it doesnt make sense tho
navy blue was literally named for its use in the BRITISH ROYAL NAVY in the mid-1700âs
maroon is literally an evolution of french marron, meaning chestnut. its a brownish red. like a chestnut.
like, the kids making these memes need to take a fucking elective that isnt a sport. do teenage boys still think that âart is for fagsâ or something? learn colors, you sound stupid!!!!
This is like hilarious but also stop being pretentious, itâs a perfectly fair comparison to make. Navy blue = a darker and more desaturated blue and maroon = a darker and more desaturated red. The modifier ânavyâ is so disconnected enough from its roots that it makes sense for it to assume a new contextual meaning. Sure, the name comes from the British navy using it, but what weâre talking about is how it modifies a color.
i do not care how pretentious i sound, this joke is picking the lowest-hanging fruit ive ever seen. its LAZY.
it comes across as âhaha look at this funny r/showerthoughts post i saw!!! so relatable, am i right fellow non-artists?â
its a low effort joke aimed at people who could not be paid to give a shit about trying any artistic medium, but lose their mind over a notebook sketch someone does in 15 minutes and scream âI WISH I COULD DRAW LIKE YOUâ as if it doesnt take years of practice; like the artist was born with an âartistic geneâ or some bullshit
all i ask is that people try just a little bit more to not sound dumb when theyre trying to be funny
This guy thinks itâs an insult to artists where as Iâm pretty sure a sizable amount of the notes on this post are artists saying ââYEAH THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! NAVY RED!!ââ
if you donât know the name origin of every single color ever then you arenât an artist
and mustard is navy yellow
Imagine choosing this joke as the thing to put your foot down over⌠amazing.
Abled Person: Hey man, can you hold this wad of $2,000 and this one penny for me while I open my wallet?
Disabled Person: YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER FOOL!
The United States Government:
(Watch how many people donât get this.)
#raises hand #i dont understand #please explain?Â
In order for disabled people to receive any sort of financial assistant for their housing, food, bills, medical supplies, etc., they cannot ever have more than $2,000 of resources to their name. Ever.
It doesnât matter what itâs for.
Youâre saving up for a new wheelchair?
For college?
To put a downpayment on a house?
Hell man, you just happen to budget for once in your life so that you can have some extra money in case something bad happens?
Your benefits immediately get cut off if youâre a cent over $2,000.
And, even worse, you usually end up having to pay back every dollar the government gave you that month.
So say you get $400. If they find out youâre twenty dollars over the resource limit, you have to give them all $400 back and you undergo an investigation of your funds to see if you will continue getting money.
âWhat if I spend the money that day?â
Doesnât matter. In fact, from what I can tell, people who do this are actually put under investigation for fraud.
And yes, this system literally kills people.
Remember when âGuardians of the Galaxyâ came out? one of Rocket Racoonâs creators, Bill Mantlo, suffered an accident in 1992 and has irreparable brain damage.
before the movie came out, Marvel gave him an exclusive preview screening. SOme people were upset because they felt if Marvel was really wanted to thank mantlo, they should have donated money to Mantloâs family.
Bill Mantloâs brother had to come out and explain: If Marvel gave them monetary aid, Bill Mantlo would lose his financial assistance.
Thatâs so utterly depressing.
disgusting
I have friends on welfare who wonât pick up a penny in the street because theyâd risk the welfare they struggled to get for 10 years.
oh look another fucked up thing in this world. letâs just add it to the list. number 63858b
My brother has been on California State SSI for autism for the last 10 years, and he absolutely has to (no joke, HAS TO) spend all 720 bucks of his SSI every month, because if he puts it in the bank he risks losing his SSI altogether.
Sometimes, at the end of the month, he has no idea what to do with his money because the whole month went by and he still has 400-ish bucks in his account, and he fucking panics because he doesnât want to get anywhere near 2,000.
And hereâs the funnest part of the story!
