls” alskdfjlafj

haha I do think that there was probably ~some tension in that area when Mia was younger (see her stubborn teenage years lmao) but I do think she sometimes finds Veronica’s habits now to be helpful sometimes (mia @ vee: thanks for always having an itemized grocery store list I can follow!!!! -- although you know she’s also going to spring for some junk food that looks good that is not on the list)

I feel like Mia is kinda in the same place??? Part of her thinks that maybe she should go out on her own, but I think she’s also a little emotionally co-dependent on her siblings at this point w/o realizing it ... plus, I feel like whenever she manages to save up enough money for a deposit on an apartment, something happens like her car breaks down or she goes and spends it on traveling or something w/o realizing it is going to completely drain her finances #whoops

Chris locked his arms around his sister, grinning as he pulled her into a bear hug.  Her happy laughter was a balm and his responded, instinctive, as he staggered a half-step back from the force of her affection.

“You saying hi, or trying to injure me, here?” he teased, planting a kiss on her temple before stepping back and heaving his bag over his shoulder again.  It was a trick of his, this: playing off something that had given him some joy like it was all a big joke.

As soon as they were through the door, he let the pack his the ground (though not too hard – God knew they didn’t need anything breaking loose and going off – and immediately made a bee line for the kitchen.  She wasn’t wrong in her reasoning: Chris had a tendency to get wrapped up in what he was doing and forget to eat, meaning that he was nearly always ravenous…especially because he really loved food.

Hearing the familiar question, he smiled softly.  “You might be surprised,” he said.  “I mean, I don’t know how long it’ll actually take but…I got a job right here in town…” he paused, realizing they wouldn’t see anything go up, since he didn’t really work construction.  “Or…you know…near enough that I can live here, again, while it’s going down.  Or, rather,” he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck.  “Going up, I guess.”

He wore a smile, but for all that, what he felt was something else entirely, a kind of horror.  It sounded for all the world like a vampire, everyone agreed, but it was never a good idea to jump to conclusions.  He’d learned that early on.  “Still not one hundred percent sure what it is, to be honest.  But I’m sure I’ve got enough experience, now, to tackle whatever comes.”  If it was a vamp…a vamp in Hidden Falls…God, what if it was the same one?  What if it was the same monster that’d killed their parents?  Theo had warned him against thinking this way, but the truth was he couldn’t help it.  How was he supposed to banish a thought like that?  No matter how little its M.O. lined up with their orphan maker.

He shook himself.  “Anyway, got some research to do before I nail everything down…but once that’s done, I’ll hopefully have a better sense of how long I get to stay home.”

He smiled as he breathed in.  “God, Mia, that smells heavenly.  Can I go ahead and ask for an extra large helping?  I wanna eat my full weight in that.”  Laughing as she spoke of their childhood meals, he shook his head.  “Hey, knowing exactly how long to microwave something just by looking at a box is a very valuable skill, especially in my line of work.  Do you know how many seconds I’ve saved, not reading the cooking directions…and how many minutes I’ve wasted when I inevitably made a mistake?  Because I most certainly don’t.”

Reaching into the cupboard while she saw to the food, he began getting out the plates and silver; filling their cups.  “So…I hear there’s been some…upset by Baker Bridge*, huh?  What’s going on, exactly?”

Mia laughed, realizing she might have been a little aggressive in her greeting. “Can’t it be both?” She teased, “I only meant to cause a slight injury, though. Something just severe enough to keep you home from work.”

The kitchen was one of Mia’s favorite rooms in the house: she loved that it was bright and airy with huge windows that had a peaceful view of the trees outside. But more than that, it had been a central location when the six of them had lived here together. It opened out into the living room and looked out on the backyard and their mom had been able to keep an eye on her four wild children from this spot behind the counter. Mrs. Wilson had loved to bake and their dad had made some updates to the kitchen soon before they had died. It was the room their mom said she loved the most and the one that had gone completely unchanged since.

She grabbed a bowl from the top shelf as they headed into the kitchen. (Mia was the tallest Wilson girl and, as such, she and Will strictly used the bowls from the higher shelves so Emma wouldn’t have to try to climb up on the counters just to get one down -- something Mia loved to tease her sister about).

“I guess I should be content with the fact that your job is in town, this time.” She added, spooning the sauce over the noodles, “I hope it means you get to stick around for awhile.”

The most he’d ever been home since he started working was six days in a row. He often thought he’d be able to stay longer, but some panicked call from work always seemed to interrupt his vacation home and he’d be out the door again.

“You know you work way too much, right?”

She pushed the bowl across the counter towards him. “Seconds! My god, you must be the most efficient guy they have on staff.” She teased, crossing her arms, “Especially since it sounds like you work through lunch - did I mention you work too much?”

