Thank you for being cool brosefs. The support I’ve received through tumblr has been pretty amazing. I appreciate everyone, and I’m sorry if I’ve ever let you down. Tumblr’s just not looking to be a safe space or viable platform with it’s recent changes, so I must leave it. But that’s okay, these things happen.

It feels a bit strange to have some kind of emotional goodbye; we’re not going to stop seeing each other, after all… I’m still going to be on the internet. But this is a change, and change is scary. At least, I’m a bit scared.

Tumblr’s been a great website for sharing my art, and I think it’s going to be a bit tougher to maintain my relevance now. But the best thing we can do is move on.

I had just set up my new plans for 2019, like revamping my Patreon, but having to leave tumblr really messed with my plans. So I might be a bit slow in the coming weeks; so expect these platforms to gain activity as we move into 2019.

I really enjoyed my time on Tumblr and with all of you.  I met some really fantastic fans and artists.  However, on the 17th Tumblr is enacting a new policy I strongly disagree with, and I’ve decided to leave the platform.  This will be my last post, I plan to log out and not return.  I won’t be answering any of the messaging systems here.  If you’d like to continue following me online, here is where you can find me:

This will be my main base of operations due to how similarly it functions as a social media platform.  It’s where I will post my sketches and complete pieces, talk about things I’m watching/reading, and interact with other people I know.

I like this platform because it allows for posting /spicy/ nsfw, but also for multiple-picture sets which is frequently useful for sequential posts.  The only downside is having to search relevant tags, and some mild censorship of genitalia.

I’m not gonna lie, I kind of really hate the interface for Newgrounds currently.  Supposedly it’s going to change!  The content categorizing is also a bit vague (What exactly makes something “a little” adult vs. “very” adult? Where is that line drawn?), but I will do my best with it!

Now, the alarming aspect of this story is that the very same technology is probably what tumblr is using to identify porn. Now, if it can’t tell that an empty field is not, in fact, full of sheep, what hope do we have that it can’t tell an empty room isn’t full of writing human forms engaged in passionate coitus?

Also, this kind of system is super vulnerable to counter-neural strategies. I bet you before the end of the month someone hooks up their own open source one layer bicategory neural network which puts an imperceptible (to humans) layer of patterned static over arbitrary images, and trains it by having it bot-post static-ed images to Tumblr and reinforcing based on whether the images are labeled nsfw or sfw. Seriously, within a month someone will have an input-output machine which can turn any image ‘sfw’ in Tumblr’s eyes.
