puzzle pieces - spencer knight
requested: kinda?
note: vivi doesnât know i wrote this. so we wait for her reaction. this is the one time i will post something without her reading it first. hi viv i love you
cuddling deeper into spencerâs bed, you hear the water running from the shower stop. he has no idea youâre there, in his bed, wearing a t-shirt that smells like him and a pair of his sweats. after countless attempts to fall asleep, you finally decided to go to spencerâs. you knew he would be fine with it, and so would lily. she loved you. it also wasnât a rare thing that you just randomly show up at night.
the door to spenceâs room opens. your beloved boyfriend walks in, a towel wrapped around his waist and his hair shaggy and damp from the water, droplets falling down onto his chest. itâs quite the sight to see.
âlove? whatâre you doing here?â spence asks upon seeing you curled up in his bed. ânot that iâm complaining, though.â a cute smile makes its way onto his face.
âcouldnât sleep,â you mumble, admiring your boyfriendâs body, from his abs that are slowly getting more defined, to the dimples at the small of his back when he turns his back to get a pair of sweats from his dresser.
âbad dream?â spence glances over his shoulder and slips his boxers on underneath his towel. you shrug. âlove, you can tell me. youâre not the only teenager that still has nightmares.â
you huff. spence slips an identical pair of sweatpants to the ones youâre already wearing on, and he finally turns to face you. he grabs his towel and attempts to dry his hair, waiting for your response.
âjust want you here with me,â you open your arms waiting for him to crawl into bed with you. he finally does, pulling your much smaller body into his. you fit together like puzzle pieces. your head rests right on his chest, your leg thrown over his torso, and spenceâs chin resting on top of your head with his hand on your back keeping you close to him.
âwhat was your dream about?â spence murmurs quietly, his hand going underneath the shirt of his youâre wearing and caressing the skin.
you take a deep inhale, part of you mentally preparing yourself, the other half taking in the scent of his body wash you loved so dearly. âyou left,â you mumble, your hand going up to fumble with the chain you had gotten him for his birthday. âyou were needed in the city, so you up and left. no goodbye, just a text saying that we couldnât be together anymore. it scared me, spence.â your voice is small as you talk. spenceâs hand comes back around to your face and tilts your chin up to look at him.
âi promise you, y/n, i am not leaving you. not now, not ever. youâre coming right with me when they need me, got that? youâve stuck by with me since we were sixteen, iâm not letting you go that easily. you mean the world to me. i am hopelessly in love with you, so much that it terrifies me. iâm scared that you wonât want to follow me to the nhl, that you choose to not have that lifestyle. because you deserve someone thatâs there for you all the time.â
your hand goes up to rest on top of spencerâs hand on your cheek, your eyes watering at his words. âspencer knight, you are my everything. youâre the reason for the stars in the sky and why the earth turns. i canât imagine my life without you. youâre foolish to think i wonât follow you, because iâll be right there when you need me: behind the net at your games, your jersey on my back, being your number one fan all the time. i knew what i was getting into, got it? i think we got through the hardest part already. teenagers not being able to hang out every weekend is rough, but love, we got through that. iâm here through thick and thin. i promise.â
the smile that breaks out onto spenceâs face is adorable â and contagious, of course. he leans forward and presses a kiss to your forehead. âi am so fucking in love with you.â
âoh trust me, goalie boy, i know.â

âFlight 469 to Slovakia is now boarding.â The PA system called. You stood up and gathered your luggage and glanced down at your phone. 7 pm on the dot. Time for his second âgiftâ. You opened imessage, his contact still up from the last message, and scrolled through your pictures, selecting a mirror picture of you completely topless in a pair of his gray sweatpants, before smiling smugly as you hit send and closed your phone. It was finally Jackâs eighteenth birthday, meaning he was finally a legal adult, and you wanted to make it unforgettable for him. You, with some help from the girls, of course, had already had something grand planned when he had dropped the bomb on you that he was going to be at worlds during his birthday, so then it was back to the drawing board. It was Fran who had given you the idea, suggesting that you be the present and fly out to Slovakia and surprise him. So, with Quinnâs help, you booked your flight and a room, which the two of you somehow managed to get at the same hotel where the team would be staying. You smiled at the lady at the gate, handing her your boarding pass for her to check before quickly shooting Quinn one final text before boarding the plane. âBoarding now. See you soonâ âThank you, have a nice flight.â the lady smiled, handing the pass back and stepping aside to let you through the ramp. You found your seat and loaded your carry on into the overhead bin before settling into your seat. 10 minutes later when everyone boarded and got into their seats, the intercom dinged and then pilotâs voice came on, introducing himself and quickly running through the safety presentation and informing you that youâd be taking off shortly. Deciding to get some rest, you leaned your seat back, popped in your earbuds, closed your eyes, and drifted off to sleep. The alarms you had set woke you up every hour, reminding you that it was time to send him another picture, but after the sixth time, the irritation of constantly being awoken finally got to you. Giving up, you pulled your MacBook out of your backpack and turned on netflix, deciding to binge That 70s Show. An hour later, when it was again time to send another picture, you turned on your phone and was met with a message from Jack. To say he was speechless to have woke up to your surprise cache of âgiftsâ was an understatement. You chuckled, sending another one and watching the bubbles appear as he typed his response. Jack: Fuck y/n. Youâre too fucking beautiful. He finally sent back. You: Happy birthday Jackie :) Jack: Happy birthday to me indeed. Wish you were here to celebrate :( You: Me too :( For the next five hours, you spent your time divided up between texting, reading, listening to music and watching movies on netflix until finally, the pilotâs voice came over the intercom. âPassengers please fasten your seat, weâll be landing at the KoĆĄice International Airport in 10 minutes.â he announced. You shut your laptop and looked out the window down at the view below, pulling out your phone and snapping a quick, mandatory picture for your VSCO feed before texting Quinn and letting him know. Your stomach swarmed with butterflies and you mindlessly fiddled with your fingers as the plane descended lower and lower to the ground and landed on the runway. You couldnât believe you were really here and that this was actually happening. After 15 long minutes of waiting, the pilot released you and you grabbed your carry on and rushed into the airport. Once you retrieved your suitcase from the baggage claim you made your way towards the gate exit. Amongst the crowd of relatives and friends waiting for the arrival of someone, you saw Quinnâs familiar face grinning at you as he held up a sign with your name on it. You smiled brightly back, hurrying over to him and letting him embrace you in a friendly hug. âHey y/n/n.â Quinn greeted. âHey Quinnie.â âHow was the flight?â he asked, picking up your suitcase and heading towards the parking lot. âLong. Very, very long.â you huffed. âI can imagine.â he chuckled, shaking his head playfully. âGo ahead and get in. I got this.â he told you as you guys approached his black Mazda 3. You nodded and climbed into the passengerâs seat as Quinn loaded your suitcase into the trunk and then joined you in the driverâs seat. The two of you spent the drive catching up with each other, talking about hockey, family, your schooling, and of course, Jack. âThese whole two weeks he hasnât stopped talking about you and how much he misses you.â Quinn disclosed and you could help the small fond smile that played on your lips. Before you knew it the car was pulling into the hotel parking lot. You stepped out of the car and reached over your head, stretching some of the stiffness from your shoulders and back while Quinn grabbed your bags. Wanting to carry at least something, you took your carry on backpack from him and slung it over your shoulder as you followed him inside the upscale, four-story building. You stood beside him, as he checked in, curiously raising an eyebrow at the amused expression made when the man standing behind the desk said the room number. âEnjoy your stay.