walking mistake

“I can like a surprise if I’m in the mood for one,” he let her know, humming as he contemplated how many he should have. He wanted to feel like he was going to die, but he couldn’t actually do it. Because of Roman. “How about we start off with four and then go from there?”

* “I’m sure you’ve worked out by now, Johnson, that I have impeccable timing for the wrong time.” She warned with a glint of a joking nature behind her chocolate eyes. “Four then.” She agreed. She could have pushed her luck and gone for five but it was player’s choice so she wouldn’t argue. She knocked back the remainder of her second glass of whiskey and turned back to the bartender to order the next drinks for the pair.

 “Of course I’ll buy you a drink. Even though I feel like that’s not enough. How about just a night of drinks on me?” he suggested, slightly aware that she might be joking but still feeling like it was a fair offer to give for her kindness.

* Usually when a guy offered to buy her drinks she wouldn’t think twice about taking advantage of the freebie but seeing Theo as a ‘nice guy’ made her feel a little guilty taking advantage of him. “Let’s have one drink and go from there.” She suggested. One drink wasn’t too much of an advantage, right?

Maddie: Thanks, yes sure let me know. If you need anything also, just ask

Maddie: Looks like a business, not idea what they do though. The people that go in and out seem like they know more than the first three numbers of pi, if you know what I mean 😂

Ruby: Smartasses ok

Ruby: Yeah I can look in to that. Give me a few days.

Maddie: Just anything you can find out about them, really. If you can.

Ruby: It isn't a question of if

Maddie: Depends on what you find. You know that new building in town? Murchadha?

“Oh.” She frowned slightly but soon began to smile. “I’m sorry if I was staring, it’s just annoying, isn’t it? Not being able to place a face. But maybe you just look like someone I’ve met once.” Mila supposed. She got the impression the girl seemed a little uncomfortable with the idea, which was confusing but she wouldn’t press the matter. “Fancy a drink?” She shrugged. “I’m Mila, by the way.”

* “I get told I look like Harley Quinn if that helps.” She offered a red herring away from where she felt this was going. A shrug of her shoulders for effect. “Sure. A jack and coke please. I’m Ruby.” She introduced herself but almost cursed herself for not giving a fake name. 

Judging from their brief interaction, he imagined she operated a lot of assumption rather than actual evidence or experience. Not that he was judging, just examining. “You seem like a people watcher.” Again, not meant to be an insult but naturally he wondered what she had thought of him. “What assumptions have you been making about me, huh?”

* Ruby looked him up and down. “You don’t like drama. You’d rather not have to deal with petty shit and just want an easy life. Sometimes you get angry and that comes out in ways you don’t want it to.” She responded. 

Maddie: Hey Ruby, it's Maddie. Met when you set fire to that thing, remember? I have a job for you, if you're interested?

“i mean, we work hard, but there’s not a lot of us at the rescue centre. as much as i’d love to give every dog we have equal and neverending attention, i just can’t. I’m out on rescues in the van, and i’m still trying to be home as much as possible with my wife and parker. i guess i just think that the more people who come in and give these dogs the love and attention they deserve, the more likely we are to be able to find them good homes.” sam said with a shrug of his shoulders. the job was important him, apart from the couple of months he spent a bus boy all those years ago, he’d never had a real job. 

* Ruby took in the information to later consider but with her still getting her freelance business off the ground as well as her usual bad habits, it was more finding the time (as selfish as it was). “I’ll keep it mind.” She repeated and genuinely meant what she said. 

“For some reason, I’m bettin’ that you can’t,” he joked, but it was still kind of true. Every time he opened up, it went to crap. He was half expecting that it would go to crap eventually with Skye, too. “Tequila. Gold tequila,” Levi clarified. “How many?” he asked her, calling over the bartender to be able to give him their order.

* “Then you’d be surprised.” She returned. A smile spread fully on her features at the prospect of tequila. It was always a good solid choice in her books. “As many as you think you can handle.” She challenged because she had a feeling he couldn’t refuse a challenge.