One day he did a huge commission on Second Life and wound up earning 1500 bucks off of it, and he told the guy to donate it 500 bucks at a time over 3 months. The guy didnât want to, and just donated all 1500, which put my brother at 2,036 bucks.
The state IMMEDIATELY (Iâm talking less than an hour) called him up to tell him over the phone that they were canceling his SSI, because they noticed he had gone over the 2,000 buck threshold. He had to tell them that someone had made a charitable donation to him and that this was not a common occurrence in any way shape or form, and upon not believing him, my mother had to call to talk to them as his legal caretaker and say basically the same thing until they called off the cancellation of his SSI money.
He also had to cancel his renterâs assistance because it put him to 1,062 a month, so if he went 30 days without spending any money theyâd cancel his SSI altogether. Like, none of us in the family have any fucking clue why that regulation is in place and itâs the stupidest shit in human history.
Please, legal side of Tumblr, tell me what positive reasoning this law has?
Happy 4th of July everyone! This is what the ânation of opportunityâ looks like.
Thereâs something called an ABLE account that can help. If you are on SSI and were diagnosed as disabled before the age of 26 you can apply for an ABLE account that will allow you to save up to $99,000. More people need to know about this!
thank you so much for this information. iâm applying for an abled account right now
THERES A WHAT
OH GOD BLESS THE SHIT OUTTA YOU YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW FREAKED OUT OVER THIS I WAS
Iâve been looking into SSI; I had no idea about this!
Read till the end for the important info
Reblog to literally save a disabled personâs life
According to wiki, 39 states + DC have ABLE accounts, so check with your state
i think calling it "bullying" and not like "sustained harassment" has really done a lot to like, blunt the reality that kids shouldn't need to suffer mocking and teasing and even physical abuse from classmates.
pretty shitty how baseline human activities like singing, dancing and making art got turned into skills instead of being seen as behaviors
so now itâs like âthe point of doing them is to get good at themâ and not âthis is a thing humans do, the way birds sing and bees make hivesâ.
I know Iâve posted this before, but it bears repeating.
This is a thing humans do; you donât have to be good at it to enjoy it.

Holy shit i am SO PLEASED TO SEE THIS TWEET ON MY FEED. My mum is one of the people thatâs been helping the Djapwurrung people protect these trees for the last two years (the fight to save the sites has been going on for way longer; two years ago was just when works were about to begin, and attempts to stop the destruction moved from council/legal offices to people literally sitting in front of the trees to block access by large machinery), so itâs an issue Iâve been watching from up close, and and itâs one that hasnât seen mainstream attention, even though it should have.
There is a core group of individuals who have been on site for TWO YEARS. Other volunteers come in and out to help and live onsite for anywhere between a few days to a few months at a time, but thereâs a few individuals who have been on country for TWO YEARS, without pause. They have been camping, unceasingly, on the land to protect these sites (several trees with varying types of cultural importance, including an 800 year old birthing tree which has been the site of over 10,000 Djapwurrung babies being born) for two years. The sites havenât been left unmanned even for a few hours since this all started.