â the man smiled, handing over the room cards. Taking the elevator up to the fourth floor, you made your way down the hall until you found room 422. âHere we are.â Quinn said,  scanning the key and stepping aside to let you in first then following you inside and placing your stuff on the bed. âIf you need anything just text me. Weâre right down the hall in room 406.â Suddenly, Quinnâs facial expression at the front desk finally made sense. He snickered meanly as your jaw dropped to the floor. The already building anticipation was killing you now with the knowledge that Jack was only a few doors away. âOnly four more hours y/n/n.â he called behind him as he left, closing the door behind him. You huffed, Quinnâs statement lingering in your thoughts. Only for more hours, you could do this. After you settled in and finished arranging your belongings,  you decided itâd be a good idea, and a good time killer,  to take a nap and re-energize before the game so you tossed your hair up into a messy bun, set an alarm, and relaxed on the neatly made bed, letting yourself doze off into a light sleep, and after an hour or so, the alarm woke you, letting you know it was time to start getting ready for the game. You clicked on your phone to check the time - 2:59 pm - and swiped open a text from Quinn. Quinn: Left my car keys, room key, and your ticket at the front desk. You typed back a simple thumbs up and set your phone on the desk, pulling a pair of black leggings out of a drawer and then Jackâs favorite white champion hoodie out of another and tossed them onto the bed. You quickly hopped in the shower, the water seeming to wash away the sleep and jet laggy feeling and leaving you feeling clean and refreshed. When you got out, you pat your body dry with one of the fresh, fluffy, white towels and wrapped your hair in another, keeping it there to dry as you moved onto your makeup. You stuck with your normal, everyday look, simply priming your face, adding a touch of a peachy blush, blending a soft, not too dark brown eyeshadow into your crease, coating your lashes in your favorite better than sex mascara, and finishing off by applying a blush nude lipgloss. You let your still damp hair fall from the towel, gently brushing the tangles out of it before blowing drying it and pondering how you were gonna style it. After it dried and youâd brushed through it once more, you noticed your hair had naturally formed into beach like waves and you decided to leave it like that. You pulled on the outfit youâd laid out prior to your shower, topping it off with your dirty white slip-on vans and the crown jewel, the royal blue, red, and white Hughes jersey youâd bought specifically for this. You checked yourself over in the bathroom mirror and couldnât help the smile as you admired Jackâs name embroidered across your back. More than pleased with how you looked, you grabbed your phone, room card, and purse and headed down to Quinnâs car, stopping at the front desk to claim the keys and tickets first. You tucked the ticket and room card into your purse and sat it in the passenger seat next to you and set up directions to the rink on your phone, pulling out of the parking lot and following the machineâs orders and by the time you pulled into the rink parking lot it was 3:45 pm, giving you  fifteen minutes till puck drop. You scanned your ticket at the entrance and made your way into the building. As you made your way to your seat, you observed the variety of different hockey fans you passed, each one supporting their own different countries. You followed the numbers on the ticket to section 127, which was directly behind USAâs bench, and down to the seventh row and to seat six, of course. When you finally sat down, there was still two minutes until the start, so you opened snapchat, snapping Fran and a few of the other girls back home back until the siren sounded and both teams emerged from the locker room and took the ice. You rose for the playing of the national anthem and then joined the crowd in cheering excitedly as USAâs starting line lined up with Great Britainâs. With a whistle from the ref, the puck was dropped and the game began. The game was fast, but the US was by far skating rings around Great Britain. James Van Riemsdyk netted the first goal and sent the boys to the locker room with a 1-0 lead after the first period. In the second, the Brits managed to notch a goal of their own to tie up the score and another later one, but the US answered back. Quinn set up Clayton Kellerâs goal which made the score 2-1, goals from Chris Kreider and Alex DeBrincat following suit, closing the second period with a score of 4-2. Jack was trying, pressing for a goal of his own, but no matter how good the chance he got, he just couldnât seem to find that net, but he was still playing proficiently nonetheless, making beautiful tape to tape passes up the ice and making speedy, on the move decisions that helped set up play after play. Finally, the third period rolled in and Patrick Kane scored one minute in. watched Jack and the wings pass the puck around the offensive zone, looking for an open opportunity. The puck connected with the tape of Jackâs stick for the third time, but this time he took off towards the net, dancing around the two defenders and swerved off to the left, taking the goalie by surprise and causing him to dive early. You held your breath as he lifted the puck on his backhand and sent it towards the net hopefully, but somehow to goalie managed to reach up enough to stop it from going in and rob Jack of his first goal of the tournament and you sighed disappointedly. When he skated to the bench you could see the slight frustration on his face, but despite that, he kept his head up and kept playing hard. Derek Ryan scored the final US goal giving them a four-goal lead before Great Britain cut the lead down to three and stole one more goal before the buzzer sounded, ending the game. The final score - USA 6, Great Britain 3. Your heart raced as the mix of anticipation and excitement grew unbearable. All game youâd been on the edge of your seat, anxious to finally see him and be with him again. You stayed just long enough for the rising of the flag, shifting your weight from side to side the entire time, before hurrying back to the hotel to prepare the final touches. As soon as you made it up to your room, your phone buzzed. Quinn: On our way back to the hotel now. You took a deep breath. Only twenty more minutes. You pulled a matte black box out of your suitcase and set it down on the bed. You pulled the top off and peered inside, admiring the delicate white lace lingerie ensemble, another specially bought âfinal touchâ,  neatly folded inside. Wasting no more time, you changed out of your clothes and into the garments. You stepped into the bathroom, tying the large bow in the front that held the top closed. Looking at your reflection in the mirror, you couldnât help but appreciate how the pieces looked on you and you knew Jack would love it too. You slid his jersey on over the garments made your way down to Quinn and Jackâs shared room to wait, letting yourself in with the key Quinn gave you in exchange for one of yours. Heading Quinnâs specific note, you made your way across the room and laid down on Jackâs bed, propping yourself up against the pillows. You clicked on your phone and checked the time. Seventeen minutes had passed by, which meant that heâd be there any second. You squeezed your legs together tightly, the exciting suspense shooting straight to your center. Suddenly you heard footsteps approach and then the click of the key unlocking the door. The handle turned and the door creaked open and a second later, Jack was there, standing in front of you with wide eyes. âY/n?â he marveled. âSurprise.â you chuckled, getting up from the bed and approaching him. You watched as his eyes roamed your body, taking in the sight of you in his jersey hungrily. He brought a hand to rest on your waist and used the other to lift your face to his, capturing your lips in a desperate, passionate kiss. âI canât believe youâre here.â he panted breathlessly, pulling away and breaking the kiss. âI wanted to surprise you for your birthday.â you winked seductively, grabbing the hem of the jersey and slipping it off. âSee? Iâm the gift.â âFuck y/n.â he inhaled sharply, his eyes darkening with a look of pure want that sent a shiver down your spine. âGo on, open your present.