shinichi of all people who barely open up to people, actually open up to heiji about his problems, and agasa (who knew shinichi as a child) calls heiji because he's his trusted friend (which is someone who doesn't have any deep connection to anyone)

and they have this weird sensing each other in danger thing going on and both having the same gunshot at their lower abdomen

like cmon. he was 14 when his parents left. that’s a baby, i don’t care how self-sufficient a baby is, that’s a baby. you don’t leave babies alone. you hold their hand and teach them carefully and make sure they have a support system.

did Shinichi have a support system when his parents left? Ran. maybe Sonoko, but she’s more Ran’s friend than his. can’t really say Kogoro, that guy needs therapy first.

and when it comes to Ran, she was first hooked by him because of his detective abilities. same for his classmates. he was the cool guy, the dependable guy. would that self-given label have kept him from seeking help? would that label make him feel unworthy of asking others, ‘hey, can i stay with you?’ how many times has he hidden under the covers in a too-big bed in a too-empty manor, wishing beyond wishing that someone would walk in and say ‘i’m home’? that his parents would open the door and waltz back into his life like nothing happened?

no wonder he was addicted to the fame. instead of people leaving him, he got to leave them. instead of scrambling for attention, others scrambled for his.

but the day he really, truly disappeared, he was forgotten. all over again. all alone.