One of these indigenous protectors has:
been deliberately sprayed in the face with weed poison by a local farmer
been endlessly targetted by the local cops, including being arrested for having an expired licence (even though he was driving a truck on a private field at the time, and not out on the road, so there was no grounds to arrest him) and put in jail for several months over this offence (even though a white would never be arrested for an expired licence. In the end when it finally got to court, the judge was like âYouâve imprisoned this man for months for an expired licence? What the fuck, get out of here, charges are dropped, give the man a warning and let him goâ
had the local MacDonalds threaten to call the cops on him for the âcrimeâ of loitering (read: eating a meal in-store)
had a different MacDonalds threaten to call the cops because he didnât want to give the staff his name and phone number (the COVID restrictions require restaraunts to ask for phone numbers in case of a break out so they can notify people, but itâs not actually a requirement of diners to give those details, and the restaurant certainly doesnât have the grounds to call the cops on someone for not supplying their number)
strained himself so much by insisting on staying on the land to protect the sites that he wound up hospitalised with various illnesses that struck him because he was physically and emotionally exhausted by the whole situation
walked from the site into Melbourne city, on foot, in an effort to raise awareness (over 200 kilometres/41 hours worth of walking)
The front line camp is alongside a busy road, and all the asshole locals and truck drivers who go past that are pissed about the protest make sure to express their displeasure by honking their horns loudly and repeatedly whenever they go by, whether thatâs at 2 pm or 2 am, which Iâm sure you can imagine does wonders for the protectors ability to get a good night sleep
Thatâs just a snippet of what this one person has gone through. That doesnât cover the constant abuse faced by all of them, the attempts at property destruction, the attitude they get by locals whenever they go into town for supplies, the constant red alerts because someoneâs heard that the machinery is being mobilised and that theyâre moving to start works tomorrow. There were several occasions where police were called to disperse the protectors so that works could begin, and itâs only because there were more protectors than cops that everyone wasnât arrested and dragged off.
I could literally go on for days with details about this. An archeologist came out to the site and was absolutely staggered by the stuff that was there â in addition to the trees themselves, there was more archeological evidence of the local indigenous tribe that had lived there, sitting untouched on the surface of the earth than this archeologist has seen at any other site throughout Australia. A detailed report was sent to the supposed Minister for the Environment, who summarily ignored it and gave her stamp of approval for the works to commence without reading any of the reports. The protectors went to court over this and it was found that yeah, the Environment Minister hasnât done her job at all, and a full review has been ordered â- but the works havenât been cancelled altogether.
All this for a road that will shave a few minutes of travel off the road that currently already exists. All this for a road thatâs got a speed limit of 80 that they want to boost to 110. All this for a road that could go a different route. Thereâs another route available that the protectors have been pitching for since the start, but VicRoads refuses to consider it for reasons they wonât specify.
This route that theyâre insistent on not only cuts directly through several indigenous sites (some of the only ones left in Victoriaof this kind) it also costs around $630 million more. This route is full of hills and valleys that need to be flattened, and itâs twisty and turny. The Northern Route - the one protectors have been wanting since the beginning - is flat and straight, will be literal hundreds of millions of dollars less expensive, will take less time to complete, and doesnât cut through any indigenous sites.
If you could sign this petition, that would be awesome. Here is another petition.
Here is a copy of an academic petition sent by RMIT to the Victorian government, signed by over 150 academics.
Here is an article written by an indigenous woman (which I am not, by the way; Iâm just a white woman who is outraged by what my government is trying to do to these people) on the topic that has some more information.
And thank you, @whitepeopletwitter , for sharing this.
people slipping up and saying shit like âbiological nameâ instead of âdeadnameâ is more or less proof these people donât actually care about real science they just want smart sounding words and i guarantee if we could manipulate chromosomes theyâd abandon all pretext of science and start yammering about how people are born with a âmasculine/feminine essenceâ that âcant be changedâ like none of these people actually know the chromosomes real fuckin function and they dont care they just know they cant be changed
âBiological nameâ
Scientists scanned my dna, Iâm genetically a Sally but I chose my own fate.
i changed my name for non gender related reasons and people like to ask me âwhatâs your birth nameâ and i say âoh i actually wasnât born with a name my parents just gave me oneâ and that tends to shut people up
Damn nice
thatâs an excellent response. gonna have to steal it
this squad fucking rules

Donât try this at home.
This looks like a great Pyrenees, a breed of livestock guardian dog, so heâs literally doing what he was bred for by protecting a baby ruminant.
Finally seeing a dog experience the âI canât get up because my pet is laying in my lapâ problem.
How the tables have turned.