â He stepped back, taking a loose-hanging piece of the silk fabric between his fingers and tugged. The garment fell open gracefully, exposing your bare chest. You reached out, pulling him closer by the collar of his white dress shirt and took your time undoing the buttons while his hands cupped and caressed the soft mounds of your breasts. When you were finished, reached down to undo his belt, growing more and more eager by the second, but before you could he grabbed your wrists and stopped you. âPatience love.â he purred, backing you up and carefully pushing you down on the bed, firmly pinning your hands above your head as he hovered over you. âYouâre my present, remember?â He kept your hands held securely in place with one hand and dipped his head down, biting down on the soft skin of your shoulder blade. He repeated that sequence up to your jaw, leaving a trail of his marks behind and eventually snaking a hand down your body and between your legs, rubbing circles over your clothed clit and adding to the sensations. You whined miserably at the loss of contact when he pulled away, shushing you as he hooked his fingers around the waistband of your panties. You lifted your hips to make dragging them down your legs easier, way more than ecstatic to help rid them. When he got them off he quickly tossed them on top of his duffel bag and settled himself in between your legs. âAlready so so wet for me.â he noted, slowly running a finger through your dripping folds, collecting some of your essence. You watched wide-eyed as he brought the finger to his lips and licked it clean. âYou taste so sweet baby. I can never get enough.â he praised, earning a sweet whimper from you. âBetter than any cake.â Finally, he got to work, bringing his mouth to your clit and sucking at it harshly, pausing every now and then to flick at it with his tongue teasingly. You intertwined your fingers in his hair, tugging at the soft curls whenever he hit a particularly sweet spot. Suddenly he pulled off completely and before you could protest, he blew a quick, short breath over it and you yelped in surprise. He laughed lightly at your reaction before turning his attention back to your sensitive bud. âGonna make you cum with just my mouth and fingers.â he announced, dipping one of his thick fingers inside of you. He moved it in and out at a steady pace, curling it upwards every so often and just brushing your g-spot, keeping true to his word and inching you closer and closer to the brink your orgasm. Soon you could feel it boiling over in your lower stomach and with one final, almost meticulously planned stroke, it came crashing over you. While you came down, Jack maneuvered from the floor and sat by your side, suckling your juices from his fingers and then stroking your hair gently. âYou did so good y/n/n.â he complimented. âThink youâre ready for me?â You nodded, yearning to finally get him inside you. You crawled to the edge of the bed, pulling him within reach by one of the belt loops of his pants and swiftly undid his belt, taking a hold of both waistbands and dragging down both his pants and boxers until they were merely a pool around his ankles. He gracefully stepped out of them, discarding them somewhere in the room, taking a hold of his stiff cock and stroking it a few times. âShit. I donât have any condoms.â âItâs okay, iâm on the pill.â you reassured, the look of disappointment disappearing for his features. âNow come on and fuck me already.â He chuckled, following you up the bed and settling himself over you. âSo so needy.â he tsked , throwing your legs over his shoulders. You whined impatiently, your hips involuntarily bucking as he teased your folds with his tip. Finally, he lined himself up at your entrance and with a relaxed, easy thrust, entered you, sliding in with ease. You let out a blissed moan as he buried himself in you completely, filling you completely in the best way. Ready for him to move, you wiggled your hips, and he began moving, picking up and satisfying, rhythmic pace after a few strokes. With every thrust into you, his cock brushed the perfect spots inside you oh so deliciously, like only his cock could. He knew you too well, inside and out. You focused in on him, watching him above you. A few strands of hair had fallen into his face, which displayed a look of pure satisfaction and concentration, and he was making the sweetest noises, you couldnât help it as you clenched down around him. âShit.â he moaned, the sound like music to your ears. As his hips began snapping into yours harder, sharper,  and his thrusts went deeper and deeper, you could tell he was growing close. You ground your hips down against him, throwing your head back and moaning high-pitched and sharp as he suddenly speared your g-spot head-on. âY/n.â he growled, grabbing your hips and gripping them bruisingly. He held you in place as he drilled into you at a punishing pace, constantly hitting your sweet spot and making you wiggling wildly and scream his name as you speedily approached the brink of your second orgasm. Finally, with one final brutal snap of his hips, you gripped his arms, and came again, your vision going white and constricting around him tightly, drawing him over with you. He buried his face in the crook of your neck, panting and letting out strings of swears. The two of you stayed still, holding each other, sweaty skin pressed against skin, as the two of you recovered, not caring one bit how long it took. Eventually, Jack pulled away, getting up and walking to the bathroom and coming back with a warm washcloth and gently cleaned you up before laying back down next to you and tucking you against him, his bare skin warm against your own. âAs soon as i can walk, iâll take you to dinner.â you giggled, turning your head to look at him. âI mean iâm perfectly fine staying just like this for the rest of the night. We can just order pizza or something.â he mumbled into your hair, kissing your head softly. âHappy birthday Jack.â you smiled softly. âHappy birthday to me.â

Graduation - Spencer Knight
(Thanks to Renee ( @patty-wagon-nols ) for the gif )
Requested: yes / no
Word Count: 766
You stepped out of your parentâs car already in your cap and gown. Spencer stood on the lawn with his teammates and their families as you walked up with yours. You stood by a few of the other girlfriends as the boys got their pictures. You greeted them and made small talk until the boys were done. Spencer walked over to you and gave you a tight hug.
âAre you excited, baby?â He said as he smiled down at you. You nodded quickly before giving him a quick kiss, trying to avoid bumping caps and earning a big groan from your little brother and chirps from his team.
Your parents stood back as everyone switched in and out for pictures. Couple pictures, girls picture, boys picture, family pictures. You stood next to Spencer as both of your families crowded in for one big picture. Spencer, along with a few other couples also had to get kissing pictures.
When the time finally came to leave for the high school, you climbed into Spencerâs truck and took off. You followed the convoy of other graduates.
Once everyone got their, it was a lot a waiting. You and Spencer walked around and talked to teachers and other students to pass the time. One of the teacher started yelling out names and you knew it was time to line up.
You took Spencerâs hand as you stood in line outside the gym, waiting to walk. The music started to play and everyone straightened up. The line moved slowly.
âCalm down, baby.â Spencer whispered to you as he squeezed your hand. You smiled up at him and squeeze his hand back.
âI love you, Spencer.â You brought your clasped hands up to your mouth and kissed the back of his. The teacher gave the two of you an annoyed look.
âI love you too, darling.â As he finished his sentence, it was your turn to walk.
The two of you started down the aisle, walking slowly so all your friends and family can take pictures. At the end, you stopped and did your handshake, the one the two of you made up before you even started dating, and hugged before parting ways and walking over to stand at your seats. He smiled at you from the other side of the aisle. You returned it before clapping for the next pair.
The ceremony went on for way felt like hours in the hot gym, but it was finally time to get your diplomas. You all lined up in the hallway in order by last name. Spencer was a few people ahead of you. You were close enough to him to see him walk across the stage from the hall.
âThey are so in love. Itâs adorable.â You heard a girl behind you tell her friend. You smiled and clapped for your boyfriend.