It didn’t surprise her when the next thing out of Chris’s mouth was to ask her about the deaths out by Baker’s Bridge. Anytime there was a minor threat to his sister’s safety, he was there to check up on it. It was one of the reasons that his homecoming hadn’t been a total surprise. He never was able to stay home long, but whenever anything remotely dangerous seemed to be happening, he always seemed to find a way to get assigned to a job within driving distance of the house.

“Honestly? I don’t really know.” Her tone was serious now.“There are all kinds of rumors: everything from some kind of wild animal to a deranged serial killer. All I know is that none of the people who died seemed to have any connection expect their location. At least, that seems to be what everyone is saying. I know the police are still looking into it.“

honestly, mia is rigHT!!!! he is an asshole!!!!!!  i do think that the wilsons do have some defences against him that he’s not used to bc chris probs has them all on vervaine, and that’s probs esp intriguing to him bc they seem soooo oblivious, so i feel like the wilsons are a mystery will’s eager to solve (like, obv someone’s dosing them, but who – cue will and violet teaming up to figure chris out in future before violet sic’s chris on her lil bro ;DDD jk jk) 

(also not me over here getting emotional on nick’s behalf bc mia wants good things for him and doesn’t like how violet treats him and nick’s not used to someone caring at all like that ahhhhhhhh only mia and nate got his back in the realest ways alsdkjafljsdfljk but this is smth will does not give a flying fig about so aslkdjfldsfkdsf shifting gears)

will out here making even the nicest ppl (mia and veronica) hate his guts <3 alksjflkjsdfjdsf no but!!!!!! weirdly this is a mark of pride for him?????? but also one of annoyance????? yeahh he is a weird guy idk what to tell you but like…as you know he has a delusional vampiric superiority complex and a lot of that is based in the fact that he can – and does – literally order humans around so it seems only logical to him that vamps are superior…but then there’s this clan that have no clue that they’re chatting up a god on earth and they just treat him like??? normal???? and don’t realize what he is????? at the same time???? and its both as annoying and as endearing as it would be if you were out in the woods and this little rabbit bounded up to you and started like following you around and trying to socialize with you??? when you came out to this forest to make rabbit stew???? and all the weird complex feelings that would emerge from an experience like that bc they clearly aren’t hunters or vamps or supes and its just????????? wild oalskjdfalkjsdfkj and he’s def asked violet if ~she’s the one dosing them and the other alexanders and its just…so weird??? but like a lil refreshing too????? anyway will’s head is a weird place idk what to tell you

ngl I accidentally read the last paragraph first when skimming comments and was so confused as to the “did the rabbit just tell me what to do?” question asldfjalfjlfj but omg somehow it is befitting that the wilson girls are to will what bunnies are to humans lmaoooo

yessss! omg I hadn’t even thought of that tbh but I can actually see where Violet ~would~ also have given Veronica a friendship necklace or bracelet or something that had vervaine in it so she a) knows that other vamps can’t take advantage of her and b) b/c she likes knowing that their friendship is also genuine and she doesn’t accidentally take advantage of her so there is a very real chance that veronica has a double dosage of it without anyone realizing aljflsajfljf

however! as far as the other siblings go, violet wouldn’t care enough about them to do anything like that for them, so tbh her first thought would be that maybe nick had something to do with it re: amelia and because he’s ~weak~ maybe he go the whole fam involved too but I also think that she would want to discover, for certain, who it was b/c she does like to know who is in the know about these things for obvious reasons!!!

“Oh my god! You’re home!”

Chris had hardly had the chance to walk in the door before Mia was there to greet him with a hug. She realized that it had, perhaps, been a tad aggressive and if he hadn’t been so strong, she might have knocked him over (but thankfully, Chris was used to heavier things than Mia trying to knock him down).

“For good, right?” She knew that, even as she asked it, that it would only be temporary. Truth be told, she had been surprised that Chris had taken this job at all: as it frequently took him far from home. However, the money was good (it had been impossible to turn down when he was supporting all three of his sisters). But she sometimes hoped that maybe he’d find something a little closer to home.

“Do you want something to eat? I’ve been making some spaghetti and, I gotta tell you, it’s definitely step up from that canned stuff we used to eat as kids.” She was teasing him, but affectionately so (when Chris was in charge, it was fast food or take out, most nights, and when it wasn’t it was something canned, frozen, or prepared).