It doesnât end there:

"war is inevitable"
"anarchy means chaos"
"without capitalism you wouldn't have [insert modern technology]"
"liberals are left wing"
"nazis were socialists"
So wtf do we do with all the murders, child abusers, violent gangmembers, rapists, serial killers, robbers, etc. once we abolish prisons, brainiac? Just kill them? Or do we ask them politely not to do it again?
Lmao, I didnât realize the first time reading this that you called me âbrainiacâ (as if anarchism is entirely my idea and not a philosophy thatâs been developed by some of the worldâs great thinkers over the last few centuries). But by the time I noticed I had already started writing a good faith answer, so even though itâll be wasted on you I guess Iâll post it for the other folks reading
Anarchy Works has an entire chapter dedicated to crime, going into detail on how anarchist societies have successfully dealt with these issues in the past. I highly recommend reading the whole chapter, and even the whole book if you have the time (itâs fascinating), but hereâs one of the shorter sections titled âWhatâs to stop someone from killing people?â
âMuch violent crime can be traced back to cultural factors. Violent crime, such as murder, would probably decrease dramatically in an anarchist society because most of its causes â poverty, televised glorification of violence, prisons and police, warfare, sexism, and the normalization of individualistic and anti-social behaviors â would disappear or decrease.
The differences between two Zapotec communities illustrates that peace is a choice. The Zapotec are a sedentary agrarian indigenous nation living on land that is now claimed by the state of Mexico. One Zapotec community, La Paz, has a yearly homicide rate of 3.4/100,000. A neighboring Zapotec community has the much higher homicide rate of 18.1/100,000. What social attributes go along with the more peaceful way of life? Unlike their more violent neighbors, the La Paz Zapotec do not beat children; accordingly, children see less violence and use less violence in their play. Similarly, wife-beating is rare and not considered acceptable; women are considered equal to men, and enjoy an autonomous economic activity that is important to the life of the community so they are not dependent on men. Regarding child-rearing, the implications of this particular comparison are corroborated by at least one cross-cultural study on socialization, which found that warm, affectionate socialization techniques correlate with low levels of conflict in society.
The Semai and the Norwegians were both previously mentioned as societies with low homicide rates. Until colonialism, the Semai were stateless, whereas Norway is ruled by a government. Socialization is relatively peaceful among the Semai and the Norwegians alike. The Semai use a gift economy so wealth is evenly distributed, while Norway has one of the lowest wealth gaps of any capitalist country on account of its socialistic domestic policies. A further similarity is a reliance on mediation rather than punishment, police, or prisons to solve disputes. Norway does have police and a prison system, but compared with most states there is a high reliance on conflict mediation mechanisms not unlike those that flourish in peaceful, stateless societies. Most civil disputes in Norway must be brought before mediators before they can be taken to court, and thousands of criminal cases are taken to mediators as well. In 2001, agreement was reached in 89% of the mediations.
So in an anarchist society, violent crime would be less common. But when it did occur, would society be more vulnerable? After all, one might argue, even when violence is no longer a rational social response, psychopathic killers might still occasionally appear. Let it suffice to say that any society capable of overthrowing a government would hardly be at the mercy of lone psychopathic killers. And societies that do not come about from a revolution but enjoy a strong sense of community and solidarity are capable of protecting themselves as well. The Inuit, hunter-gatherers indigenous to the arctic regions of North America, provide an example of what a stateless society can do in the worst-case scenario. According to their traditions, if a person committed a murder, the community would forgive him and make him reconcile with the family of the victim. If that person commits another murder, he would be killed â usually by members of his own family group, so there would be no bad blood or cause for feud.
The stateâs punitive methods for dealing with crime make things worse, not better. The restorative methods for responding to social harm that are used in many stateless societies open new possibilities for escaping the cycles of abuse, punishment, and harm that are all too familiar to many of us.âThere are other sections in the chapter about gangs, domestic and sexual abuse, etc. too, but theyâre too long to quote here. And of course this is far from the only work thatâs dealt with this question - itâs easily the most common objection to, and most explored topic in, anarchist thought