A few minutes later, your name was called. You went up the stairs and across the stage, trying not to get freaked out by all the people. Shaking your principalâs hand, you grabbed your diploma and walked off stage before finding your seat. The rest of the ceremony wrapped up quickly.
âWould the senior class president please come to the stage.â You looked over to Spencer, who gave you a huge smile as the people around you got ready to officially graduate.
âI now present to you, the graduating class of 2019. Congratulations!â The building cheered as everyone moved their tassels from right to left. After everyone settled down a bit, the seniors were asked to move out to the football field to throw their caps.
On the way out, Spencer caught up to you and walked with you out there. Everyone got stationed and a teacher started a countdown,
â3! 2! 1!.â Caps went flying into the sky and Spencer wrapped his arms around you, pulling you back against him. Family started to file out and you got pictures with everyone you could.
After the second round of pictures was done, you and Spencer met back up under the tree on the side lawn. He greeted you with a quick kiss before sitting down and pulling you down with him.
âIâm so lucky to have you.â Spencer looked down at you with love in his eyes.
âYou speak for both of us with that, baby.â He laughed as he hugged you tighter. Spencer put a finger under your chin and turned your head towards his. He leaned down for a soft, sweet kiss. As he pulled away, he kissed your forehead.
âOnto the rest of our lives, baby. Together.â
All Roads Lead Home | NTDP â Seven.Five
spencerâs point of view.
âAre you sure sheâll be fine with us just showing up like this?â I ask Jack as the two of us walk into the USA Hockey Arena â where Jordanâs practice was being held. We had just left two hours ago and now weâre back. Thanks, Jack.
âNope,â Jack says, popping the âpâ of the word. He looks around before muttering to himself. âTheyâre probably in rink three,â And then we start to walk towards the back of the rink I know like the back of my hand.
âIâm not looking for her to be pissed at me, you know that, right?â I ask, glancing over at my best friend who just shrugs his shoulders. I let out a sigh.
âI know you likeââ My eyes widen, and I donât even let Jack finish his sentence.
âI do not like her!â I cut Jack off quickly, and I can feel the blood rush to my face. âNo way, Jack. Absolutely no way. Thatâs your sister and sisters are off limits. Iâm not that dumb.â
Jack chuckles to himself and shakes his head before pushing open the door to one of the ice rinks. Thereâs a few of the boys out on the ice, but thereâs yet to be one in a different jersey. So Jordan wasnât out there yet.
âAre you sure weâre even allowed to be here?â I ask and glance over at Jack cautiously. Practices are usually closed.
âI donât think so, but donât you wanna see J? Thereâs no way she gave it her all when you guys practiced together. She doesnât want to seem like a show off in front of friends⊠But here? God, sheâs gonna burst.â
We make our way up into the stands, sitting on the wood that covers the concrete steps. I keep my eyes glued on the tunnel, and a few seconds later I see Jordan emerge in a white âBobcatsâ jersey. A smile makes its way onto my face as I watch her fall perfectly into line with the rest of the team as they make their first lap around. She fits right in, and I donât even have to sit and watch to know she already has a spot on that team.
The team captain, Matt Barclay, skates up next to Jordan and points a finger up to where Jack and I are sitting. âSpotted,â I mumble and Jack lets out a huff. Jordan looks up, and I can pretty much see how annoyed she is by the expression on her face. âPrincess doesnât look too happy.â
âSheâll get over it.â
A few minutes later, after stretches and a quick brief meeting at center ice, theyâre working on drills. Theyâve got both goalies on either side of the ice and theyâre split up into groups. Of course, Jordan is with Matt. I donât have anything against him, I barely know the kid, but I havenât heard amazing things about him. I just know heâs gonna be at Michigan next year.
Matt feeds Jordan the puck and sheâs suddenly taking off down the ice. I knew she had speed, but not as speedy as that. I watch as Jordan crosses over to the left, but then sheâs quickly back over on the right, faking right before tucking the puck in on the left. It was done so smoothly, without a single flaw, I canât help but let my jaw drop.
âYeah, sheâs got that effect on people,â Jack chuckles. âYou thought she was good one on one with you? She was barely even trying, Spence.â
This girl continues to amaze me.
âDude, Iâve never seen someone play with such skill but grace at the same time,â I say, and my eyes are still glued to the blonde as she makes her way to the other end of the ice to work with two on twos. She feeds the puck to the guy across from her, and theyâre working together to get past the two defenders. One of the boys ties up Jordan with his stick, but she battles back and manages to turn away from him, right as she receives the puck. However, she doesnât have a clear shot. She quickly sauces it back to #13, who one times the puck into the net.
âYâknow, people donât believe me when I say Jordan is better than me,â Jack says, and I look over to see him with a small smile on his face. Heâs watching Jordan, too, and I can tell he loves every second of it. âThey just assume because sheâs a girl she doesnât have the skills, or because she started late she had a disadvantage. But if anything that just drove her to improve as much as she can. Sheâs got so much attention from schools, at least four offers.â
âSheâs amazing.â I mutter, and I look over at the coach on the bench. Like the rest of us, heâs watching J, even if sheâs only standing there talking to Matt. She nods along to something he says and she falls back in line behind him. âDo you think sheâs got a shot with these boys?â
âOh, absolutely,â Jack says with no hesitation whatsoever. âIâm only worried about one thing. Sheâs got a weird playing style that most people arenât used to. So itâll take a bit for her line to adapt to that, and their coach may not want that.â
âHow could you not?â I ask. âBut he seems impressed, Jack. I think sheâs got it.â
âI hope so.â
Practice ends roughly two hours later. It lasted until nine much to my dismay. But I donât mind too much, I love watching Jordan play. Jack and I make our way down to the main floor and then we head back towards the locker rooms to wait for Jordan. We both lean against the far wall a few feet away from the locker room doors, and about twenty minutes later Jordan emerges from the room. She lets out a rather loud breath, almost as if a weight was lifted off her shoulders.
âYou okay there, J?â Jack asks, and Jordan keeps walking away from us.
She doesnât even bother turning around to face us. âI have nothing to say to you.â She grits out.
âCome on, Jordan,â I sigh, and that must set off a spark. She whips around, her two braids nearly swinging around and hitting her in the face.
âOr you.â She bites out, her voice laced with venom, and she points her finger right at me. âYou left me with Trevor. You couldnât have had Cole pick me up? Or Alex? Oh, but donât worry, Spence. I know you bad better things to do.â
âWhat the hell are you talking about, Jordan?â I ask, because in all reality I really didnât know what she was going on about. âNeither of us could pick you up because we were in the middle of a session. Trevor was in the middle of a cool down. So we asked him to go and pick you up. So sorry we didnât want you to take the bus.â
Jordanâs eyes narrow into slits as the door to the locker room opens. Matt walks out, and he looks between the three of us. However, his eyes then stay and linger on Jordan. I clench my fists at my side.
âEverything okay?â Matt asks, and I keep my eyes locked with Jordan. I hope she can tell how furious I am, but knowing her, she doesnât. She only thinks about herself.
âYeah, yeah, everythingâs fine,â She says, and after a few seconds of more eye contact she finally tears her gaze away from mine.