“How long are you going to be home? Do you know?”

omgggg them meeting in school like that is so preshhhh esp bc he was def the loner kid and would’ve gone on being that if she hadn’t pushed in <3  it was just him and nate and the wolf who sometimes was there instead that nick had apparently also named nate jk jk (nick saying he can’t hang out on full moon nights bc he has to ‘dog sit’ ;alsjfsfj ;D)

anyway, it sounds like nick maybe knew the wilson parents, if they met that early on, too?  if so, he was def big time there for her when her parents died <3 i mean, he had no clue what its like to lose a family member bc he literally never had (just ask his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great aunt petronilla) and he def didn’t know what it’s like to lose a loved one but he knew she was hurting and he knew that he couldn’t just abandon her!!!!! i do think he at first avoided her bc he was like ‘she doesn’t want the burden of me’ or whatever but then of course he went to the funeral and she hugged him or said smth or whatever and he was like ‘oh wait i misread that’ and then he was there big time <33333333  he probs did know that it must’ve been a vamp which was probs…uhhhh…complicated but alsdkfjaklsjdf he wasn’t about to share that tidbit tbh anyway that probs just underscored to him at the time that he didn’t wanna be one so!!!! that’s cool!!!

omg!!!!!!! bb!mia dragging bb!nick out to fairs and stuff lakjsdklfjsjkf def not envisioning [ this ] adslkfjkdlsjfjs (minus the relatives bit yikes) and that equals nick getting to hang w the wilson fam for a hot second and im!!!!!! so!!!! emotional!!!!! nick after a night of wilson!style revels in the park, probs: ‘this is…fake, right???? families aren’t actually supposed to…like e/o, right??????’ nothing more fulfilling than making him do smth he says he doesn’t wanna do alksdjflkjsdfjklf but honestly!!!!!!!!! and tbh he always has fun as long as she’s there and he can be his best self w her and forget the bad and <33333333 (cue when she invites him to thanksgiving, chris vs nick with the wishbone gets a lil too heated) and honestly his life is super enriched on top of that too bc he’s seen so many movies and mountain views he never would have if it weren’t for her <3

lkjasjfkkjlsdkfjsdf ok so *cracks knuckles* the whole thing w his mom!!!!!!!!!!!! is so!!!!!! complicated!!!!!! and i do think honesty esp w her is super important to him (bc again best self!!!!) and so that death was also super alienating to him!!!!! plus, he’s not really hearing anything she’s saying bc he’s just hearing the blood in her veins!!!! and the things he ~is hearing are just underscoring everything that’s worst and yeshhhhhh he woulda pulled away big time on sooooo many levels!!!!! he was convincing himself that he’d just lied to himself that they could ever be friends!!!!!! plus, he’s highkey rejecting everything that’s best abt himself bc he just can’t hold up under the strain of it all and so he def can’t be near her and lakjsfkjdf plus his mom literally murdered him!!!! and if that’s not traumatic enough, his dad then murdered his mom!!!!! so!!!!! it’s a loT!!!! and the fact that he recovered from the murder does noT make it any less such emotionally speaking esp bc this was smth he didn’t want alkjsdfjdsfkdjsf plus obv his mom did ~not get better so just lots to unpack there emotionally that he hasn’t even started on yknow and now he’s trying to protect her from himself and he’s trying to protect any slice of humanity he might have left and its just a loT!!!!!! so he just really wasn’t in any way shape or form in the headspace for any of that, plus on top of that he had all the more ordinary grief issues to deal with lksjdfljksdfj and of course as we know he ended up distancing himself entirely after awhile too

obsessively looking for him!!!!!! bb girllll nooooo!!!!! tbf, i think he abandoned his phone etc when he ~went so he didn’t see any of those messages till he got back but even if he had seen them i don’t think he was really in a place to deal w any of that he was just tailspinning in the worst way (and off on a murder spree adventure!) tbh he totes gets why she’s angry – he’s angry too – but he also can’t give her any answers, and he knows how frustrating that is bc he wants some answers too and frankly theyll never arrive and ~he still knows far more than she does, and like w nate he could unload it all etc but w her????? he can’t really tell her anything other than ‘my mom is dead’ which she already knew, he can’t even promise that itll never happen again so part of him is like ‘i should just break things off forever instead of putting her through this again’ and part of him needs his connection w her more than ever and can’t bear to set it on fire and lajdsflkjdsljf its a lot!!!!!! and tbh im not even sure where any of this leaves them at present but aldskjfkjsdf yeahhh

tbh, I’m not sure where this leaves them at present either! I feel like Mia is feeling both a little !!! and ??? and error404 about them, herself. She’s beyond relieved that he’s back and okay (at least physically ...... as far as she can tell, that is!), but he’s definitely distant and I think she can tell that there’s something else grating on him. Not that she doesn’t think his mom’s death has affected him (because clearly it has) but I think that she thinks that something elSE must have happened for him to just completely go off the radar and stop talking to everyone, y’know??

I think she feels like he definitely did love his mom (perhaps even more than he realized when she was alive) and even though she knows that they had a very complicated and dysfunctional relationship, she still thinks that this is hitting him too hard and I don’t think she wants to press it, but I do think that between that and the fact that he sometimes just ignores her when she tries to get ahold of him, that she is feeling cut out of his life and she’s not sure what to do about it!??!
