Much to think abt.....the power here....
“I spoke to my agent and said, ‘you know, they’ve done everything in the world [on Dynasty], they haven’t missed a thing. Incest, homosexuality, they’ve done it all, I think now it’s time for them to integrate.’ My agent called Aaron Spelling and they asked for ideas, ‘what would you like to do, what character would you like to be?’ And I said ‘just like all the other characters, ridiculous, beautiful, rich. I would like to be the first Black Bitch on Television.’” - Diahann Carroll on her role as Dominique Deveraux on “Dynasty” (1984-1987)
Rest in paradise to Oscar nominated trailblazer and icon Diahann Carroll. She was the first Black woman to star in a non-servant role on television in Julia She broke many barriers and stereotypes set for Black women. She was the first Black person to win a Tony Award for a leading role. She was a true pioneer and made many significant contributions to Black American cinema. (17 July 1935 - 04 October 2019)
I’d take health care and no children in cages if it meant, like, fewer kinds of apple juice to choose from, idk.

Here's the thing about shows like South Park and Family Guy that make their money off of being edgy and offensive. They fundamentally reduce their viewers' capacity for empathy. If I found a joke funny, and you found it offensive, you're just too sensitive. This is directly related to the ride of the alt right and the election of trump. In this essay I will
OP WHERE'S THE FUCKING ESSAY
So instead of writing the essay this is exactly what I'm talking about. This shit reduces your capacity for empathy. If you can't understand why people are hurt by a simple joke, nay, think that's the whole point... How the hell are you supposed to feel for someone when they come to you complaining of ACTUAL oppression? It's the foot in the door phenomenon. A little oppression isn't too bad, cuz it's funny, right? It hardens your heart against others
Somebody actually wrote this essay already. It's a Twitter thread about how the alt right recruits teenage boys by getting them to post slightly offensive memes... And then when they get called out and don't understand why the alt right channels their anger at feminists and women and people of color and liberals. According to this thread, boys are being "set up"
Read the whole thread at the link above this is just a snip
"offensive" shows like Family Guy are a precursor to the alt right and you can't change my mind
op this is a fantastic semi-essay
I’d like to add that a super dangerous thing about shows like Family Guy and South Park is that they will parody real-life events, and that parody will 100% desensitise you to the real world events the shows portray.
Both shows have episodes that revolve around stand your ground laws/shooting unarmed black teenagers. South Park literally have a school principal who is obsessed with political correctness. By essentially shitting on these issues through their brand of comedy, these shows tell their viewers (as we’ve established, young white men) that these things are non-issues.
Similarly, it’s why sites like Buzzfeed etc. need to stop reporting on, say, what George Zimmerman has been up to since the Trayvon Martin shooting. By giving us breakdown of all the crazy shit GZ has done (or tried to do) since that day in 2012, we forget that this isn’t some crazy person.
Comedy that brands its critics as over-sensitive has no place in a world that feels so farcical.