âCome on, let me walk you out. Itâs too dark for you to be out there alone.â
âThanks.â
I glare at Jordan as she walks away with Matt. I donât even know why Iâm so jealous and angry that Matt is the one walking her out to her car. I donât like her and I know that, thatâs literally breaking all rules of bro-code. I canât do that to Jack.
âYouâve got to be kidding me,â I mumble as Jordanâs figure gets smaller and smaller with each step she takes. She doesnât even look back once. âYou know what? Whatever. Letâs go.â
âHonestly starting to wish she stayed in New Hampshire. I forgot how much of a handful she could be,â Jack says, and we finally start to walk out of the building, taking the steps Matt and Jordan took only seconds before. âDonât get me wrong, I love J more than I love myself. She just needs an attitude check sometimes.â
âDo you think Trevor said something?â I blurt out before even thinking first. Trevor and I have never been good friends, and knowing him heâd want to get Jordan as far away from me as possible. We were just starting to become friends, too.
âHe had to of, honestly. He was the last one that saw her before she came here,â Jack sighs as we walk towards his car. I can see Jordan and Mattâs figures in the dark, and I try not to look over. But I finally do, and god do I wish I hadnât. Jordan gets into Mattâs car and he closes the door for her, and I wish I could slap the smirk thatâs probably on his face right off.
âDo you think she likes him?â My voice is quiet, quieter than I intended, and Jack stays silent for a few seconds before speaking.
âI donât know, Spence. J is weird when it comes to guys. She had this boyfriend back in sophâ you know what, not my story to tell. But long story short, itâs hard to tell with her. I wouldnât count on it though.â
I breathe out a sigh of relief. Thereâs no way I would ever want Jordan to be with an asshole like that.
All Roads Lead Home | NTDP â Chapter Seven
âMom! Whereâs my hockey bag?â I yell as I trample down the steps, almost falling down at least three times in the process, and I barrel into the kitchen where Mom is sitting. Sheâs startled by my sudden entrance, and she places her book down on the table.
âI donât know, honey. It should be in the garage or mudroom,â Mom says and I huff. âWhy do you need it all of a sudden?â
âBecause the schoolâs coach is letting me practice with them to see if I can be on the team and I need to be at the rink in fifteen minutes and I canât find my bag!â I ramble frantically before sprinting off to the garage. I spot the only bag that doesnât have any sort of logo on it, and I breathe out a sigh of relief. But that doesnât mean Iâm off the hook yet. I still have to get to the rink and get ready in now thirteen minutes.
Hurrying out of the garage, I grab my car keys from the countertop and say a quick goodbye to Mom before Iâm out of the door. I type the address to the USAHA into my phone before going well over the speed limit to get to practice on time. Luckily for me, I get there with barely five minutes to spare. I find the locker room, and Iâm met with a dozen or so hockey players in front of me. As soon as the door behind me slams shut, their attention is all on me.
âThatâs a girl.â The blonde standing almost directly in front of me says in disbelief. I have to stifle my laugh at the look on his face.
âI am indeed,â I say, suddenly regaining confidence and walking into the locker room. I can feel all of their eyes on me, and I pray I donât trip over something. âYour coach saidââ
âWe know what he said.â The one standing by the door, stick in hand, says. âWe werenât expecting a girl.â
I raise my eyebrows at him, my eyes flickering down to the âCâ on his chest. âIs that a problem?â My hand goes to my hip and the boy across from me smirks.
âI meanââ He begins, but he canât finish due to coach walking into the locker room.
âStop giving Jordan trouble, Matt. I get it, youâre intimidated,â I can tell Coach is kind of playing with Matt by the smirk playing on his lips, and this causes a few of the boys in the room to snicker. âOut to the ice. Leave her be.â
I huff as all the boys leave the room one by one. Once Iâm alone in the locker room I take it slow. I donât want to rush getting out there at all, but I know I canât take all the time in the world, even if my nerves are racing. After I get all my gear on, I start to head out towards the ice. The boys are skating laps, so as soon as I step onto the ice I follow in line with the rest of them.
âYouâve got an audience,â I hear from beside me, and I look over to see Matt. I can see a smirk on his lips and I canât help but roll my eyes at the blonde. He points up into the stands and I follow his finger, and then I see two boys sitting besides each other. Spencer and Jack.
âFuck.â I mumble as I follow the rest of the boys into a stretch.
âAre you related toââ
âNo.â I spit out, and Matt chuckles. Obviously he knows. We all look too alike to even try and deny it. The beauty marks, the piercing blue eyes, hell Jack and I even skate the same way. The only difference is that I have more dirty blonde hair than brunette. Itâs undeniable that Iâm a Hughes sibling.
Matt skates to the center of the circle that has formed, and I fill in at an empty spot on the outer ring. Most of the boys havenât even glanced my way, which in a sense is kind of good. They arenât letting me distract them, and that might benefit me when we really get things going. I hope it will, at least.
I follow along with the stretches, theyâre simple enough. And before I know it weâre going into full on drills and Iâm trying to impress the best I can. A part of me feels pathetic for doing that, Iâve never been one to purposefully show off in front of a lot of people, especially guys, but right now I have no choice whatsoever. Itâs all or nothing.
âGood practice today boys,â Coach says as he walks into the locker room. âYou too, Jordan.â He nods at me and I return the subtle gesture. âWhatâs your preferred number?â
Iâm caught off guard by his question, and I can feel the blush creeping up my neck with everyoneâs eyes on me. âUh, six,â I say, and then I can feel the smile make its way onto my face.
Coach nods. âPractices are Monday, Wednesday, Friday from seven until nine. Tuesdays and Thursdays are optional training days at the facility. Sometimes we share with the NTDP team, but itâs not an all the time thing. Iâm delighted to have you on our team, Hughes.â
âThank you,â I smile, and Coach gives a rundown of what practice is like. He tells us the overlook of what the rest of the week looks like: a game on Wednesday and a game on Friday. Home and Away.
âYour jersey will be ready by Wednesday, donât worry,â Coach says. âIâll see most of you tomorrow.â
Once he leaves, itâs the rest of us left in the room. Most of the boys begin talking amongst each other, but Iâm just stripping my gear off quickly and getting back into street clothes. I throw Quinnâs old NTDP hoodie on and a pair of leggings before Iâm lacing up my sneakers.
âDo you need a ride home?â I feel a hand on my arm, and sure enough itâs Matt.
âNo, I drove here, but thanks,â I say and shrug his arm off me. âIâll see you tomorrow, yeah?â
Matt nods. âYou got it, Hughes. Iâll introduce you to everyone tomorrow.â
I give Matt a smile before Iâm headed out of the locker room. Once Iâm in the hallway I let out a breath I didnât realize I was holding. I donât know what it was about those boys, or about Matt, but my heart was racing.
âYou okay there, J?â I hear the familiar voice of my twin brother, and it takes everything in me not to roll my eyes at him.
âI have nothing to say to you.â I say, not even turning around to face him as I make my way down the hallway.
âCome on, Jordan,â Spencer sighs. I whip around to face them.
