my first piece of advice for the college application experience is do NOT write off colleges in the very beginning, go in with an open mind and the attitude that you will be happy anywhere, because it’s true (the college is what you make of it) and will save you a lot of disappointment in the long run. you might see people getting into places like the ivy leagues, or schools that you wish you could go to, but there’s no one path to success. someone who goes to harvard is no more likely to be successful than you are, and a lot of your happiness is based on HOW you measure success - it’s not how much money you have, but how content you are with your life. don’t look at going to a school you had as your “safety” as a disappointment, because it’s not! it’s probably a great place where you’re going to have an amazing time.

colleges don’t only look at your grades. yes, they are an important factor, but they want to see your extra curriculars, that you’re a well-rounded, interesting person who’s going to bring a unique perspective to their school. do some research and find schools you think you could get into that seem to fit your personality/that you would like. once again, it’s SUPER important to keep an open mind.

the admissions process can feel really tiring, and there was definitely a point where i was completely disillusioned by it, but once you know where you’re going it’s the best feeling in the world. so do research, don’t stress about little things like grades you can’t change, and keep an open mind!
