I just stumbled upon this looking for the pKa to pH conversion scale, so I don;t really have any ways of testing it to see how well it works, but it seems useful enough.

According to the instructions, you enter the chemical formula of the molecule, the Ka/Kb/pKa/pKb, concentration, and/or volume, and it will give you the pH or pOH.

It's a basic concentration convertor; you enter three of the following, and it gives you the fourth:

Solute density

Solute % by weight

Solution density

Molarity

It also has the molar mass for a few common compounds in a drop-down.

This is the database we've all been looking for! Not a simulator, but an actual database! And it's searchable!!!

You can search by name, molecular formula, # of different atoms, molecular weight, and even by the NMR peaks themselves (with variance allowances too)!

It has all kinds of NMR graphs, including: 1H, 13C, IR, MS, ESR, and Raman.

Why this site isn't the top result when searching for NMR graphs is beyond me! Why do I seem so excited? Because I finally found a database with the 13C NMR graphs! My life is easier now that I don't have to try and create them by hand using a table with a 20+ ppm range for the peaks!

But seriously, it's an awesome resource, and if there's one thing you should gain as a helpful resource from any Tumblelog, this should be it.

It would also be really cool if you passed this on to your friends taking chemistry. It will really make their lives easier.

If your compound isn't on the other site's list, this program will simulate the NMR graph of a molecule you draw. If you have the name, but not the chemical structure, use the MarvinSketch link I posted earlier to get the structure from the name. There might be an option to create the graph from the compound name, but the interface is really hard to understand and/or read.

A highly feature-restricted version of this program (MarvinSketch) is used in my online homework, and even that locked-down version was helpful for problems where only the formula was given (rather than write each molecule out and hope you did it right). When I searched for an online version I found this version with all of its wonderful additional features!

If you draw the molecule, it can give you the IUPAC name for it (use it to search Wikipedia or Google for the common name, if you need it), and vise-versa. It won't let you create a molecule that violates basic bonding rules (unless you muck around with the advanced features/settings), so it works as a basic self-check of sorts, and makes drawing the structures easier.

I don't know how to use a bunch of the features that it offers (because I don't think I'll need them, and thus haven't looked for any instructions on how to use them), especially reactions, but the manufacturer and the page linked above describe it as being "...an advanced, Java based chemical editor for drawing chemical structures, queries and reactions.", so I'm assuming the functionality is there.

This site has a chart with a ton of different molecules and functional groups, organized by their chemical shift (δ), or by name, and includes the different conformations (cis, trans).

This is an odd site I bumped into, but it has an sugar solubility calculator. It will calculate the solubility % of sugar at a given temp.

You have to go to the tiny search bar at the top of the page, type in your chemical name, and then select 'MSDS' from the tiny drop-down menu.

This blog is supposed to be about all of the helpful websites I run across while researching anything science related. Unfortunately, I'm not running across any wort posting.

Consequently, this blog is empty. Which is why I'm looking for members who will be able to contribute and grow this Tumblelog.