âOr you.â I bite out, pointing my finger at Spence. Both of them look taken aback. âYou left me with Trevor. You couldnât have had Cole pick me up? Or Alex? Oh, but donât worry, Spence. I know you bad better things to do.â
Jack opens his mouth to talk, but Spencer beats him to it. âWhat the hell are you talking about, Jordan? Neither of us could pick you up because we were in the middle of a session. Trevor was in the middle of a cool down. So we asked him to go and pick you up. So sorry we didnât want you to take the bus.â
My eyes narrow at him and the door to the locker room opens. Matt walks out, and he looks between Spencer, Jack, and me. His eyes stay on me. âEverything okay?â Matt asks, and I purse my lips.
âYeah, yeah, everythingâs fine,â I say, my eyes not leaving Spencer. My blood is boiling at this point.
âCome on, let me walk you out. Itâs too dark for you to be out there alone,â His voice is soft as he speaks. Heâs different than when heâs out on the ice. When heâs on the ice, heâs aggressive and tough. But off the ice heâs the opposite, and he seems like a really sweet kid.
âThanks.â
Jack and Spencer both glare at me, and it isnât until Matt is by my side that I finally turn around to walk out.
âSeriously, is everything okay?â Matt asks, and he glances over at me as we walk out of the rink and into the cool December night. The cold bites against my cheeks and nips at my nose.
âYeah. Just a little bit of drama, thatâs all. But thanks, I appreciate the concern,â I give him a soft smile and he returns it. âSo, do you know Jack and Spencer?â
Matt purses his lips and he nods. âUh, yeah. Yeah I do. Iâm not great friends with either of them, but weâve all talked before. Theyâre nice.â
âYou donât have to sweet talk them to me, Matt. I know Jack can be an asshole at times. Spencer is on my bad side at the moment,â I sigh, crossing my arms over my chest as the two of us walk towards my car. I hear the door to the rink close, and I turn to see Spencer and Jack walking out.
âIâm not sweet talking,â Matt chuckles. âI just donât know them all that well. But uh, a few of the boys and I were gonna go grab something to eat if you wanted to join?â He almost sounds nervous, as if Iâd say no, but I feel the blood rush to my face.
âI donât see why not,â I try and bite back my smile, and even though itâs dark I can see the deepening of Mattâs cheeks. âAs long as we donât stay out too late.â
âWe wonât, I promise. Do you wanna ride with me or follow me over?â
I pop open the trunk to my car to throw my bag in. âWhatâs easier for you?â I lean against the tailgate and cross my arms, looking at Matt.
âSome company wouldnât be too bad.â
I smirk to myself and turn to close the trunk to my car. âLetâs go.â
Matt swings his lanyard around his finger and I follow him over to his car. I donât know what it is with hockey players and their Jeeps, but Matt has one as well. However it isnât as nice as Jackâs.
Matt opens up the passengerâs seat and throws his hockey bag in the back, then gesturing me to get in. I slide in and he closes the door before going over to the driverâs side.
âIâm just gonna text the boys. They wonât mind, I promise. Ethan has taken a liking to you and so has Luke, even if you did manage to score more against him than he lets up in games.â Matt says as he takes out his phone. He taps against the screen for a few seconds before he locks it. âWeâre just gonna go to a diner down the street. Itâs fast, so we shouldnât be out past ten. Weâre all normally starving after practice.â
âOh trust me, I know,â I giggle. âI grew up with three hockey player brothers. We were pretty much raised on hot chocolate and dozens of pizzas.â
âThatâs the best way to grow up,â Matt sends me a smile as he looks over his shoulder to back out of the parking spot. âHow long have you played?â
I shrug. âI was seven-eightish. I was a dancer before I was into sports. I wanted to be the black sheep of the family for a while, but then I discovered I actually really loved hockey. It was in my blood, Iâve pretty much got ice running in my veins. What about you? Do you have any desire to play college hockey?â
Matt nods as he takes a right turn. I suddenly start to vaguely remember this being the route Spencer and I took to the diner the other day, and I smile, even though Iâm rather annoyed at Spence. âYeah, I actually signed with University of Michigan a few weeks back. What about you? Youâve definitely got offers.â
âI would say youâd be my new favorite Wolverine, but thatâd be insulting to Quinn and Josh. But yeah, Iâve got a few offers on my hands. Boston College, Boston University, University of Wisconsin, University of New Hampshire, and Harvard.â I recite, as itâs pretty much engraved in the back of my mind. âMy parents want me to make a decision like, now, but I canât do that. Thereâs too much going on in my family at the moment to even think about myself for two seconds.â
âWhy do none of those surprise me?â Matt laugh quietly to himself. âYouâre pretty and smart.â
âAnd good at hockey!â I chime in, a smile on me face.
âAnd good at hockey,â Matt confirms, a cute boyish grin on his face. âI wanna get to know you better.â
Those are the words of disaster right there. Those are the seven words that can make or break a friendship. âMatt,â I sigh, awkwardly fumbling with the few bracelets lining my wrists. âGrowing up, guys have only dated me to get close to my brothers, or have only wanted to be friends with me to get close to them. Same went with girls, they only wanted to date my brothers. Not saying I donât trust you, but I just met you. I donât know what your intentions are.â
Out of my peripheral vision, I see Matt nod. âI get that, Jordan. I really do. But I promise, Iâm not gonna use you at all. If I wanted to get close to Jack I would have already, weâre always training together. We just donât click well, thatâs all.â
âThanks, Matt,â I smile softly at him and he looks over to catch my eyes. We stare at each other for a few seconds before Matt suddenly snaps out of it, as the red light weâre stopped at turns to green.
Matt pulls into the parking lot of the diner thatâs nearly empty besides a few cars littering the parking lot. The two of us get out of his car and then make our way inside, where I recognize a few of the boys on the team sitting at a booth.
âHey guys,â One of the boys calls out gaining the attention of the rest of them. âCongrats on making the team, Jordan.â
âThanks,â I smile, and Matt puts his hand on my lower back to walk me towards the table. I wouldâve pushed it off, but Iâm too exhausted and hungry.
âJordan, thatâs Ethan,â Matt gestures to the boy that just spoke. âLuke, Tyler, Rhys, Josh, and Mason.â Matt points to each of the boys as he says their names and I nod along.
âNice to meet you all. Sorry I didnât get your names before I left,â I say.
âDonât worry about it,â Mason says. âBut we ordered you guys milkshakes. Hope thatâs okay with you.â Mason looks over at me and I nod.
âYeah, thatâs fine, thanks.â
I end up clicking with all the boys almost instantly, which Iâm extremely grateful for. For the most part theyâre pretty nice too. I know this isnât all of them, but Iâve gotta start getting to know them somehow. And I know itâll take a bit for some of them to warm up to me. I donât blame them. Some girl just waltzing in and taking a spot on their team probably isnât the most reassuring.
âWe all usually end up hanging out at my place after practice on Fridays. I donât know how your brother or boyfriend would feel about that, though,â Luke says from across from me, and I can see the subtle smirk playing on his lips.
âBoyfriend?â I question. âSpencer is not my boyfriend.â I giggle at even saying it. I just met the kid.
âI donât know, he seemed a little upset earlier when you were arguing,â Matt nudges me and I roll my eyes.
âWeâre not dating. I just met him. Plus heâs away all the time, I canât do that. I need someone thatâs gonna be here all the time.â
âOkaaay,â Matt sings, and I roll my eyes again, but this time with a smile on my face.
We all talk and get to know one another, and itâs finally like Iâm a part of a real team. At Brewster I was forced to be with those girls all the time, and everyone knows girls are the pettiest things ever. They were always starting some sort of drama, and I couldnât get away from any of them because we lived there. But these boys are different, theyâre nice and theyâre down to earth. Theyâre real, and Iâve needed something real for a long time.

All Roads Lead Home | NTDP Boys â Chapter Six
Majority of the day flows by slowly. Spence picks me up so we can go to English together, and before I know it Iâm walking with him down to the cafeteria.
âLet me warn you,â Spencer starts, and he glances over at me as he speaks. âThe boys get rowdy at lunch. Theyâre really annoying, honestly, I donât understand how we donât get in trouble.â
âItâs all good. The boys are Brewster were the exact same,â I say. Spence and I walk towards a table where a few girls are sat, along with Trevor, Cole, Alex, Jack, Johnny, and Case.
âJordan!â Cole smiles and he wraps his arm around the girl next to him. âAbby, this is Jordan, Jackâs sister. J, this is my girlfriend Abby.â
I sit down next to Spence at the two open seats, and I greet Abby with a smile. âItâs nice to meet you.â
âRight back at you,â the pretty blonde says.
Alex then introduces me to his girlfriend, Francesca, and after that I look at Jack.
âSo, whereâs this ever so famous âChelseaâ I have yet to meet? Iâm starting to think she doesnât actually exist.â I smile innocently, but my brother just rolls his eyes as he takes a sip from his water.
âShe exists!â He exclaims, completely exasperated. âSheâll be here soon, donât worry.â
I nod and conversations flow as normal. âOh, by the way, we leave at noon,â Spencer says and I give him a weird look. âWell, not we. We leave for training at noon, so after this weâre done.â
âWell arenât you a lucky duck?â I give Spencer a teasing smile and he smiles back at me. âSo, whatâs the sitch with the hockey team here?â I ask, gaining the attention of a few of the boys sitting with me.
âWe only have a boys team,â Trevor says shaking his head slightly, and I have to resist the urge of rolling my eyes. But that doesnât stop Cole from doing so.
âZegras, you know thatâs a lie,â Cole glares at Trevor, and a part of me feels triumphant. âTechnically, yes, itâs a boys team. Thatâs only because no girls really go out for the hockey team. They just like to date the players on it.â
Spencer nudges me. âIâm sure you could talk to the coach or one of us could for you. Pull some strings, you know?â
âSpencer Knight I do not need you to âpull stringsâ for me,â I raise my eyebrows at the blonde thatâs sitting next to me, who immediately raises his hands in defense.
âThat is not what I meant, I swear,â He starts. âItâs just that the season has already started, so itâs unlikely heâll let you join. I was just saying that one of us could put in a good word. Say that he isnât wasting his time.â
I purse my lips and nod. I appreciate the offer, honestly. But I would much rather do it myself, prove that I can face their coach and bring it up myself.
âI like you,â Francesca giggles from across the table. I canât help but smile, because Alex and Cole both mean the absolute world to me, and their girlfriends liking me is a huge win in that department.
âI told you you would!â Alex exclaims and glances over at me, giving me one of those cute Alex smiles. âItâs hard to hate any of the Hughesâ, trust me.â
âAlex, I honestly wouldnât put it past her if she didnât like me. Iâd be a little on edge if my boyfriend was really close with my teammates sister, so props to you Francesca, not everyone can do that.â
Fran laughs once more. âJ, donât worry about it. You were in the picture before I was, so I wouldnât ruin a friendship over that. Besides, Alex said you had a boyfriend.â
I freeze at the mention of Brady. Itâs been months, but the mention of him or his name makes me freeze and the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I glance over at Jack whoâs already giving me a look.
I fake a cough as if thatâll get rid of any of the awkwardness. âEx-boyfriend,â I force out a chuckle. âThatâs been done for a few months now.â
âI thought you didnât date at Brewster? You didnât have time for it?â Spencer asks and I shrug, popping off the cap to my water bottle and taking a sip.
âAfter Brady, I didnât. Wasnât worth it, yâknow? Just kind of needed time to myself.â I say simply and I see Spencer nod subtly out of the corner of my eye.
Before anyone can say anything else, I see a smiling blonde walk up behind Jack and sit down in the open seat next to him.
âIs this Chelsea?â I ask, and the girl looks over at me.
âYeah. And you are?â I know she doesnât mean for it to come out rude, but it came out a little harsh. I canât help but raise an eyebrow.
âChels, thatâs Jordan, my little sister.â Jack says, and Chelseaâs eyebrows furrow and she looks over at Jack.
âWhy didnât you tell me you had a sister?â She asks I knew she wouldnât understand why. No one ever understands why because itâs a stupid reason. But Jack and I decided it together.
Jack looks over at me and itâs almost as if heâs pleading for me to save this awkward conversation in front of all his friends. âItâs a really long story, Chelsea. Save it for a rainy day, okay?â
She stares at me for a few more seconds before turning to Jack. I sigh and lean back in my seat, but I feel a foot kick me from diagonally across. I look up, and sure enough itâs Trevor.
âYouâre fine,â he mouths, and I glance over towards the love birds to make sure they arenât watching or listening.
âIs she always like that?â I ask in a hushed voice and Trevor purses his lips, and he thinks momentarily.
âNot really. She just isnât great around new people, and I mean she didnât know you existed until two minutes ago. That would come as a shock to anyone. Sheâll warm up to you, donât worry,â Trevor says and gives me a small but sincere smile. And from Trevor? Thatâs surprising.
âOkay,â I sigh, and I grab my phone from my pocket to check the time. 11:49. The boys would be leaving soon. âSo whatâs the situation with you guys leaving at noon?â
âWe all have our core classes in the morning, so we get to leave at noon to go train and practice at the rink. Itâs convenient for us, and a lot easier so we arenât missing any classes that count against us,â Trevor explains and I nod.
âI wish they had that at Brewster, but I mean everything was on campus for us. I only missed classes when we had a really far game.â
âYeah, not the case with us,â Trevor chuckles, and then the bell rings.
âIâll see you at two, J,â Jack says and grabs his bookbag from the floor. âIâll drive by and pick you up or something. I dunno, Iâll figure it out.â
âOkay, have fun and please no injuries,â I say to Jack, and then I turn to Spencer. âThat includes you, Knight.â
âWouldnât wanna disappoint you, Hughes.â
I give Spencer one final smile before we all head our separate ways. Iâm headed to gym class, and a part of me is debating ditching and not going at all. But I know thatâll come back and bite me in the ass later.
âJordan!â I hear, and I quickly whip around to see Abby walking quickly towards me. âWhere are you headed?â
âGym,â I grimace, and her eyes light up. âYou too?â
âYeah. Iâll introduce you to some of my friends in there if you want,â She says and I nod.
âPlease,â I laugh. âI need girl friends. Thereâs no way I can survive the rest of the year with just those boys.â
Abby takes a turn down a hallway, and Iâm right behind her. Iâm glad sheâs here, or Iâd be absolutely lost. âWell, now youâve got me, Fran, and Chels when sheâs come around. And the other girls, but Iâm not sure when youâll meet them. Iâll make sure itâs soon though, donât worry.â
âThanks so much, Abby,â I smile gratefully at her and she returns the smile instantly.
âOf course. I canât leave you hanging, no girl left behind,â She says and we walk right into the open gym class where kids are standing around, and I assume theyâre waiting for class to start. âBut if you donât mind me asking, what is the story of why Jack decided to not tell anyone besides Cole and Alex about you?â
The two of us walk to a more less populated area of the gym. I know I normally wouldnât tell anyone this story right away, but I feel like I can trust her. Sheâs sweet.
âSo, obviously Jack is a pretty big deal,â I start out on a painfully obvious note. âGrowing up, I was always in his shadow, no matter what it was. I got offered a scholarship to play hockey at a school where the lake house is, so I took it. Wolfeboro was already a home to me. When I was there I wasnât being compared to Jack because only a few people knew he was my brother. And those were people we had been friends with for forever. There, I was just Jordan Hughes, not Jack Hughesâ little sister. I wanted to live my life without having to live up to someoneâs expectations of me, so Jack and I decided together that we just werenât going to tell anyone since there wasnât really a point. I was barely in Michigan anyway and I certainly wasnât expecting to come home. If this was planned, Iâm sure Jack wouldâve given everyone a bit of a heads up.â
Abby looks a little taken aback. I knew it was a lot to take in, and itâs a lot to even have to tell anyone. âWow,â She mumbles. âIâm so sorry. Obviously I have no clue how that feels, but I can imagine itâs a pretty shitty feeling.â
I chuckle to myself. âYeah, yeah it is. But Iâm over it. Secrets out, scream it from the rooftops. Jordan Hughes is Jack Hughes little sister.â
âI think weâd get in trouble if we went to the roof,â Abby jokes, and in walks a few teachers that are all sporty looking. âBy the way, that dude,â She points to one looking down at a clipboard. âIs the hockey team coach. So if you wanna go talk to him about the team, nowâs your chance.â
âGot it. Iâll be back, wish me luck!â
âYou donât need it, trust me.â
I smile and then start towards the guy that has to be in his mid thirties. He looks approachable, and kinda nice, but a little intimidating at the same time.
âExcuse me?â I say, and he looks up from writing something down on the clipboard in front of him. âUm, Iâm Jordan Hughes. Iâm new. My friend told me you were the hockey coach, and I was wondering if there was any way I would be able to join the team? I know itâs a little late in the season, but there arenât any teams around here that interest me.â
I bite the inside of my cheek, hoping that this guy would actually give me a shot. He lets out a sigh, and I nearly turn away in defeat. âItâs a tough call, Jordan. Iâve got boys that have been playing together for years, I canât mess that chemistry up,â He says, and he pauses to think for a second. âI donât want to say no. With the last name of Hughes, and the undeniable resemblance you have to all three of those boys, I know youâve got something to offer me.â
âI promise, just give me a shot,â I feel almost pathetic begging like that, but itâs been at least two weeks since Iâve played a game, let alone been out on the ice.
âHow about this. Weâve got practice tonight. You can swing by and run through practice with us. If the boys arenât playing as well as they normally do, Iâm afraid I canât have you join. But if thereâs something special there that sets off a spark, then Iâm sure weâve got room on the roster and the bench for you.â He gives me a little smile and I grin in return. âCoach Harris, by the way. Itâs nice to meet the fourth Hughes, Luke has mentioned you once or twice to me.â
âPleasure to meet you. I promise I wonât let you down.â
âIâll see you tonight, then? We practice at the USA Hockey Arena when thereâs nothing going on. Tonight is at seven until nine. I hope to see you there, Hughes,â Harris nods at me and I smile.
âDonât worry, you will.â
I walk back to Abby with a pep in my step and a shit eating grin on my face. Words canât even sum up how excited I am.
âWell that smile is certainly a tell all,â Abby says and I nod.
âHe offered to let me practice with the team tonight and weâll go from there,â I say and Abby squeals with excitement. I can really see myself getting close with her, which Iâm sure Cole would love.
Thankfully, two oâclock rolls by sooner than I anticipated and Iâm rushing out to the main locker banks along with hundreds of other kids. I grab my phone to check for a text from Jack, and sure enough there is one from him, but it isnât what Iâm expecting at all.
Jack: hey, iâm in the middle of something so i canât pick you up. trevor will be there, my car. go to the semi circle out by the guidance office
I curse under my breath. Sure, Trevor was nice earlier, but that doesnât mean he will be now.
I walk out to where Jack told me to go, and sure enough I see Jackâs black Jeep with Trevor in the front seat. Heâs got black ray-bans covering his eyes and a hand ruffling through his hair. I walk up to the car and tap on the window so he can unlock it.
âGuess what!â I exclaim as soon as I slide into the passengerâs seat. âThe hockey team coach is letting me practice with them tonight, so then weâll see if Iâm alright to joinââ
âYour voice gives me a headache.â Trevor cuts me off and I glare at him. He just shrugs and turns the radio up. I huff and reach for the aux cord, pressing a few buttons on the stereo before Anson Seabra starts playing through the speakers. âAnd youâve got a trashy taste in music.â
âDo you ever say anything nice?â I snap, turning to look at him. âYou couldâve said no to picking me up, I would much rather have had Spencer pick me up than you. Scratch that, I would rather walk home than ride with you.â
âDamn,â Trevor mumbles as he pulls out of school campus. âTrust me though, sweetheart. I asked Spencer if he wanted to. He didnât want to. He had, and I quote, âbetter things to do.ââ
I shake my head and cross my arms over my chest. I decide to stay quiet or the rest of the ride back home, because mom always taught me not to say anything if I didnât have anything nice to say at all.
Petterssonâs three childhood best friends got deported back to Armenia when he was about thirteen. This year they finally got their Swedish citizenships. Peteyâs brother, Emil, and his brotherâs girlfriend, Fanny, surprised him by bringing his friends to Slovakia to surprise him. This is Petey seeing his friends after the Sweden-Finland game ft. the softest fucking hugs ever.

too many men penalties must be served by one of the guys who was too many

10 minutes of 3-on-3 overtime
or, alternatively: 5 minutes of 3-on-3, then 3 minutes of 2-on-2, 1 minute of 1-on-1, and then the goalies fire pucks at each other
goalies can do whatever tf they want
everyone has to make both of their benches big enough for all the players; like wtf why are some of you banishing the backup goalie to the zamboni tunnel of shame
arenas must configure themselves so that thereâs actually a tunnel behind the bench that goes back to the locker room, the whole coming in through the zamboni tunnel is inefficient especially for injury emergencies
if an injured player will not return to the game, a healthy scratch can replace him if he can race down from the press box and get completely ready and onto the bench before the end of the period
multiple pride nights and it gets just as much hype as stupid st. patrickâs day or military nights

every team is required to send some of their players into a haunted house and record them every year
every team has to make one of those videos where the players give their teammates superlatives
the head coaches are allowed to get in a fight - one coach must toss a rainbow challenge flag onto the ice, and the other coach will toss out a green flag to accept, and a red flag to decline; then they rush out to center ice and fistfight
an alternate broadcast to every game in which players are micâd up: an r-rated broadcast with all the obscenities
